John O. Parks Sr.
John Owens Parks Sr., 74, of Charlottesville died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Born Oct. 22, 1928, in Elkins, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Wesley Parks and Dorothy Mellott Parks, his beloved mother.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Florence G. Hayden.
He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed attending the Mt. View Baptist Church with his wife. He was a member of Elks BPOE No. 389 of Charlottesville and the American Legion of Elkins, W.Va.
Mr. Parks was a gifted dental technician and owner of Charlottesville Dental Lab. Inc.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Beatrice W. Parks; two sons John O. Parks Jr. and his wife, Becky, and Mark S Parks and his wife, Lisa; three precious grandchildren, Heather, Spencer and Mitchell; his loving sisters, Alice Conner-Knotts and her husband, Dr. Richard Knotts, of Elkins, W.Va., and Dorothy J. Mills and her special friend, Joe Chonko, of Dunedin, Fla.; a special nephew, Milton Wingfield; many loving nieces and nephews; and his best friend "Hershey".
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Hill & Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville.
A private memorial service will be held.
The family wishes to thank those who lovingly cared for him during his illness, especially his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Buck and Aggie Wingfield, Luby and Eunice Williams, and James and Nancy Williams, and many special friends, neighbors, and family members.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Larry Goss, the dedicated and compassionate nursing staff of the Martha Jefferson Hospital's 7th floor, and to the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont.

Elizabeth S. Pilkey
Elizabeth Street Pilkey, 96, of Charlottesville, died Thursday Nov. 7, 2002, after a lingering illness.
She was born in 1906, in Utica, N.Y., the daughter of Eloise Wicks Street and Irving Whithall Street III.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orrin H. Pilkey Sr., and her sister, Sibyl Street Ramsey.
She is survived by two sons, Walter D. Pilkey, Morse Professor of Engineering at UVa, and Orrin H. Pilkey, James B. Duke Professor of Marine Geology at Duke University in Durham, N.C., and their wives; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Barnard College in 1928, she was married
in New York City and lived there for several years before moving to Chicago, then to Richland, Wash.
Besides raising a family, she did volunteer work in hospitals, schools, and libraries. She was especially dedicated in her efforts for The League of Women Voters. She did remarkable needlepoint projects for her family and friends.
Clinton Eutuah Price
Clinton Eutuah Price, 77, of Charlottesville, died Wednesday Nov. 6, 2002 in Middleburg, N.C.
Born Jan. 7, 1925, in Scottsville, he was the son of the late Frank Beverly and Rosa Taylor Price.
He is survived by his wife Betty Price; two daughters, Donna Holbrook of Cushing, Texas, and Elaine Nuckols of Palmyra; two sons, Phillip E. Price of Scottsville, and Terry S. Price of Middleburg, N.C; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Mr. Price was a World War II and Korean Conflict veteran in the U.S. Air Force, and a retired maintenance mechanic with Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at noon Monday in Holly Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Frank Schumaker will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Teague Funeral Home.

Armenio J. Ritacco
Armenio J. "Al" Ritacco, 87, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in a health care facility.
Born Aug. 8, 1915, in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose Sposato Ritacco, and was the husband of the late Mary Jane Ritacco.
Mr. Ritacco was a retired civil service employee having worked 30 years at Fort Sloucunin in New Rochelle, N.Y., and was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Ritacco was also a member of the Elk's Lodge.
He is survived by his two daughters, Janis Travers and her husband, John, of Charlottesville, and Marilyn Beladino and her husband, Richard, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; three grandchildren, Tara Travers of Richmond, Lisa Beladino of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Richard Beladino II and his wife, Shana, of New Canaan, Conn.; three great-grandchildren, Richard Beladino III, Parker Beladino, and Kendall Beladino; his nieces; Linda Ritacco of N.Y., and Diane O'Connor of N.Y.; and a nephew, Mark Coviello of N.J.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Teague Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Lanham officiating. Interment
will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Alzheimer's Unit at Our Lady of Peace for the wonderful care provided to Mr. Ritacco for the past four years.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Charlottesville Alzheimer's Association, 490 Westfield Rd., Charlottesville, Va. 22901.

Opal Leake Smith
Opal Leake Smith, 82, of Charlottesville died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in a local hospital. Born Aug. 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John Churchill and Annie Arritt Leake.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Norford Smith; two sisters, Lettie L. Leizear and Mary L. Smith; one brother, James C. Leake; and one granddaughter, Sharon A. Oesterheld.
She is survived by her two daughters, Bertie Smith Oesterheld and her husband, Lucky, of Barboursville, and Shirley Smith Breneman of Heathsville; two sisters, Nellie L. Moubry of Charlottesville, and Katherine L. Cline of Las Vegas; two brothers, Edwin L. Leake of Barboursville, and Ray L. Leake of Ruckersville; three grandchildren, Sheryl O. Haney, Susan G. Varnier, and Julie G. Kelvin; one step-grandson, David Breneman; five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Haney, Kayla and Allison Kelvin, and Madison Varnier.
Opal was a longtime member of Maple Grove Christian Church and retired from Sperry Marine.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Teague Chapel, with Mr. Roger Browning officiating. Interment
will follow in Maple Grove Christian Church cemetery.

Mollie D. Stuback
Mollie D. Stuback, Nee Newmark, 94, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002.
She was born Dec. 25, 1907, in Newark, N.J.
After a lifetime as a restaurateur, running Lomar Restaurant, New York City, with her late husband, Harry Wenger, she retired to Cresthaven Villas, West Palm Beach, Fla., with her second husband, Charles Stuback, in 1972, where she served for 28 years as a recording secretary of Temple Beth Sholom.
She leaves Avra and Edward Schwab, of Stanardsville, and Nancy and Richard Satin, of Swampscott, Mass.; grandchildren, Andrew Schwab, Hilary Shapiro, Randi Marshall, Michelle Bergstein, and Adam Satin; nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved companion, Harold Greenfield.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Royal Palms Memorial Gardens.
Ida Marie Thomas
Ida Marie Thomas, 98, of Mechanicsville, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Nov. 8, 2002.
She was known to many as "Grandma".
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Rodman Thomas; her daughters, Edith Novak and Willie Pemberton; and her great-granddaughter, Sara Bruehl.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Stephen Novak, Margaret Lamb, Chris Bruehl, Russell Hockett and his wife, Brenda, Kathy Childress and her husband, Bert, and Roxanne Ward; ten great-grandchildren; nine Great-great-grandchildren; and her loving dog, Capp.
She was a longtime member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. today.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Preddy's Creek Baptist Church, Stony Point. Interment
will be in the church cemetery.

Martha H. Clark
Martha Henrietta Via Clark, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002.
She was born June 27, 1915, in Schuyler, where she had lived all her life. She was the daughter of the late Roy L. and Ethel Via.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Clark Sr.; two sons, Percy F. Clark, and Albert A. Clark; a brother Roy L. Via Jr.; and a sister, Halley V. Gallo.
Mrs. Clark attended Schuyler School and was employed by Uniroyal Tire Company, Scottsville, for many years. She was a member of Schuyler Baptist Church.
She was a special, loving, and supportive mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly, and was their rock in tough times. She leaves a big hole in the hearts of all who loved and admired her strength and sense of humor.
She is survived by her two sons, James E. Clark Jr. and his wife Gladys, of Charlottesville, and Ronald M. Clark and his wife, Mary, of Schuyler; her daughter, Barbara C. Marks, of Charlottesville; two daughters-in-law, Peggy Clark, and Eula N. Clark, both of Schuyler; one sister-in-law, Nell Via, of Piney River; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Penny Knisley, of Rockville, Md., and Diane Duncan, of Fairfax.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, with the Rev. Thomas B. Fowler officiating. Interment

Elizabeth C. Crawford
Elizabeth Conway Crawford, 53, departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 in Waynesboro.
She was born January 5, 1949, in Albemarle County to the late Bowen Conway and Alpha Omega Green Conway.
She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, George Forest Green Sr. and Anita Monroe Green.
Elizabeth was a loving devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greenwood. She attended school in Albemarle County and graduated from Jackson P. Burley High School in 1967.
She was employed at the University of Virginia Medical Center and retired as an Executive Secretary of U.Va. Pulmonary Division.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Tonya Lynn Washington, of Waynesboro; a son, James Edward Washington Jr., of Charlottesville; five grandchildren, Tiffany Martin, of Roanoke, Chanise Washington, Ericka Washington, Clyde Thompson, and Antione Payne, all of Waynesboro; three brothers, Robert Conway, Frank Jones, and Wayne Jones, all of Charlottesville; two devoted cousins, Theresa Miller, of Pensacola, Fla., and Marshall Carr, of San Bernardino, Calif.; a devoted aunt, Frances Steppe, of Greenwood; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Greenwood, with the Rev. Kathleen Burnett officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday evening in the chapel of the J. F. Bell Funeral Home.
