Shirley Jean Lam
Shirley Jean Lam, 62, of Gordonsville, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born August 10, 1940, in Madison, she was the daughter of the late William E. Willis Sr. and Ruby Davis Willis Oddenino.
Mrs. Lam was a former employee of Gordonsville Liberty Fabrics, and was a member of Rose Park United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Lam, of Gordonsville; a daughter, Doris Marie Zeller, or Blue Ridge Shores, Louisa; two sons, Charles William Berry, and Wayne Edward Berry, both of Gordonsville; two brothers, William Early Willis Sr., of Fredericksburg, Benjamin H. Willis III, of Madison; a sister, Mary Anne Oddenino Gough, of Orange; and a grandchild, Shane Berry, of Stuarts Draft.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, in Madison, with interment in Rose Park cemetery, Wolftown. The Rev. Ray Berry will officiate.
Joy V. McCarthy
Joy Veronica McCarthy, 70, of Charlottesville, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in a Richmond Hospital.
Born June 23, 1932, in Colombia, South America, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Doyle Foley McCarthy.
She graduated from Eden Hall in Philadelphia, in 1949, and Georgetown Visitation Junior College in Washington D.C. in 1951. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Sr. Pat McCarthy, sfcc, of Richmond, and Eden McCarthy Lyster, of Charlottesville; Four nephews, Michael, Will, and Kevin Lyster, all of Charlottesville, and Terence Lyster, of Yakim, Wash.; and two great-nephews.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Father Brian Mulcahy, O.P. officiating. Interment
will be private.

Thomas F. McDoal
Thomas F. McDoal, 84, of Roscoe N.Y., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, Roscoe, N.Y.
Born September 24, 1918, in Brooklyn N.Y. he was the son of the late Franklin and Margaret M. Hewson McDoal.
Tom was a Communicant of the Gate of Heaven Church, Roscoe, N.Y. He retired from Toms Texaco in Roscoe, N.Y. He was a 46 year member of Rockland Hose Company one, where he served at Chief for 13 years. He was a member of the Sullivan County Past Chiefs Association, a member of the Sullivan County Firemans Association as well as a member of the Roscoe-Rockland Senior Citizens. Prior to operating Toms Texaco, he drove a tractor trailer truck for Milk Tank Service and Provan.
He is Survived by a daughter, Teresa J. Dumier, of Orange; four sons, Thomas V. and his wife, Fran, of Troy N.Y., Michael W. and his wife, Charlotte, of Lovingston Manor, N.Y., William K. and his wife, Kathleen, of Roscoe, N.Y., and Joseph P. and his wife, Esther, of Charlottesville; ten grandchildren, Roy and Edward Bujanovsky, Jimmy McDoal, Bill, Greg, Korri, and Joseph McDoal, Chip and James Woody, and Jolene Dumeier; eight great-grandchildren, Reymond and Analeen Bujanovsky, Rodney and Michael McDoal, Damien and Samantha McDoal, Joseph Schwartz, and Anthony Morgano; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Hazel Finch McDoal; a daughter, Kathleen McDoal Bujanovsky; a son, John Martin McDoal; a sister, Margaret Delmontier; and a grandson, Katan Foster.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Avenue, Roscoe, N.Y. Firematic services will be at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Gates of Heaven Church, Highland Avenue, Roscoe N.Y. Monsignor William Collins will officiate.
Burial will be in the St. Aloysius cemetery, Lovingston Manor, N.Y.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gate of Heaven Church, the Rockland Hose Company one, or the Roscoe Community Nursing Home.

Clinton E. Price
Clinton E. Price, 79, of Charlottesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in Middleburg, N.C. at the home of his son Terry.

Arthur R. Ta'Bois
Arthur Ronald "Tabby" Ta'Bois, 97, died Sunday Nov. 3, 2002.
He was born January 13, 1905, in Woodford Green, Essex, England, a son of the late Mabel Frances Crankshaw and Frederick William Ta'Bois.
In addition to his parents Mr. Ta'Bois was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Alexander Ta'Bois; his brothers, Frederick, Lawrence, Adrian, and Noel Ta'Bois.
"Tabby" is survived by a nephew, Peter F. W. Ta'Bois of Grimsby, England, and two nieces Paula Kwan, of Boston, and Carol Alexander of Atascadero, Calif.
"Tabby" came to the United States in 1929, and began work in New York City. He moved to Cambridge, Mass., in 1932, to begin his career as a manager of the news office at Harvard University, a position held until his retirement in 1970.
He moved to Charlottesville in 1981, to be near his friends, Jim and Rosalind Hingeley, and their family.
"Tabby" was a master gardener and enjoyed classical music. Friends can honor his memory by planting something beautiful of nibbling a petite beurre biscuit, two great pleasures of his life.
Edgar M. Thomas
Edgar Moore "Junior" Thomas Jr., 52, of Orange, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at his residence.
Born May 4, 1950, in Charlottesville, he was the son of Edgar Thomas, of Orange, and the late Venus Thomas.
He is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Goolsby and her husband, Steve, of Madison; two grandchildren, Bradley Goolsby, and Marcus Goolsby, of Madison; five brothers, David Thomas and his wife, Betty, of Orange, Kenneth Thomas and his wife, Brenda, of Orange, Johnny Thomas, and his wife, Tania, of Orange, Glenn Thomas and his wife, Teresa, of Orange, and Michael Thomas and his wife, Melanie, of Madison; six sisters, Doris Ann Thomas, of Orange, Peggy Veazie and her husband Craig, of Maryland, Ellen Colvin and her husband, Mike, of Orange, Brenda Fincham and her husband, Ricky, of Orange, Wanda Smith and her husband, Ricky, of Madison and Kathy Garr and her husband, Robert, of Madison.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Preddy Funeral Home in Orange.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Orange, with interment in the Westview cemetery, Orange. the Rev. Bruce Fincham will officiate.

Edith Falwell Ward
Edith Falwell Ward, 80, of Charlottesville, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at her home.
Edith was the daughter of the late Charles P. Falwell and Rose B. Falwell of Alberene. She was born into a family of four brothers and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her brothers, Lionel, Wadell, George and Berkely.
She is survived by her sisters, Marian Kelly and Louise M. Earl.
Marriage for 48 years to Rhodes William Ward Sr., Edith devoted her life to her family. Together they raised two children, Bonnie Ward Fitzgerald, of Charlottesville and Rhodes William Ward Jr., of Greene County.
Edith survived her husband by fourteen years and lived to enjoy the birth and marriage of three grandsons; one granddaughter; the births of four great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. In addition to her daughter and son, she is survived by; her granddaughter, Rebecca Fitzgerald Waters; her grandsons Jeffrey Ward, M. Todd Ward, and Christopher Ward, and their families.
Always a loving person, it was no surprise that Edith chose a profession that allowed her to care for others. A devoted nurse, she retired from the University of Virginia Hospital in 1983 after 20 years of service. Edith cared for everyone who came into contact with her, always going the extra mile in everything she did.
Edith Ward was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife. She will be missed by all those who knew her.

Diamond Whindleton
Diamond Portray Whindleton, 6, of Mineral, was taken away suddenly to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002.
She was born on February 10, 1996 in Charlottesville, the cherished daughter of Anthony P. Whindleton.
She was a bright first grader at Trevillians Elementary School in Louisa. Diamond was recognized for a number of achievements in her kindergarten year: Jump-A-thon Eagle Award, a top scorer in PALS test, one of four top students in the classroom, Eager Reader Award, and an award for Super Work. She received her Kindergarten Diploma and promotion to first grade in June. She participated in Camp Friendship gymnastics and ballet, and enjoyed fishing. She had many friends and classmates with whom she shared a special relationship.
She loved singing in the children's choir at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Cismont. She regularly attended church, was a youth spokesperson for the Sunbeams Choir and a student in the Primary Sunday school class where she learned and recited the 23rd Psalm and the Lord's Prayer.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Scott and maternal grandfather Herbert Mahanes.
She leaves to cherish her beloved memory her father, Anthony P. Whindleton, of Louisa, and his devoted friend Stephanie Tanner; a paternal grandfather, William Scott and maternal grandmother, Alberta Mahanes, of Gordonsville; maternal great grandparents, Alex Chapman and Elizabeth Chapman, of Keswick; an uncle, Michael Scott of Charlottesville; great uncles, Amos Whindleton and his wife, Delores, of Faber, Earnly Chapman and his wife, Dorothy, and James Chapman and his wife, Rachel of Keswick; great Aunts, Bernice Wade of Rochester, N.Y., Bertha Thomas and her husband, Eugene, of Richmond, Bernice Mitchell and her husband, Kenneth, of Keswick, and Alice Arnette and her husband, Philip, of Gordonsville; a number of cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at South Garden Baptist Church, North Garden, with the Rev. Mary Byers officiating. Interment
will follow in the Whindleton Family cemetery.

Rebecca Clore Willis
Rebecca Clore Willis, 90, of Culpeper, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Home.
Born May 24, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Rufus W. Clore and Bertha Bohannon Clore, and wife of the late Richard B. Willis.
She is a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Criglersville, and attended the Rose Park United Methodist Church. She was a former school teacher at Hoover School and was co-owner of B and F Dress Shop, Madison.
Mrs. Willis is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by a sister Frankie Clore Carpenter; and a brother, James William Clore.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Rose Park cemetery with the Rev. Henry Daniel Aylor officiating.

Donald L. Wilmer
Donald Linwood Wilmer, 79, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Mr. Wilmer was born August 22, 1923, in Rockbridge, and was a son of the late Gilliam H. Wilmer, and Carrie Sorrells Wilmer.
He was a member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church for 56 years where he served as deacon. He was retired from Burlington Industries with 44 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army for four major campaigns. Mr. Wilmer was a member of the 34th Division Army 'Reunion of Retired Members."
He was preceded in death by his wife, Atlas Keiser Wilmer; and two brothers, Basil Wilmer and Talmage Wilmer.
Mr. Wilmer is survived by one son, Danny W. Wilmer and his wife, Myrna, of Troy; one daughter, Susan Wilmer, of Keswick; one brother, Vernon Wilmer, of Buena Vista, one sister, Mildred Lynn, of Buena Vista; three grandchildren, Christopher Wilmer, Meaghan Humphries, and Joshua Humphries; and a step-grandson, Brian Deane, a very special friend.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, Buena Vista.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Buena Vista Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Stewart and the Rev. David Bain officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill cemetery.
