Addie Shifflett Knight
A funeral service for Addie Shifflett Knight will be held at 1 p.m. today at Evergreen Church of the Brethren, of which she was a member, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. C.C. Kurts and the Rev. David Brunk will officiate.

V. Larkin Madison
V. Larkin "Luke" Madison Jr., 68, of Charlottesville, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at his home.
Born September 20, 1934, in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late Vander Larkin and Hazel Birckhead Madison. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Randolph L. Madison; and a sister Ellie V. Powell.
He was a self employed home improvement contractor and former owner of Sandy’s Mart. Mr. Madison was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1028 and VFW Post 1827 as a canteen member.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Sandra Craddock Madison; a son, Vincent Lyle Madison and his wife, Lori of Lake Monticello; two grandsons, Anthony and V.L. Madison; two brothers, Broadus H. Madison of Greene County and Raymond R. Madison of Albemarle County; three sisters; Audrey M. Jones of Greene County, Hilda M. Turner of Charlottesville and Janet M. Mauer of Charlottesville; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
A service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2003, at the First Baptist Church, 735 Park Street, with the Dr. Joel P. Jenkins officiating. Interment
will follow at Riverview cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Marvin Conley, Mike Madison, Mike Shackelford, Pete Johnson, Jim Banton, and Bill Baber. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Tyler, Hampton Breeding, Ricky Thomas, Jim Maupin and Perry Crickenberger.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hill & Wood Funeral Home and Friday after the services at the VFW Post on River Road.

Elizabeth F. Peters
Elizabeth Fehr Peters died Saturday, March 15, 2003, in Virginia Beach.
She was born on April 29, 1919, in Philadelphia. She attended Springside School and was graduated from Low-Heywood School of Noroton, Conn.
During her life Betty was an artist, a gardener and an avid golfer. She was a member of the All American field hockey team and traveled with the team to South Africa and to Australia. She was a lady of many talents and accomplishments, having written a column for the Philadelphia Inquirer and piloted general aviation aircraft. During World War II she worked for Bendix Aviation and served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She was very involved with St. Alban’s Church and the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; four daughters, Catharine F. Gribbel-Beautyman, of Pittsfield, Mass., Julie Peters of Aspen, Colo., Elizabeth P. Dudley, and Sally P. Du Bose, both of Charlottesville; sons-in-law William Beautyman, E. Alexander Dudley and Charles F. Du Bose; and seven grandchildren.
She will long be remembered for her love of animals, her sense of humor and her zest for life.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Ivy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sarah Du Bose Fund, 4042 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903, helping hospitalized children and their families at the University of Virginia.

Ellen F. Russell
Ellen Fairclough Russell, 63, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge after a long battle with carcinoid cancer.
Born in Boston, Mass., on June 22, 1939, to the late J. Laurence and Alice Lewis Fairclough, she attended Newton Country Day and Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass. After graduating from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill., she attended Drake University and graduated from the Tobé Coburn School for Fashion Careers in New York City. After residing for periods in Cincinnati, Ohio, Canton, Conn., Wilbraham, Mass., and Delran, N.J., she and her husband retired to Charlottesville in 1995.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; daughters, Lynne R. Brophy of Loveland, Ohio, and Kristen R. Stone of Groton, Mass.; five grandchildren: Alison, Eric and Drew Stone, and Ned and Erin Brophy; and a brother, William R. Fairclough.
The family is indebted to Dr. William Grosh, Nurse Clinician Priscilla Merrill, and the UVa Cancer Center support staff, whose dedicated care afforded her years of quality time. Thanks are also extended to the caregivers at Westminster Canterbury, Hospice of the Piedmont, and Interim HealthCare.
The family will receive friends at Teague Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2003.
A memorial mass will be held in Wellesley, Mass., on a date to be determined.

Aldwin D. Woodfolk
Aldwin Duran Woodfolk, 46, of Charlottesville, departed this life Friday, March 14, 2003.
He was born October 15, 1956, in Charlottesville. He was the son of Alice Woodfolk. He was the husband of Sylvia "Cookie" M. Woodfolk.
Al was educated in the Charlottesville Public School System and attended Norfolk State University where he majored in Business Administration. He was an employee of Sperry Litton Marine for 15 years. Al was a wonderful husband and father. He took pride in family values and cherished the moments spent with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Richard Aldwin Woodfolk and Kourtney Duran Woodfolk of Charlottesville; two sisters, Gwendolyn Nightengale and her husband, Grafton of Charlotte, N.C., and Linda Felton of Charlottesville; two nieces, Kendra Felton of Charlottesville and Ashley Nightengale of Charlotte, N.C.; three nephews, Daris Nightengale, and Shawn Nightengale of Charlotte, N.C., and Devin Felton of Charlottesville; two uncles, Thomas Woodfolk of Charlottesville and Edward Woodfolk of Washington, D.C.; one great nephew, Tavin Felton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Al will be extremely missed, but surely not forgotten, and his love and spirit will always be with us in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, March 21, 2003, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 105 Ridge Street, with the Rev. Dr. Alvin A. Edwards officiating. Interment
will follow in Oakwood cemetery.

Edna Virginia Wyant
Edna Virginia Wyant, 85, of Elkton, died peacefully with family, Monday, March 17, 2003.
A daughter of the late Worth and Mary James Morris, she was born April 23, 1917, in Augusta County.
Mrs. Wyant was a member of the Grottoes Church of the Brethren. She worked many years for Du Plant in Grottoes and retired after 20 years for Morton Frozen Foods in Crozet.
In 1965, she married
Wade Wyant of Elkton, who survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Via of Ivy; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Julian Via of Grottoes; two granddaughters, Teresa Hester and her husband, Colin, of New Hope, and Sonia Grant and her husband, Chris of Charlottesville; one grandson, Jason Via and his wife, Wendy of Grottoes; three great-grandsons, Adam and Daniel Hester and Christopher Grant; one great-great-granddaughter, Dannah Via; two sisters, Catherine Wilkerson of Grottoes and Ruth Boyd of Chester; one brother, James Morris of Grottoes; many brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Mrs. Wyant was preceded in death by her first husband, William T. Via; four brothers, Gaylan, Robert, Russell and Granvil Morris; and two sisters, Ollie Riddle and Lottie–Sullivan.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 20, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Gene Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery in Harriston.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret T. Allen
Margaret T. Allen, 88, of Arrington, departed this life Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Piscataway, N.J.
Born July 3, 1914, in Nelson County, she was a daughter of the late Wyatt Thompson and Susie Jones Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Allen; and her son, Lee Wyatt Allen.
She was a member of Bright Hope Baptist Church in Lovingston, and is survived by her sons, Rev. Thomas Edward Bell and James Carrington Bell; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bright Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace Spears officiating with burial in the White Rock Family cemetery at Roseland.
The family will receive friends one hour before the time of services at the church.

Jannie Blankenship
Jannie Powell Blankenship, 96, of Standardsville, died Monday, March 17, 2003.
She was the wife of the late Millard Elliott Blankenship.
Mrs. Blankenship was born April 26, 1906, in Albemarle County, a daughter of the late Lizzie Powell. She was a member of Keystone Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Juanita Clements of Pamplin, Nancy Joachim of Lovingston, and Shirley Trobaugh of Weyers Cave; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Walter T. Moon; and a grandson, John P. Clements Jr.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Monty Fox and Danny Trobaugh officiating.
