Maurice E. Turner
Maurice Eugene Turner, 32, departed this life Saturday, January 4, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born July 2, 1970, in Glasgow, son of Delores and Morris Turner of Glasgow.
He attended schools in Rockbridge County, and graduated from Natural Bridge High School. He also attended Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1990, where he served active duty for three years. During his time in the Navy, Maurice became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity while stationed in Charleston, S.C.
He was employed by Ambassador Enterprises of Roanoke.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ishmael and Alice Turner; grandmother, Clara Perry; and uncles, Francis and Lloyd Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Leisa Turner of Earlysville; a son, Darrius Turner of Earlysville; a stepdaughter, Jessica Sims; a daughter, Keyonna Turner of Lexington; his parents, Morris and Delores Turner of Glasgow; his grandfather, Robert Perry of Elon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Luther and Lessie Sims, of Earlysville; sister-in-law, Brookes Sims of Earlysville; brother-in-law, Scottie Sims of Lake Monticello; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.
Maurice Turner's funeral was held Thursday Jan. 9, 2003, at Union Baptist Church, in Glasgow. Interment
was in Evergreen cemetery, Glasgow.
Maurice was also a member of Joppa Lodge No. 329 F&AM; Pha of Glasgow.

George L. Washington
George L. Washington, 73, of Fort Washington, Md., formerly of Madison, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003.
He was a retired Amoco station owner and manager in Alexandria and a veteran.
He was the son of the late D. And late Bessie Washington of Criglersville.
He is survived by one sister, Gladys Scott of Rochester, N.Y.; two brothers, James Washington of Maddox, Md., and Carl Washington of Gordonsville; three sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rueben and Clarence, of Madison.
Family night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greene Family Funeral Home in Alexandria.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Madison Memorial Garden cemetery, Pratt. Apostle Randolph Ragland, of House of God, will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association of the Diabetes Association.
Christopher Campbell
Christopher Robert "Chris" Campbell, 17, of Covesville, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident.
Born May 7, 1985, in Charlottesville, he was the son Robert and Lou Campbell, of Charlottesville.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jane Harris, and his paternal grandfather, Massie Campbell.
Chris was a senior at Monticello High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was active at Covesville Baptist Church and was a Junior Volunteer Fire Fighter with the North Garden Fire Co. he enjoyed hanging out with his friends, playing baseball, softball and riding four-wheelers. He was an avid hunter and stock car race fan.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his maternal grandfather, Jessie Harris Jr. of Faber; his paternal grandmother, Ruth P. Campbell of Covesville; three aunts, Ada H. May of Orange, Becky Campbell of Charlottesville, and Jan Farruggio of Charlottesville; one uncle, Randy Harris of Faber; a number of cousins; and his dear friends, David and Debbie Allen of Covesville, Ritchie Oliva, Thomas Terrell, Caleb Campbell, Evan Graves, John Dodd, Laura Tiscornia, Jason Parham and Cedric Whindleton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Covesville Baptist Church with, the Rev. George A. Woods officiating. Interment
will follow in the Norvelle Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Teague Funeral Home.

Earl H. Garrison
Earl H. Garrison, 80, of Crozet, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at his residence.
He was born in Albemarle County to the late Henry Garrison and Mollie Garrison.
He is survived by his wife, Hattie Garrison; three grandchildren, Jamie Steppe of Buckingham, Janie Kerr and husband, George, of Staunton, and Junior Garrison of Crozet; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one son-in-law, James Junior Steppe.
The family would like to thank the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad for their help.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, Crozet.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, and interment in the Prize Hill cemetery, Boonesville. The Rev. John Brenneke will officiate.

Elizabeth H. Koolage
Elizabeth House Higginbotham Koolage, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2003, in the Orange Nursing Home.
"Betty" was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Ernest Warren House and Mary Josephine Koolage House.
Her father died before her birth, resulting in her being reared and guided by a determined mother who instilled in her a strong sense of independence and resolve.
She lived with her mother in Upper Darby, Pa., Palo Alto, Calif., and Philadelphia, while a child and young adult. She graduated from Longwood College and received he Masters from the University of Virginia.
Betty was first married
to the late James Hunter Higginbotham of Orange, who passed away in 1977, and together, they had five children, who all survive, Donna H. Rosser and her husband, Aubrey, of Altavista, Bruce H. Hemp and her husband, Thomas, of Middlebrook, James H. Higginbotham II and his wife, Phyllis, of Altavista, Kent C. Higginbotham and his wife, Kathryn, of Orange, and MeriCaryl Higginbotham, also of Orange. These children are the parents of Betty's 10 loving grandchildren.
Betty and Hunter established a home in Orange, where all of her children were raised. Operating a farm household, she and Hunter were models for the strong moral character her children still exhibit. She taught at Grymes Memorial School, participated in the Orange Women's Club, and was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Betty's life was further enriched in 1989, when she married
Harry N. Koolage Jr., of Annapolis, Md., who also survives. With Harry she loved and adored three stepchildren, Kristin K. Berry and her husband, Wayne, of Columbia, Md., Kathy K. Hamrich and her husband, Thomas, of Ijamsville, Md., and Harry N. "Kip" Koolage III and his wife, Cindy, of Arnold, Md. Four adoring step-grandchildren also survive.
Betty's joy was always revealed in her love for her children, stepchildren, grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Preddy Funeral Home, Orange.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Main Street, Orange. Interment
will be at 3 p.m. in the Higginbotham Family cemetery in Amherst.

Graveside funeral services for Katie Frances Butler May will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon in the North Pamunkey Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by Dr. Mike Hatfield, the Rev. Jeff White, and the Rev. Marvin Gobble.

Eugene P. Pollard
The Rev. Eugene Pritchard Pollard, 93, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Lacy Elmo Sandridge
Lacy Elmo Sandridge, 76, of Wilmington, N.C., went to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center.
He was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Charlottesville, to the late Lacy and Peachie Armstrong Sandridge.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. James Edward Sandridge and Robert Macon Sandridge.
Elmo was a member of Winter Park Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy. He was a member of American Legion Post 74 and Voiture 1184, in Charlottesville, and the Lower Cape Fear Coin Club of Wilmington, N.C. He also owned Sandridge Auto Parts in Charlottesville and was retired from the Movie Palace.
Mr. Sandridge is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Sandridge; one son, Lacy Sandridge and wife, Alice, of Clemmons, N.C.; one daughter, Mary Klinker, and husband, Michael, of Herndon; one brother, the Rev. David Sandridge and wife, Marsha, of Jackson, Ga.; six grandchildren, Mikki Sandridge, Ted Sandridge, Carrie Klinker, Joe Klinker, Mark Klinker and Kevin Klinker; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hill & Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Charlottesville, with the Rev. David Sandridge officiating. Interment
will follow in Monticello Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Edith Rogers Thomas
Edith May Rogers Thomas, 77, of Barboursville, departed this life Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Charlottesville.
She was born Feb. 3, 1925, in Albemarle County and was married
to the late Lamon Thomas.
She was a devoted member of the Full Gospel Assembly Pentecostal Church in Charlottesville and was a loving and caring person who loved the Lord.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her mother, Viola Shifflett Rogers of Madison Run; two daughters, Sally McDonald and husband, Harry, of Kents Store, and Laura Morris and husband, Robert "Bobby", of Barboursville; one son, William C. Rogers and wife, Shirley, of Barboursville; two brothers, Claude Junior Rogers and Johnnie Rogers, both of Madison Run; six sisters, Madeline Dean, Christine Bercham and Beatrice Bibbs, all of Madison Run, Marie Taylor of Stafford, Bernice Henry of Madison Run, and Shirley McClure of Barboursville; three grandchildren, Teresa Davies of Troy, William Michael Rogers of Tacoma, Wash., and Dwayne Morris of Barboursville; two great-grandchildren, Justin Morris and Skylar Cheyenne Davies, of Troy; and a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Rogers and Earl Rogers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville, with interment in Maplewood cemetery. The Rev. Ronnie Sipe and the Rev. Edward Buzzy Deane will officiate.

Lance W. Anderson
Lance Willard Anderson, 96, of Aroda, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, in Culpeper.
He was born Aug. 25, 1906, in Greene County, the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Anderson and Hutoca Taylor Anderson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Graydon, Anderson, Clifton Anderson, Walter Anderson, and Robley Anderson; and a sister, Dulcie Anderson.
He was a member of Walker's United Methodist Church and retired as a machinist of Clark Manufactory in Orange.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice McDaniel Anderson of Aroda; a daughter, Marie A. Spencer and her husband, Davis, of Culpeper; a son, Lance Willard Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Dixie, of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Wanda S. Morris of Culpeper and Lancee C. Anderson of Collage Park, Ga.; and a great-grandson, Duane Morris of Culpeper.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, with the Rev. Bill Clayton. Interment
will take place in Walker's United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Oneda Mae Bennett
Oneda Mae Bennett, 94, of Orange, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Orange County Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 17, 1908, in Madison County to the late Robert Lee Tusing and Mary Bazzle Tusing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Bennett; five brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by two special nieces, Pansy Walton of Florida, and Freida Bennett of Orange; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Nebo Lutheran Church cemetery, Rochelle. The Rev. Joe Brumett will officiate.
