Martha F. Smith
Martha Florence Smith, 76, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at a local hospital.
Born May 2, 1926, in Beaumont, Texas, and was she was the daughter of the late Armin Rozman and Julia Schonwald Rozman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sanford Rozman.
Martha served as a Geographic Intelligence Specialist at Army Map Service in Bethesda, Md., from 1953 until 1958. She was an active member of ORT of Northern Virginia. She was a founding and board member of the Charlottesville Chapter of Hadassah from 1973 until 2001. Martha was an active volunteer and member of Congregation Beth Israel.
Survivors include her husband, Eben Elliot Smith, of Charlottesville; a son, Gary M. Smith, and his wife, Debbie, of Reston; a daughter, Gayla M. Mills and her husband, Gene, of Richmond; a son, Greg Smith, and his wife, Erika Herz, of Hartford, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Rozman, of Kensington, Md.; and two grandchildren, Justin Galysh Smith and Talia Rebecca Smith.
The family is grateful to the staff of Rosewood Village for their compassionate care during the past year and to all her friends for their love and support.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. today at Hill & Wood Funeral Chapel, with Rabbi Daniel Alexander officiating. Interment
will follow at Hebrew cemetery.

John Weidman
John Weidman, 71, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at his home.

Woodrow L. Wilson
Woodrow "Woody" Lee Wilson, 67, of Crozet, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at a local hospital.
He was born May 25, 1925, to Elwood and Gladys Wilson.
Survivors include, his mother, Gladys Wilson, of Charlottesville; a sister, Nancy Freeman, of Charlottesville; a son, Bruce Wilson and his wife, Judy, of Charleston, W.Va.; and grandchildren, Ryan, Jonathan, and Cody Wilson.
He graduated from Red Hill High and also attended two years at the Jefferson School of Commerce. Woody worked as a produce manager at Stop & Shop, then moved to Gloucester. He received an honorable discharge from the Army National Guard. For 25 years, he worked for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. Other accomplishments include being past president and member of Gloucester Golf Association. Woody was also a member of the Crozet's Sportsman Club.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crozet Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Thomas officiating. Interment
will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Monticello Memory Gardens.

Mary C. Blatz
Mary Catherine Pipes Blatz, 49, of Orange, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born Oct. 22, 1953, in Hemmingway, S.C., she was the daughter of Clyde T. Pipes and Mary G. "Betty" Pipes of Rapidan.
She is survived by one son, Warren D. "Buddy" Blatz III of Orange; and one sister, Cynthia Pipes Johnson and her husband, Charles E. Johnson, of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Cathy was a member of Lower Rapidan Baptist Church, a graduate of Orange County High School and the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy.
Cathy was a wonderful and dedicated mother, daughter, sister and friend. We will always remember her laughter, wit, smiles and sweet spirit.
Memorial funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Orange, with the Pastor Donald Apperson officiating.

James M. Cannon
James Michael Cannon, 51, of Castleton, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Cannon, fondly known to many as "Jimmy, " was born Feb. 24, 1951, in Charlottesville, to Mr. Ray Thomas Cannon and the late Ruby Stringfellow Cannon.
Jimmy proudly graduated from Randolph Macon Military Academy, and in 1973, graduated from Virginia Tech. Most recently Jimmy worked as the Field Sales Coordinator for the Culpeper Farmers Co-op., was a member of the Sperryville United Methodist Church, stood in the Rappahannock Farm Bureau Insurance Board of Directors, and was the Vice President of the Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Department.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Martha Fulbright Cannon; a daughter, Ashleigh Grady Cannon; a son, James Michael Cannon II; two sisters, Ann Cannon Powell of Warrenton, and Donna Cannon Wilkers and her husband, Chuck, of New Baltimore; a sister and brother-in-law, David and Vicky Mergenthal, of Fredericksburg; two devoted uncles, Dallas Stringfellow and his wife, Fran, both of Warrenton; Alphaeus F. Cannon and his wife, Kitty, both of Castleton; seven nieces and nephews, Ross, Lee and Drew Wilkers, David, Bethany and Meredith Powell, and Alden Mergenthal; and a long-time friend, Peter Powell.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, with the Pastor Merlin W. Shorb and the Rev. Phillip Baily officiating. Interment
will follow at the Cannon Family cemetery in Castleton.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Harrison J. Cox
Harrison James Cox, 83, of Shipman, departed this life Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Lovingston Health Care Center.
Born July 10, 1919, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Willie Cox and Charlotte Braddock Cox.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Brown Cox, in 1986; and by his brothers, William and Eugene Cox.
He was retired from Southern Railroad and S.L. Williamson and Co. He was a member of Montreal Baptist Church at Shipman.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Shirley Mae Elcox of Shipman, Charlotte Foster of Arrington and Margaret Thomas of Germantown, Md.; his son, Harrison W. Cox of College Park, Md.; two brothers, Calvin Cox of Madison Heights and Rexford Cox of Silver Springs, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from Montreal Baptist Church with the Rev. Ruth Massie officiating and the Rev. Horace Spears serving as eulogist. Interment
will follow in Little Zion Baptist Church cemetery on Hubbards Hill.
Friends may call at the church after 11 a.m. Wednesday for viewing and visitations and at all other times at the residence of Shirley Elcox at Shipman.

Edwin May Garr
Edwin May Garr, 77, of Wolftown, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at the Culpeper Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 9, 1925, in Madison County, the son of the late Linwood Garr and Rena May Garr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Delph Garr.
He is survived by many friends in the Madison area and special care givers, Emma Pullen, and Marjorie Shifflett of Wolftown.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, conducted by Dr. Tommy Palmer with interment in the Cedar Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Douglas C. Megginson
Douglas Campbell Megginson Jr., 76, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, 2003.
He was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Gladstone, the son of the late Douglas Campbell Megginson Sr., and Verdie Duncan Megginson of Gladstone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt and uncle, Iva and Forest Duncan; his wife, Estelle Megginson, a son, Douglas "Butch" Megginson; a brother, James A. "Jimmy" Megginson; and an uncle, Irma Duncan.
Following his service in World War II, Doug received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946, and retired from the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1981. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roanoke. His affiliations include Williamson Road Lodge No. 163 AF & AM, Roanoke Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Kazim Shrine Temple. Doug had a great love for trains. He reached out to others with love and compassion and will be well remembered for that. Doug was loved by many people and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Gwen Megginson of Charlottesville; step-daughter, Samantha Hammond and her husband, Hugh, and her daughter, Iris, all of Roanoke; step-daughter, Kim Grafton and her husband, Steve, her daughter, Stephanie, and her son, Steven, all of Virginia Beach; a step-son, J. Matthew Irish of Norfolk; a sister, Margaret Thornton of Concordia, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Oakey's North Chapel. Interment
with Masonic Rites by Williamson Road Lodge will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Edith Beazley Miller, 93, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Westminster Canterbury.
Born Nov. 28, 1909, in Orange County, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lora Carpenter Beazley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Miller.
She is survived by a sister, Lora B. Sims of Winston Salem, N.C.; four nieces, Sylvia E. Sims, Linda S. Bauer, Lucy Lee D. Buchholz, and Vivian D. Davis.

Helen Corene Sisk, 68, of Aroda, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at the Mountain View Nursing Home.
Born April 12, 1934, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Perry W. Sisk and Fenton Nicholson Sisk.
She is survived by three brothers, Herbert Sisk of Culpeper, Lester Sisk of Stanardsville, and Robert Sisk of Culpeper; five sisters, Mattie Shifflett of Louisa, Alice Shifflett of Charlottesville, Mary Peacher of Culpeper, Stella Edwards of Madison, and Ella Edwards of Culpeper.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Thourfare Bible Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Charles Shifflett and Pastor Perry Utz.
