Bessie D. Weeks
Bessie Dean Weeks, 85, of Ruckersville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at her home.
She was born June 28, 1917, in Greene County, a daughter of the late Frank and Bessie McDaniel Long.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenvil G. Dean; her second husband, George Weeks; two sisters, Nell and Sally Long; three brothers, Hugh Long, James Long, and John Long; and a daughter-in-law, Loretta Dean.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Dean and his wife, Faye, and Fred Dean, all of Stanardsville; a sister, Delia Knisely of Fairview, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Tracy D. Knight and Alva, Pan D. Buttner and Troy, Lenis D. Gibson and Graig, and Shannon Dean and Stephanie; and five great grandchildren, Katie Knight, Sara and Samantha Buttner, and Amity and Zakary Gibson.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Funeral Chapel in Quinque, with Pastor Mark Holder officiating. Interment
will follow in the Stanardsville cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Weidman
John Calvin Weidman, 71, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at his home.
Born Feb. 24, 1931, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late John C. and Eleanor Cushwa Weidman.
John worked in the natural propane gas industry in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia and was an avid gardener during the summer, an orchid grower, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Butler Weidman of Charlottesville; two sons, John Calvin Weidman III and his wife, Mary, of Clarks Hill, S.C., and Brian Stewart Weidman and his wife, Deborah, of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, Katherine V. Weidman and Charles C. Weidman.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Carlton officiating. Interment
will be private in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Hazel M. Weisner
Hazel M. Weisner, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at the Mountain View Nursing Home where she had been a resident for three years.
Hazel was born Oct. 6, 1911, at White Post, the daughter of the late Vernon and Annie Miller Hausenfluck.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only daughter, Wilma Jean who died in 1939; and her husband, George Jacob Weisner who died in 1943.
She lived most of her life in the Washington, D.C., area where she was an employee of the U.S. Department of Labor.
She is survived by her brother, Byron Harris and his wife, Martha of Fort Pierce, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Helen Harris of Etlan; and a devoted caretaker, Elmina Yoder of Pratts.
A memorial service will be held at the nursing home at a later date. Private interment will be at the Salem Church of the Brethren cemetery, Stephens City, Later this week.

Quintina J. Bates
Quintina Ja'Nell Martin Bates, 28, of Palmyra, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in a Charlottesville Hospital.
She was born Aug. 4, 1974, in Charlottesville, the daughter of James Edward Martin Jr., and Audrey Bland Martin.
She was a member of the Courts of Praise Christian Fellowship.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Kevin N. Bates; one daughter, JaQuinta Martin-Bates, both of Palmyra; her parents, James and Audrey Martin of Charlottesville; her paternal grandfather, James Martin Sr., of Palmyra; one brother, Rodney Martin and his wife, Carrie of Palmyra; two nieces; one nephew; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Effort Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Wilbert D. Brassfield. Interment
will follow in the Bland Family cemetery.
There are no specific hours for a wake.

Edwin May Gaar
Funeral services for Edwin May Gaar will be held at 2 p.m. today, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, conducted by Dr. Tommy Palmer with interment in the Cedar Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Nadejda Karakacheff
Nadejda Karakacheff, 93, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in Stanardsville.
She was born in the mountains of Bulgaria on Jan. 17, 1909.
She was educated in Sophia, Bulgaria. In 1932, she married
Wladmir Karakacheff, the only Bulgarian member of the Secretariat of the League of Nations. Prior to World War II they lived in Paris, France. At the beginning of the war they left France and returned to Sophia, Bulgaria, where they remained throughout World War II.
In 1946, the Karakacheffs moved to Geneva, Switzerland, where Mr. Karakacheff began work as a member of the United Nations Secretariat. His work with the UN took the Karakacheffs to many countries throughout the world, including Indonesia, Somalia, Switzerland and the United States. After Mr. Karakacheff's retirement from the UN, they settled in Washington, D.C., and became United States citizens. Because of her husband's poor health, they moved to Majorca, Spain, where he died. Mrs. Karakacheff then lived in Geneva for 11 years before returning to the United States in 1975.
She settled in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she lived until 1990. She was active in volunteer work with the museum, library and the First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville. She was also active with the "craftees." In 1990, she moved to the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, where she remained until poor health necessitated her move to Evergreen in Stanardsville.
Isaac N. King
Isaac Nixon "Sonny" King, 69, of North Madison Street, Orange, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born March 4, 1933, in Orange County, he was the son of the late Isaac Nixon and Catherine Dreher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Prencessilla "Annette" Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth King of Orange; two daughters, Katherine Fauntleroy of Somerset, and Betty Jackson of Orange; five sons, Joseph Humes, David King, Ruban King, Willie King, and Kerry King, all of Orange; 30 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mr. King owned and operated the King Pool Hall in Orange for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Preddy Funeral Chapel in Orange, with the Rev. Darnell Lundy officiating. Interment
will be held in the Westview cemetery in Orange.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Preddy Funeral Home of Orange.
Edith B. Miller
Edith Beazley Miller, 93, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Westminster Canterbury.
Born Nov. 28, 1909, in Orange County, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lora Carpenter Beazley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Miller; three sisters, Cornelia E. Beazley, Cornelia B. Douglass, and Roy C. Beazley.
She was a 1930 graduate of UVa School of Nursing and was a L.P.N. instructor at Martha Jefferson Hospital until her retirement.
She is survived by a sister, Lora B. Sims of Winston Salem, N.C.; four nieces, Sylvia E. Sims, Linda S. Bauer, Lucy Lee D. Buchholz, and Vivian D. Davis.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Dr. Joel P. Jenkins officiating. Interment
will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.

Henry L. Walker Sr.
Henry Louis Walker Sr., 79, of Charlottesville, entered into eternal rest Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at the Cedars Nursing Center.
He was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude Walker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carrie Walker; and one son, Henry L. Walker Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory one son, William Walker; one daughter, Carolyn Walker; and one sister, Mary Henson, all of Charlottesville; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday at Oak Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Loretta Wyant officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Walter Chambers Jr.
Walter B. Chambers Jr., 22, of Rahway, N.J., departed this life Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in Roselle, N.J.
Born Jan. 3, 1981, he is the son of Anna M. George Turner of Esmont, and the late Walter B. Chambers Sr.
He was educated in the Roselle Public School System and graduated from the Abraham Clark High School, Class of 1998. He was currently attending Capri Institute in Kenilworth.
Walter was employed as a customer service representative in the men's department of Macys Department Store. He was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church in Roselle, N.J., and also a member of the Sunday School, the Junior Usher Board and the Youth Department of the Church.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memories, a stepfather, Gary B. Turner of Esmont; two sisters, Pamela J. Henderson and Megan O. Merine; a stepbrother, DeGary Turner; a step sister, Cumi Turner; grandparents, Willie B. and Robert L. George; three uncles, Toby George, Roy George, and James Chambers; three aunts, Barbara Manning, Edith Ayers, and Diane Chambers; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at noon Saturday at the Spreading Oak Baptist Church, in Arvonia. Interment
will be in the church cemetery.
Walter will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
