Evelyn Walker
Evelyn Bryant Hix Walker, 76, of Mineral, died Sunday, April 6, 2003.
She was a daughter of the late Charlie R. Hix and Nettie Marsh Hix. She was the widow of Samuel Benjamin Walker.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Jean Walker Spain and Fred Spain of Richmond; sons, Ronald Edward Walker of Mineral, Charles Norman Walker and his friend Betty Smith and her family of Goochland; brothers, Milton R. Hix of Water Valley, Mass., and Archie Edward "Fuzzy" Hix of Mineral; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, where funeral services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2003, at 11 a.m. Interment
will be in Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.,
Memorial donations may be made to the Louisa County Rescue Squad.
Aubrey Wood
Aubrey "Tyrone" Wood, 60, of Charlottesville, died.
Born September 1, 1942, he was the son of the late Leonard R. and Elaine Eubanks Wood.
He is survived by a daughter, Monica Renie Gregory and her husband, Gerald of Palmyra; a sister, Janet Ray Washington of Charlottesville; a brother, Leonard "Bobby" Wood of Kingston, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pilgram Baptist Church, Albemarle St., Charlottesville. The Rev. Stanley Woolfolk and the Rev. William Coleman III, will officiate.

Gerald R. Cassell
Gerald R. Cassell, 69, of Charlottesville, entered into eternal rest Monday, April 7, 2003, at his residence after a long illness.
He was born December 8, 1933, in Washington, D.C., to the late William Collins and Rachel Fisher Collins.
He was employed as a drug counselor at Boxwood in Culpeper, Va., until his retirement. He was also an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Cassell, William Collins, Gene Collins, Norman Collins and Melvin Collins.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 43 years, Mabel J. Cassell of Charlottesville; two sisters, Deloris Ferguson and Barbara Anderson, both of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews, and beloved relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday April 11, 2003, at the funeral home.
The family asks that flowers please be omitted.

James Rosser Harlow
James Rosser "Gimpy" Harlow, 64, of Charlottesville, died Monday, April 07, 2003, at his residence.
Born April 21, 1938 in Charlottesville, he was the son of the late Claude Howard Harlow and Julia Smith Harlow; and husband of the late Betty Frazier Harlow. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Ann Herring.
He was retired as a material analyst from Comdial. He was a volunteer with the Charlottesville/Albemarle Rescue Squad for many years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Charlottesville where he sang in the choir.
He is survived by three sisters, Betty Dilla of Charlottesville, Catherine Bingler of Charlottesville, and Joyce Clits of Yorktown; one brother, Claude Howard Harlow Jr., of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 10, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Charlottesville by Mr. Frank Forehand. Interment
will follow at the Riverview cemetery.
The family will receive friends today at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at Jimmy’s residence.

Jane Hetler
Jane Hetler, 83, of Wintergreen, Va., passed away comfortably in her home on Saturday April 5, 2003.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Kyle Lynn; her granddaughter and her husband, Stuart and Paul Spicer; and her grandson, Hunter Lynn.
Born June 1, 1919, in Brawley, Calif., she studied dance at the University of Arizona and later married
her husband, the late Captain Carson Hetler. As a military couple, the two traveled extensively, living in Florida, Hawaii, Philadelphia, and Northern Virginia. Later retiring in Stoney Creek at Wintergreen, where they lived for 14 years the couple was among the first in the developing community and met a network of friends through active participation in neighborhood associations and weekly bridge groups.
As a loving mother, grandmother, and devoted friend, Jane touched the lives of all who knew her. With her strong determination, warm smile, and love of life she, will be greatly missed. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held on April 19 at 2 p.m. at her home in Stoney Creek.
Willie V. Jones
Willie Via Jones, 84, of Earlysville, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in a local hospital.
Born January 4, 1919, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Wood and Carrie Florence Crenshaw Via and was the wife of the late Vernon W. Jones.
Willie drove a school bus for Albemarle County Schools for many years before going to work for the University of Virginia Medical Center where she retired after many years of service. She was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Barber Shop Bells of the Senior Center and was a member of the Earlysville Home Extension Club for 61 years. She loved people and enjoyed life, flowers, hummingbirds and family history.
She is survived by her son, Vernon "Bill" Jones Jr., and his wife, Patsy; a daughter, Jacqueline J. Crawford; a sister, Barbara Via; and seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Washburn and the Rev. Bert Young officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church.

Frances H. Madden
Frances Hawkins Madden, 87, of McLean, Va., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the Orange County Nursing Home.
She is survived by two sisters, Minnie Virginia Snow and Maxine Hawkins Tanner, both of Madison.

Louise J. McCalister
Louise J. McCalister, 102, of Radiant, Va., died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at her residence.
Born February 6, 1901, in Jamestown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Fred L. and Freida Tonger Jenson. Her husband was the late Hillie J. McCalister. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and by her care-giver, Cora Jackson.
Survivors include the family of Cora Jackson.
A visitation and viewing will be held today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Orange. Burial will be private at a later ate in Fairview cemetery, Culpeper.
Anneliese E. Muscari
Anneliese Elizabeth Muscari, 80, of Charlottesville, died Monday, April 7, 2003, in a local hospital.
Born November 16, 1922, in Addorf, Switzerland, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Anna Machler Baumberger; and the sister of her beloved Charles.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Vincent Muscari; one daughter, Esther Lin of Charlottesville; two sons, Joseph C. Muscari of New York and C. Carl Muscari of New Hampshire; and the seven grandchildren, she cherished: Joseph, John, Marisa, Anneliese, Samantha, Molly and Carly.
A funeral mass will be conducted 11 a.m. today at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Interment
will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.

Cornelia Proffitt
Cornelia Neff Highlander Proffitt, died Monday April 7, 2003, at the Culpeper Regional Hospital.
Born November 16, 1918, in Orange County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ewell and Lucy Morris Brookman. She was also predeceased by two husbands, Lucian Highlander and Wilbert Proffitt.
Mrs. Proffitt was a member of the Ladies of the Moose, a Secretary for the Collinswood Community Center, a member of the American Ladies Bowling Association, and belonged to the Baptist Faith. She was also a former manager of a local retail store.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty H. Hughes and her husband, Royce, of Orange, and Pam L. Highlander of Charlottesville; one son, Lucian Phillip Highlander Jr., and his wife, Tina of Carlton, Texas; one sister, Martha B. Harp of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, April 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Oakwood cemetery in Unionville. Dr. Stanley Johnson will officiate.
The family will receive friends anytime at the home of Betty and Royce Hughes, 12206 Melton Rd., Orange.

Fate T. Stewart
Fate T. Stewart, 82, of Rhoadesville, Va., died Monday, April 7, 2003, at his residence.
Born November 22, 1920, in Florence, Ala., he was the son of the late Lee and Angaline Johnson Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was a retired auto body technician.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Delsie M. Stewart of Rhoadesville, Va.; two sons, William Wilkerson of Rhoadesville, Va., and Thomas Stewart of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; one daughter, Mrs. Glendia Wade of Lima, Ohio; five sisters, Mrs. Dora Clemonns of Patterson, N.J., Mrs. Ella Wortham of Henderson, N.C., Mrs. Louise Koger of Florence, Ala., Mrs. Hattie Mae Boyd of Florence, Ala., and Mrs. Lola Stewart of Florence, Ala.; one brother, David Stewart of Patterson, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday April 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Satchell’s Funeral Home Chapel, Orange, with the Rev. Charles Gentry officiating. Interment
will take place at Culpeper National cemetery.
Visitation will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Peggy Sue Vincil
Peggy Sue Vincil, 52, of Orange, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born September 25, 1950, in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late George and Francis Rider Gallihugh. Her husband was the late Frank Carl Vincil. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Edith Mae Rider.
Survivors include one daughter, Tonia Renee Gallihugh of Orange; one son, Ski Carl Gallihugh of Orange; and two grandchildren, Amber Dove and Bradley Vincil, both of Orange.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2003, from the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Orange, with interment in Etlan cemetery. Pastor John Shifflett will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
