Linda Ann Ward
Linda Ann Pugh Ward, 51, of Crozet, Virginia, passed away at home, Friday, April 11, 2003, at 11:15 p.m. after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born December 29, 1951, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Gordon and Lucille Pugh.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert C. Ward; and her father-in-law, Robert T. Ward, both of Crozet; two children, Steven R. Ward, of Huntersville, N.C., and Sherry L. Ward, of Crozet; brothers, Douglas Gordon Pugh, of Crozet, Edward George Pugh, of Waynesboro, Charles Michael Pugh, of Greenwood, Donald Wayne Pugh, of Fluvanna, Ronnie Wilson Pugh, Bobby Lee Pugh and Jeffrey Allen Pugh and his wife, Tammy, all of Crozet; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ward provided care for many children throughout her life. She was a member of Crozet United Methodist Church, where she served as nursery attendant for over 20 years and was a member of the Joybelle Circle. She was also a nursery attendant for Crozet Baptist Church, was employed by the Sunshine Child Care Center in Crozet, and was a former member of the Crozet Firemen’s Wives.
A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday at the Teague Chapel. Interment
will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.

Elizabeth B. Weedon
A memorial service for Elizabeth Bayard Weedon, who died Tuesday, February 25, 2003, will be held on Monday, April 28, 2003, at St. Paul’s Memorial Church at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. David Poist officiating.
Mrs. Weedon was the wife of William Stone Weedon, a "University" professor of the University of Virginia. She was the elder daughter of Senator and Mrs. Thomas Francis Bayard of Wilmington, Delaware. She had lived in Charlottesville for 68 years.
She was well-known locally for her long-standing philanthropy to many Charlottesville institutions.
She is survived by three children and three grandchildren.
Natalie P. Wood
Natalie Perry Wood, 68, of Gordonsville, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at her residence.
Born June 4, 1934, in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Hopkins Perry and Madeline Breeden Perry.
She was a member of Gordonsville Baptist Church.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, Arthur T. Wood Jr., of Gordonsville; one daughter, Sharon W. Whitbeck of Orange; two sons, Wayne T. Wood, of Gordonsville, Steven B. Wood and his wife, Karen, of Stafford; four grandchildren, Shannon Whitbeck, of Orange, Ronnie C. "Buck" Whitbeck Jr., of Orange, Chad Wood, of Stafford, Amber Wood, of Stafford; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Young, of Unionville, Amberlin Whitbeck, of Orange, Keri Whitbeck, of Orange, Lauryn Whitbeck, of Orange; and her father-in-law, Arthur T. Wood Sr., of Gordonsville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Gordonsville Baptist Church with interment to follow in Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville. Pastor Carmon Hartsfield will officiate.

A memorial service for Francis Lewis Berkeley Jr., will be held Sunday, May 4, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the University Chapel with a reception to follow in the McGregor Room of the Alderman Library.
Frances E. Birckhead
A funeral service celebrating Mrs. Birckhead's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Templeton officiating with the Rev. Sidney Craig assisting. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
Wade Davis Jr.
Wade Davis Jr., 79, of Aroda, died Monday, March 31, 2003, in the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born October 2, 1923, in Madison County and was the son of the late Wade H. Davis, and Irene Mallory Davis.
Mr. Davis was retired from Keller’s Manufacturing of Culpeper and was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Davis of Aroda; two daughters, Eleanor Marie Davis of Aroda and Delores A. Davis of Wolftown; a step-daughter, Debbie Hinegardner of Elkton; five brothers, Herbert W. Davis of Baltimore, Md., Earl F. Davis of Charlottesville, Archie B. Davis of Aroda, Shirley E. Davis of Ruckersville, and Billie L. Davis of Orange; two sisters, Mary Shifflett of Aroda and Marjorie Ann Foster of Pratts; and a step-granddaughter, Tiffiny Hinegardner. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Tanner Davis; a brother, Thomas J. Davis; and a sister, Hazel Rebecca Davis.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Madison, with interment in Walkers United Methodist Church cemetery. Military honors by Culpeper American Legion Post # 330 and Pastor Jeff Shifflett will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frank W. Finger
Frank Whitney Finger, 87, died Monday, March 31, 2003.
Son of the Reverend Jacob and Elizabeth Lewis Finger, Dr. Finger was born April 16, 1915, in Naples, N.Y., educated in the public schools of Western New York, graduated from Syracuse University in 1936, received his Ph.D. in psychology from Brown University in 1940, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Baltimore in 1985. He was a member of the Psychology Department of the University of Virginia from March 1942, until his retirement in 1985, and was associated in various capacities with the University’s Department of Athletics. He also held appointments at Brown University, University of Wisconsin, Yale University, University of Sussex (England), and Canterbury University (New Zealand).
Immediate family members include his wife, Eleanor "Nell" Ford Varn Finger of Charlottesville; Allen Latane and Simone Flock Long of Batesville, Va.; Thomas McGavock Long of Claremont, Va.; Elizabeth Lewis Finger of Arcata, Calif.; Dr. William Whitney Finger and Dr. Kerry Lee Holland of Johnson City, Tenn.; Eleanor Ford Finger of Pullman, Wash.; and Louise Anderson Finger of Free Union, Va. Additional family members include six grandchildren, Jennifer Paige Long of Wakefield, Va.; Adrienne Nicole Long of Waverly, Va.; Amelia Nicole Stephenson of Arcata, Calif.; Matthew Allen Long and Sean Douglas Long of Batesville, Va.; Clay Orion Keniston-Finger, of Arcata, Calif.; and one great-granddaughter, Alayna Nicole Long, of Waverly, Va.
Dr. Finger was a longtime communicant of St. Paul’s Memorial Church. He was active in the American Psychological Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Virginia Psychological Association, and served as consultant for a number of federal agencies and professional journals. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and the Raven Society.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at St. Paul’s Memorial Church, Charlottesville. Burial will be private.

Wallace Kennedy
Wallace Kennedy, 57, of Batesville, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born on April 27, 1945, in Albemarle County to Virginia Louise Kirby and the late Gary Hartwell Kennedy.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Kennedy; one daughter, Tracey Kennedy Morris and her husband, Duane, of Batesville; and one son, Kevin Kennedy and his wife, Johanna, of Crozet; and three grandchildren, Malia Kennedy, Blaine Kennedy and Ellie Morris. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert L. Kennedy of Charlotte, N.C., and Phillip "Sam" Kennedy and his wife, Debra, of Palmyra, Va.
He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing, softball, Nascar racing and especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on today at 2 p.m. at the Batesville United Methodist Church. Interment

Katherine Kingsley
Katherine Williams Kingsley, 25, of White Hall, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born in Pennsylvania on July 13, 1977, she was the daughter of Beverley Bush Kingsley of Crozet and George Pomeroy Kingsley Jr., and his companion, Anne Clarke Brady of Charlottesville.
Ms. Kinglsey was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brothers, William Thomas Kingsley and his companion, Amy Cerilli, of Harrisonburg, Va., John Stearnes Kingsley of Tuscon, Ariz., Ashley Randolph Kinglsey of Charlottesville; her aunt, Anne Stearnes Bush of Richmond, her extended family, Elizabeth Miller of Pittsford, N.Y., George Pomeroy Kinglsey, IV, Lt. U.S.N.R. of Charleston, S.C.; and her beloved dogs, Abby and Gunny.
Funeral Services will be private.

Evelyn M. Kovacs
Evelyn Morrow Kovacs, 85, of Charlottesville, died peacefully at her home Saturday evening, March 29, 2003.
Born March 3, 1918, in Garrettsville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Selma Sachrison Morrow, and widow of Emil Louis Kovacs.
Mrs. Kovacs was a retired librarian with the public school system, an active member of the American Association of University Women, the Alzheimer’s Association Charlottesville-Piedmont Chapter, and the Joy Group at the Meadows Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Marti Kovacs of Charlottesville; two sons, Louis C. Kovacs of White Plains, Md., and James D. Kovacs of Salinas, Calif.; a brother, Alan Morrow of Rocky River, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
In honoring Evelyns request, there will be no funeral service or memorial service. Each of us is asked to remember her in our own fond and special way and to keep her memory dear to us.

Thomas H. Lambert
Thomas H. "Tommy" Lambert, 63, of Richmond, died Sunday, March 30, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Lambert; two daughters, Kimberly Lambert and Ammie Lambert; a granddaughter, Katherine Lawrence; a brother, William Nelson "Fuzzy" Lambert, also known to his brother Tommy as "Bubba"; a sister, Myra Jane Cooke; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lambert has been actively involved in the food service industry in the Richmond and Charlottesville areas for more than 40 years, and received great pleasure from serving good food to his customers.
His family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m.

Everett E. Lawson Jr.
Everett Earl Lawson Jr., 72, of Stanardsville, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003, at his home.
He was born September 26, 1930, in Greene County, a son of the late Everett Earl Lawson Sr., and Lannie Lawson Raines. He was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Lawson.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Shifflett Lawson; a daughter, Jean Ayers and her husband, Thomas; a son, Greg Lawson and his wife Suzanne Lawson, all of Stanardsville; three grandchildren, Ashley Ayers, Betsy Lawson and Ben Lawson; two sisters, Darlene McGuffin and Sylvia Mallory of Stanardsville.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ryan Funeral Chapel in Quinque, with interment in the Greer Family cemetery. The Rev. C.C. Kurtz will officiate.
