Marjorie N. Marinelli
Marjorie Newton Marinelli of Lake Monticello, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She was 77 years old.
She was born February 15, 1926, in Jackson, Mich., the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Newton.
She us survived by her husband of 55 years, Nicholas Marinelli; a son, David Marinelli of Highlands, N.J.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Michael Fox of Carrollton, Va.; another daughter, Susan Marinelli of Salisbury, Md.; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie and her husband were graduated of Bucknell University, were married
in New Jersey and lived there until they retired to Lake Monticello in 1994.
Marjorie and her husband were active in lake functions with their many dear friends, the Flotilla 88 Chorus, and the Second Wind Band at the Senior Center of Charlottesville. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the Lake Monticello Clubhouse.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer society, 3042 D. Berkmar Dr., Charlottesville, Va. 22901.

Aubrey A. Morris Sr.
Aubrey Allen Morris Sr., 74, of Stanardsville, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 14, 1928, in Albemarle County, a son of Mattie Morris of Stanardsville and the late Ernest Morris. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Grover Morris.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Odessa S. Morris of Stanardsville; three daughters, Margaret Ann Irving and her husband, Bobby, of Troy, Ernestine Racer and her husband, Shirley of Ruckersville, and Marilyn D. Morris of Stanardsville; three sons, Aubrey A. Morris Jr., and his fiancee, Ann Lloyd of Barboursville, Warren "Cotton" Morris and Milton Darrell Morris Sr., of Stanardsville; two sisters, Eleanor Collier of Charlottesville and Frances Buttner of Ruckersville; two brothers, Olen Morris and P.J. Morris of Ruckersville; six grandchildren, Tony Morris and Anthony Morris of Ruckersville, that lived with him, and Milton D. Morris Jr., Heather R. Racer, Amanda Racer and Shane Racer. Mr. Morris retired from Crouse-Hinds after 31 years and was an avid NASCAR fan.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ryan Funeral Home Chapel, Quinque, with interment in Evergreene cemetery. The Rev. David Allison will officiate.

Marjorie M. Tesar
Marjorie Murray Tesar, 91, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Martha Jefferson Hospital following a brief illness.
Born July 1, 1911, in England, she was the daughter of the late Florence and Herbert Murray. Her husband, Charles J. Tesar; daughter, Lynne Giller; and brother, John Murray preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Marthaler and son-in-law, Wayne of Keswick; four grandchildren, Todd Marthaler and his wife, Hope, of Draper, Utah, Tyler Marthaler and his wife, Kerstin, of San Francisco, Calif., Keri Giller and her husband, Robert Hanson, of Ankara, Turkey, and Kimberly Clark and her husband, Greg of Tampa, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Aldersgate Methodist Church.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to Lisa Knipple and all the staff at Our Lady of Peace.

Virginia C. Toms
Virginia Coleman Toms, 87, of Charlottesville, died Monday, March 31, 2003, in a local nursing home.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Broadus Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home.
Edgar Brown Sr.
Edgar William Franklin Brown, Sr., of Washington, D.C., went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 28, 2003.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 55 years, Ellen B. Brown; his daughter, Doris A. Donatien; son, Edgar Jr.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; one granddaughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; two sister-in-laws; and a host of family, friends and neighbors.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at the Beulah Baptist Church, 5820 Dix Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20019, at 11 a.m. Internment will take place at Quantico National cemetery, Quantico, Va.
Wade Davis Jr.
Wade Davis Jr., 79, of Aroda, died Monday, March 31, 2003, in the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born October 2, 1923, in Madison County and was the son of the late Wade H. Davis, and Irene Mallory Davis.
Mr. Davis was retired from Keller’s Manufacturing of Culpeper and was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Davis of Aroda; two daughters, Eleanor Marie Davis of Aroda and Delores A. Davis of Wolftown; a step-daughter, Debbie Hinegardner of Elkton; five brothers, Herbert W. Davis of Baltimore, Md., Earl F. Davis of Charlottesville, Archie B. Davis of Aroda, Shirley E. Davis of Ruckersville, and Billie L. Davis of Orange; two sisters, Mary Shifflett of Aroda and Marjorie Ann Foster of Pratts; and a step-granddaughter, Tiffiny Hinegardner. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Tanner Davis; a brother, Thomas J. Davis; and a sister, Hazel Rebecca Davis.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Madison, with interment in Walkers United Methodist Church cemetery. Military honors by Culpeper American Legion Post # 330 and Pastor Jeff Shifflett will officiate.
Frank W. Finger
Frank Whitney Finger, 87, died Monday, March 31, 2003.
Son of the Reverend Jacob and Elizabeth Lewis Finger, Dr. Finger was born April 16, 1915, in Naples, N.Y., educated in the public schools of Western New York, graduated from Syracuse University in 1936, received his Ph.D. in psychology from Brown University in 1940, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Baltimore in 1985. He was a member of the Psychology Department of the University of Virginia from March 1942, until his retirement in 1985, and was associated in various capacities with the University’s Department of Athletics. He also held appointments at Brown University, University of Wisconsin, Yale University, University of Sussex (England), and Canterbury University (New Zealand).
Immediate family members include his wife, Eleanor "Nell" Ford Varn Finger of Charlottesville; Allen Latane and Simone Flock Long of Batesville, Va.; Thomas McGavock Long of Claremont, Va.; Elizabeth Lewis Finger of Arcata, Calif.; Dr. William Whitney Finger and Dr. Kerry Lee Holland of Johnson City, Tenn.; Eleanor Ford Finger of Pullman, Wash.; and Louise Anderson Finger of Free Union, Va. Additional family members include six grandchildren, Jennifer Paige Long of Wakefield, Va.; Adrienne Nicole Long of Waverly, Va.; Amelia Nicole Stephenson of Arcata, Calif.; Matthew Allen Long and Sean Douglas Long of Batesville, Va.; Clay Orion Keniston-Finger, of Arcata, Calif.; and one great-granddaughter, Alayna Nicole Long, of Waverly, Va.
Dr. Finger was a longtime communicant of St. Paul’s Memorial Church. He was active in the American Psychological Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Virginia Psychological Association, and served as consultant for a number of federal agencies and professional journals. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and the Raven Society.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at St. Paul’s Memorial Church, Charlottesville. Burial will be private.

Everett E. Lawson Jr.
Everett Earl Lawson Jr., 72, of Stanardsville, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003, at his home.
He was born September 26, 1930, in Greene County, a son of the late Everett Earl Lawson Sr., and Lannie Lawson Raines. He was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Lawson.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Shifflett Lawson; a daughter, Jean Ayers and her husband, Thomas; a son, Greg Lawson and his wife Suzanne Lawson, all of Stanardsville; three grandchildren, Ashley Ayers, Betsy Lawson and Ben Lawson; two sisters, Darlene McGuffin and Sylvia Mallory of Stanardsville.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ryan Funeral Chapel in Quinque, with interment in the Greer Family cemetery. The Rev. C.C. Kurtz will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Herman Lewis
Funeral services for Herman Lewis, will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Union Baptist Church, Gordonsville with interment in Woodberry cemetery. The Rev. James T. Jackson will officiate.
Robert P. Lockwood
Reverend Robert Paul Lockwood, 54, of Schuyler, died Friday, March 28, 2003.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ramona Esther Lockwood; and a brother, David L. Lockwood.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie C. Lockwood; a daughter, April Lynn Lockwood of Schuyler; a son, Robert Christopher Lockwood of Verona; his parents, the Reverend Edwin Lockwood and Mary Lockwood of Grimstead, Va.; three brothers, Dr. William Lockwood of Newport News, the Reverend John Lockwood of Xenia, Ohio, and James Lockwood of Gloucester.
Reverend Lockwood served in the U.S. Air Force and was a graduate of Virginia State University. He received his Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary. He was a retired United Methodist minister who had served various churches in Virginia for 18 years.
He was interred privately at Scottsville cemetery. The Rev. Susan S. Garrett officiated.

Jean Gregory Miles
Jean Gregory Miles went to be with the Lord Jesus on April 1, 2003, after a 10 year battle with Chronic Myelogenous Lukemia. She was 61 years old.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dorlin and Christine Gregory. She was the wife of the Dr. Rev. Jimmie T. Miles. They were married
for 40 years.
She is also survived by her son, Jeffery B. Miles; daughter-in-law, L. Catherine Miles; grandson, Devin Thomas Miles, all of Richmond; sister, Nancy Gregory Martin and her husband, Jim Martin of Earlysville, Va.; and her brother, David E. Gregory and his wife, Pam of Troy, Va.
Mrs. Miles was active in Bon Air Baptist Church as a teacher in the Children’s Department, a volunteer with the Virginia Lukemia Society, a homemaker and was involved in arts and crafts, some of which are on display in Roanoke, Va. She loved family events and time spent with close friends. She was a devoted wife and an attentive and loving mother and grandmother.
The family will greet visitors at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be private, and a memorial service will be held at Bon Air Baptist Church Friday, April 4 at 1 p.m.
