Aubrey A. Morris Sr.

Aubrey Allen Morris Sr., 74, of Stanardsville, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 14, 1928, in Albemarle County, a son of Matte Morris of Stanardsville and the late Ernest Morris. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Morris.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Odessa S. Morris of Stanardsville; three daughters, Margaret Ann Irving and her husband, Bobby, of Troy, Ernestine Racer and her husband, Shirley of Ruckersville, and Marilyn D. Morris of Stanardsville; three sons, Aubrey A. Morris Jr., and his fiancée, Ann Lloyd of Barboursville, Warren "Cotton" Morris and Milton Darrell Morris Sr., of Stanardsville; two sisters, Lena Collier of Charlottesville and Frances Butter of Ruckersville; two brothers, Olen Morris and P.J. Morris of Ruckersville; six grandchildren, Tony Morris and Anthony Morris of Ruckersville, that lived with him, and Milton D. Morris Jr., Heather R. Morris, Amanda Racer and Shane Racer. Mr. Morris retired from Crosse-Hinds after 31 years and was an avid NASCAR fan.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Ryan Funeral Home Chapel, Quinque, with interment in Evergreene cemetery. The Rev. David Allison will officiate.

A special thanks from the family to the Rev. David Allison, Tammy Garrison and the staff at Trinity Mission.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Greene County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 302, Stanardsville, Va. 22973.

Adeline Shifflett

Adeline "Adieu" Shifflett, 90, died Monday March 31, 2003, at Evergreene Nursing Home in Stanardsville, Va.

Born in Spurs Point in Baltimore, Md., on December 8, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Albert Shifflett and Mandy Jane Shifflett. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Shifflett and Cecil Shifflett; and a sister, Reva Shifflett.

She is survived by her only child, Walter Shifflett Sr., of Orange County, Va., and his wife, Irene Shifflett. She is also survived by one sister, Lillian Morris of Afton; five grandchildren, Wanda, Pam, Walter Jr., Tammy and Porter; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Evergreen Nursing Home for their constant and continuous care for Adieu Shifflett.

A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Ryan Funeral Chapel, Quinque, with Pastor Wendell Lamb officiating. Interment icon will take place in Wyatt Mountain cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Marjorie M. Tesar

A memorial service for Marjorie M. Tesar will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Rio Rd., Charlottesville.

Virginia C. Toms

Virginia Coleman Toms, 87, of Charlottesville, died Monday, March 31, 2003.

Born March 17, 1916, in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late John Randolph and Nellie Thompson Coleman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hunter McKnight Toms; two brothers, Clayton and Randolph Coleman; and two sisters, Louise Coleman and Evelyn Stubbs.

She was a member of Meals on Wheels and Broadus Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Nell Warren and her husband, Dr. Laurence Warren of Hampton; three sisters, Marian Cooper of Charlottesville, Frances Lupton and Christine Wirt, both of Richmond; two brothers, Robert Coleman of Scottsville and Joseph Coleman of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Sherry Nicole Shrewsbury and her husband, Darrell, of Saluda, L. Allen Warren and his wife, Kendal, of Annapolis, Md., and Ashley Hunter Warren of Newport News.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Broadus Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Howell and the Rev. Bob Wheeler officiating. Interment icon will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.

Margaret Ella Wood

Margaret Ella Wood, 68, of Earlysville, Va., died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

She was born in Charlottesville, Va., the daughter of the late Lawrence and Christine Hurled Terrell Beck. She was the wife of Percy James Wood.

Margaret was a graduate of Burley High School. She was a daycare provider and the owner of Carr-Wood Childcare. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint; she was active in the Church Relief Society.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Percy James Wood; two sons, Dr. Frank Carr Jr., and his wife, Philemon, of Stamford, Conn., and Ralph Lincoln Carr and his wife, Yvette of Earlysville, Va.; two daughters, Angela Marie Carr Yates of Stamford, Conn., and her adopted daughter, Denise U. Turner of Charlottesville, Va.; one brother, Benjamin Terrell and his wife, Ester of Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Shirley Winters of Cherry Hill, N.J., and June Whitely of Norfolk, Va.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, six nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at First Baptist Church, Seventh and Main Street, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Beard officiating. Interment icon will follow in Riverview cemetery.

Viewing will be at J. F. Bell Funeral home on Wednesday from 12 noon until 7 p.m.

Wilbur H. Anderson

Wilbur Harry Anderson was born to the late Marie Christopher Anderson and Henry Lee Anderson on May 7, 1957 in Bremo Bluff, Va. He peacefully slipped into eternity on Monday, June 9, 2003, at 6:15 p.m. at his home in Lanham, Md.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Cynthia Jackson Anderson; two sons, Christopher Wilbur and Israel Giles Anderson; his father, Henry L. Anderson; three sisters, Priscilla Mickens, of Charlottesville, Va., Diana Washington, of Troy, Va., and Maxine Ward, of Woodbridge, Va.; seven brothers, Henry Jr., Terry Lee, Lester, Ralph, all of Charlottesville, Va., Paul, of Fork Union, Va., Sherman, of Bremo Bluff, Va., and Sylvester, of Newark, N.J.; six sisters-in-laws, Regina Conway, Diane Douglas, Joyce, Deborah, Dora, and Rita Anderson; and four brothers-in-laws, Herrett Washington, Andrew Ward, Randy Jackson and Giles Jackson; his mother-in-law, Rosa Jackson; and father-in-law, Frank Jackson. He also leaves a host of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at The Cloverdale Baptist Church on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 3 p.m. Please forward any cards or expressions of Love to Cynthia Anderson. For more information call Diana Washington at 434-589-5083.

Doris Elliott Beer

Doris Elliott Beer, 89, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at her granddaughter’s home in Gordonsville, Va.

Mrs. Beer was born July 2, 1913 in Baltimore, Md., and was the daughter of the late William Henry Baines Elliott and Edna Kreutzer Elliott of Tydings-on–the-Bay, Md., and the widow of the late Eugene Henry Beer Jr., of Baltimore, Md.

She is survived by her loving children, Sally B. Murray, of Baltimore, Md., Susan B. Browne and her husband, Henry J. Browne, of Boca Grande, Fla., and Eugene H. Beer III., and his wife, Reda B. Beer, of Wilmington, Del.; and her grandchildren, Rebecca Reed Lynch and her husband, Steven E. Lynch, Sally Talbot Murray, Linda Murray Ruiz and her husband, Jason C. Ruiz, George Paul Beer and his wife, Gail A. Beer, Eugene Henry Beer IV., and his wife, Phyllis E. Beer; and four great-grandchildren, Fentress Reed Lynch, Ashley Harrison Bradberry, Austin Henry Beer, and Andrew Charles Beer.

Mrs. Beer was a graduate of Forest Park High School and Towson State Teachers’ College. She then had a successful modeling career in Chicago and New York before returning to Baltimore. Mrs. Beer was a chairwoman and board member of the Three Arts Club of Homeland and the Women’s Association of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She also was on the committee for the first Heart Ball, and was chair of the Maryland Children’s Aid Society’s "Baby Lift" program. She volunteered in many roles at the Bryn Mawr School and The Church of the Redeemer. She was also a member of the Baltimore Country Club, Maryland Yacht Club and Gibson Island Club. For eighteen years, Mrs. Beer worked in the office of the Attorney General of Maryland. She retired to Gordonsville, Va., in 1996 to be close to family.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at Christ Episcopal Church in Gordonsville, Va., and at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June, 17 in the chapel at the Church of the Redeemer in Baltimore, Md.

The family will receive friends and family at their home after the services.

Mildred N. Counts

Mildred Thelma Nitz Counts, 79, of Mineral, formerly of Tazewell, Va., passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in an Arlington Virginia Hospital.

Born November 9, 1923 in Macomas, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry Nitz and Eula Fern Pennington Nitz and wife of the late Vernon Clifton Counts of 57 years.

She is survived by a son, Vernon Michael Counts and his wife, Karen, of Richmond; five daughters, Nancy Carol Little, of Mineral, Judy Lane Yanta and her husband, Bill, of Riverdale, Md., Margaret Vernette Obradovic and her husband, Tom, of West River, Md., Vickie Fern Hoops and her husband, Allen, of Tazewell, Va., Rita Hope Counts and her husband, Don Dilks, of Edgewater, Md.; five grandsons, Timothy and Thomas Johnson, Stacy and Michael Hoops, and Ryan Counts; three granddaughters, Mildred Kay Robison, Esther Crescenzi and Christina Conte Cox; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Jr., and Ernest Nitz; two half-brothers, Thomas J. and Walter Ralph Nitz; a sister, Elizabeth Mae Nitz; and a half-sister, Sarah Nitz Crawford.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, June 13, 2003, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with interment at Holy Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, Va. Pastor Herb Cadle will officiate.

Iola Perry Farrar

A memorial service for Iola Perry Farrar will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Fifth Street Extended with Mr. Kenneth Thomas officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Kingdom Hall.

Teague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Halsey W. Kent II

Halsey W. Kent II., also known as "Squire" Kent, 72, of Advance Mills, Va., formerly of Short Hills, N.J., passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Halsey was born November 27, 1930 in New Jersey to Halsey and Esther Kent.

He is survived by two sons, Chaney S. and Jason S. Kent; daughter-in-law, Betty J. Kent; and two grandchildren, Grace Anne and Chaney S. Kent Jr.

Halsey attended The University of Virginia from 1949 to 1954. Halsey had several different occupations throughout his life, first and foremost was the raising of his two children. His most recent occupation was at Oyster House Antiques in Charlottesville, Va.

He spent most of his life in Short Hills, N.J., until recently moving to Virginia in 1998 to be closer to his family. He will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and loving individual.

Memorial services will be held at Christ Church in Short Hills, N.J., on Monday, June 16, 2003 at 10:30 a.m.

June M. Kildea

A funeral mass for June Marian Kildea will be held today, June 13, at 10 a.m. at St. George’s Catholic Church, Scottsville, Va. with interment following in the church cemetery.

Welford B. Morris

Welford B. Morris entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 9, 2003, at Providence Hospital.

His parents, Harry and Nancy Morris and his brother, Dr. Harry Morris Jr., preceded him in death.

Mr. Morris is survived by two sisters, Alberta Catlett, of Gordonsville, Va., and Pauline Banton, of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother, Richard Morris of Baltimore, Md.; one sister-in-law, Claudine Morris; a god-daughter, Christina Lyon; one very special nephew, Michael Warren; a best friend, Harold Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Family will receive friends at 12 noon until time of service at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Gordonsville, Va. Interment icon will take place in the church cemetery.

Preddy Funeral Home, Gordonsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Audre M. Rothamel

Audre¢ M. Rothamel, 82, of Palmyra, Va., died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the Colonnades in Charlottesville, Va.

Born October 9, 1920 in Queens County, N.Y., to the late Fredrick and Jennie Mohr. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Rothamel; and sisters, Alice Mohr and Jean Schmidt.

Mrs. Rothamel is a retired secretary with Middle Country Central School District #11, Centereach, N.Y. She was a member of Barbershop Belles and a former member of the Second Wind band of the Albemarle Senior Center. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlottesville, Va.

She is survived by her sons, Steven Rothamel and his wife, Sue, of Chittenango, N.Y., Raymond Rothamel and his wife, Sheryl Maningo, of Keeseville, N.Y. and Lawrence Rothamel and his wife, Nina, of Palmyra, Va.; five grandchildren, Matthew Rothamel, Rebecca Conklin, Daniel Rothamel, Elisabeth LeMerle-Snyder and Bryan Rothamel.

She will always be remembered as a proud woman who was most proud of her family and many friends. We know that as she enters the House of the Lord, the love she shared on earth will continue to guide all of those whose lives she touched.

The family will receive friends today, June 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home, Charlottesville.

A funeral service of praise and thanksgiving will be held on Saturday, June 14, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Rod Houppert officiating.
