Trenton F. Lamb

Trenton Foster "Fuzzy" Lamb, 66, of Palmyra, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at his home.

Born February 8, 1937, in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late Claude R. and Louise Morris Lamb. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin Lamb, Dallas Lamb and Nelson Lamb; and one grandchild, Devin Michael Scammahorn.

Fuzzy was an avid sports fan and hunter.

He is survived by two daughters, Teresa Meyer and Melissa Lamb; five sons, Vince Lamb, Kevin Lamb, Derek Lamb, Dustin Lamb and Dexter Lamb; two sisters, Violet Jones and Margie Eubanks; one brother, Tom Lamb; and eight grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Monticello Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.

Fuzzy’s children would like to thank their mother, Patricia for all her love and support.

Donald S. McGann

Donald Sterling McGann, 45, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at his home in Nellysford.

Born in Nelson County on June 10, 1958, he was a son of Phyllis McGann Flanagan of Nellysford and Donald McGann of Stuarts Draft.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Jessie Frazier McGann; two sons, Jeremy Michael McGann and his wife, Sandy, of Waynesboro, and Logan Sterling McGann of Nellysford; a sister, Regina Shifflett and her husband, Gregory, and their children, Brooke and Ryan, also of Nellysford; a twin brother, Jeff Ross McGann of Nellysford and his son, Brandon of Afton; two half-brothers, Chris McGann and Ricky Berry, a half-sister, Pam Royer, all of Stuarts Draft, his paternal grandmother, Thelma McGann of Nellysford; step-mother, Shirley McGann of Stuarts Draft; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Sterling was a devoted husband and father who loved his family. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with wood. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, Roseland, by Pastor Robert Mansfield with burial on the McGann property in Stoney Creek. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the social hall of Beech Grove Christian Church.

Honorary flower bearers will be, David McGann, Joel Falls, Beau Ryan, Greg Shifflett, Wayne Fitzgerald, Warren Fitzgerald, Chris McGann, Bob Hunt, Billy Gormes, Carl Sites, Darrell Stevens, Steve Durkee, Justin Durkee, Brandon Durkee, John Hincle, Jimmy McGann, Freddie McGann, Brian Alexander, Justin Crimi, Rodney McCalester, Delane Fitzgerald, Ricardo Salles, Jeff Ferguson and Mike Hull.

Richard E. Neville Jr.

Funeral services for Richard Ervin Neville Jr., will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with interment in Graham cemetery. The Rev. Scott Hennessy will officiate.

Elizabeth W. Pollard

Elizabeth Wood Pollard, 93, of the Wake Forest Community departed this life on Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Heritage Hall.

She was born March 7, 1910, in Albemarle County, the daughter of the late Isaac Wood and Bessie Jones Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Pollard.

Three brothers, Lloyd Wood, Willie Wood and Isaac Wood, II preceded her in death.

She was a member of Blue Ridge Temple #67 Daughters of Elk; and a faithful member of Wake forest Baptist church who actively served in many capacities until her illness. Elizabeth was a superb cook and especially enjoyed welcoming and entertaining family and friends in her home.

Her survivors include one sister Mamie W. Jackson of Wake Forest community; three nieces, Evelyn Watkins of Charlottesville, Virginia, Elizabeth Wynter of Long Island, New York; and Patricia Pollard, of Hampton, Virginia; four nephews, Isaac C.L. Wood of Augusta, Georgia, Raymond Pollard of Newport News, Virginia, and Herman Pollard of New London, Connecticut; one sister-in-law, Thelma C. Wood of Huntington, West Virginia; a devoted great niece, Glenda J. Best of Palmyra, Virginia; and a number of loving great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Today, at Wake Forest Baptist Church, with the Rev. Collins officiating and the Rev. R.A. Hailes will deliver the eulogy. Interment icon will follow in the church cemetery.

J.F. Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn H. Scruggs

A graveside funeral service for Kathryn "Kitty" Hunt Scruggs will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Monticello Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Charlottesville/Albemarle Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 160, Charlottesville, Va. 22902 or the SPCA, P.O. Box 7047, Charlottesville, Va. 22906.

Pauline T. Stewart

A funeral service for Mrs. Stewart will be held at 2 p.m. today at Antioch Baptist Church, Scottsville, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Judge E. Gerald Tremblay

Retired Judge E. Gerald Tremblay passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, June 19, 2003.

Judge Tremblay was born October 4, 1922 in Nashua, New Hampshire. His wife Eleanor Wade Tremblay, to whom he was married for 55 years, survives him. Together they raised 6 children, four of who have survived his passing, Wade& Michele Tremblay of Charlottesville, Richard and Susan Tremblay of Fredericksburg, Catherine Tremblay of Richmond, and Robert and Martha Tremblay of Davidson, NC. He will be lovingly remembered as well by his nine grandchildren: Doran, Mariel, Rachel, Catherine, Laura, John, Gerald, Matthew, and Gillian. In addition to his family, the Judge leaves is special friends and caregivers Bob Romanac, Mary Dunn, and Edith Phillips, as well as his beloved dog, Travis.

Judge Tremblay will be recalled as an enthusiastic friend, who placed great value and emphasis on his faith, his family, our great country, and this wonderful community of Charlottesville. Called to serve his country in 1942, he saw combat in the Central Pacific in 1944 as a marine fighter pilot. Following the end of the war, he visited Charlottesville with a friend, and subsequently enrolled in the University. While a student, he met and later married Eleanor Wade. After earning his undergraduate and law degrees, he was recalled to duty in the Korean conflict where he served a second tour of duty flying close air support missions for his fellow Marines. He later retired from the reserves after more than 25 years of service.

Upon returning to Charlottesville in 1953, Judge Tremblay began to practice law and raise his family. Until 1982 when he took a seat in the 16th Judicial Circuit, he was active in a wide variety of professional and community activities including serving as president of the Charlottesville Rotary Club, the United Way, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. Following an eight-year term as circuit court judge, he retired to pursue his numerous sporting and creative interests.

Hill & Wood Funeral Home, and St. Thomas Aquinas Church are in charge of the arrangements.

Judge E. Gerald Tremblay

Funeral services for Retired Judge E. Gerald Tremblay will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, followed by the burial at Monticello Memory Gardens. A celebration of his life will follow at the family’s home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 207 Ridge St., Charlottesville, Va. 22902.

Mildred B. Burton

Mildred Black Burton, 91, of Crozet, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Morningside University Village.

Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home, Crozet, are incomplete.

Adelaide A. Grant

Adelaide Alma Burg Grant, 85, widow of Mangus B. Grant, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, in the Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge, Charlottesville.

She was born September 28, 1917, in Chicago, Il., daughter of Johannes "John" and Augusta Riske Burg.

Prior to retirement, she was employed by Ingleside Hotel for many years. She was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church and member of the Diabetes Support Group with the University of Virginia.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene B. Sheinfeld.

Survivors include granddaughters, Gillian G. Sheinfeld and Rachael L. Sheinfeld, both of Charlottesville; son-in-law, Howard Sheinfeld of Charlottesville; step-son, Ralph Grant of Hazel Crest, Il.; step-daughter-in-law, Marie Grant; step-son, Ronald Grant of Arizona; step-daughter, Jean Sheetz of Woodstock; and sister-in-law, Lucretia Keister of Staunton.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery by Chaplain David Flack and the Rev. Kenneth Price.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, in the Henry Funeral Home, Staunton.

Family and friends will assemble at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Henry Funeral Home and travel in a procession to the cemetery.

Deloris Ann Hester

Deloris Ann Hester, 62, of Charlottesville, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late James Brown and Gladys Hannsberry. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert A. Taylor; her step-father, Charles Hannsberry; and a brother, Charles Hester.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Edward and Robert Hester; four daughters, Virginia, Barbara, Robin and Stephanie Hester; two brothers, Robert and Leroy Hester; one sister, Mary P. Hester, all of Charlottesville; five grandchildren; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Main Street, with Evangelist Gilda Jackson officiating. Interment icon will follow at Riverview cemetery.

Services of comfort are entrusted to the staff of McClenny Funeral Service, Inc. R.B. and Doris A. McClenny Morticians.

Lucy D. Beasley

Lucy David Beasley, 68, of Newark, N.J., died Friday, August 1, 2003, at Bethisral Medical Center, Newark, N.J.

Born October 5, 1934, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. Davis and Zadie Winkey Davis.

She is survived by her husband, Leroy "Willie" Beasley; four sons, Ronald, Bryant, Welford, and Calvin Beasley, all of Newark, N.J.; one daughter, Mrs. Denise B. Wallace and husband, Dwight, of Phillipsburg, N.J.; one sister, Mrs. Doris D. Brock and husband, Alfred, of Maryland; one brother, Matthew "Mack" Davis and wife, Cynthia, of Barboursville; three grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, two sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2003, at Blue Run Baptist Church in Barboursville with interment in Davis Family cemetery, Rt. 20, west of Barboursville. The Rev. Peggy Brice will officiate.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville is in charge of arrangements.

Betsy Carpenter

Betsy Carpenter, 64, of Gordonsville, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at the Cedars Nursing Home in Charlottesville.

Born June 27, 1939, in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late Ralph Frankhouser and the late Violet Yassell Frankhouser.

Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Blue Ridge Shores Baptist Church and employed at Chick-Fil-A of Charlottesville, and a friend of Gordonsville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, John Mike Carpenter of Hunington, Md., Pat Carpenter of Pasadena, Md., and Paul Carpenter of Orange; one sister, Terry Skovera of Lancaster; five grandchildren, John Mike Carpenter Jr., Aaron Carpenter, Daniel Carpenter, Stephen Carpenter and Tracy Carpenter.

She was preceded in death in death by a sister, Patsy Berera, and a son, Steven Carpenter.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. from the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Orange, with interment in the Walkers United Methodist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Don Reid and the Rev. Marilyn Spencer.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Shores Baptist Church, Louisa, Va. 28098; or the American Cancer Society 4240 Park Place Crt. 5, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

Dorothy G. Cason

Dorothy Elizabeth Gianniny Atkins Cason, 77, of Charlottesville, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, in a local hospital.

Born October 3, 1925, in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late Horace Gianniny and Sarah Durham Gianniny. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Lewis Atkins, in 1973 and her second husband, Leslie Cason; and a sister, Edith Hughes.

Mrs. Cason had retired from City Dry Cleaners after 47 years of service and was a member of Belmont Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Joan Blackwell and her husband, Dan, of Simpsonville, S.C., Linda Guin and her husband, Thomas, of Orange, Texas, Andrew Atkins Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Gregory Atkins and his wife, Lisa, of Charlottesville; her stepchildren, Leslie M. Cason and his wife, Shelby, of Gloucester Point, Shirley Mottley and her husband, Dale, of Prospect, Va., Margie Davis and her husband, Ronnie, of Earlysville, and Lois Gilbert of Stanardsville; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2003, in the chapel of the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
