William P. Heath Jr.
William P. Heath Jr. of Heathsville, Va., passed away at his home on Monday, August 25, 2003, after a battle with cancer. Mr. Heath was born in Esmont, Albemarle County, Va., July 4, 1934, and was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Esmont.
He obtained his degree in textile technology from Clemson University in 1956, and went to Washington, D.C., as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent Office, after serving with the U.S. Army, attaining rank of lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps, he attended law school at American University, Washington, D.C., graduating in 1962. Following law school he worked at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama for the Army Missile Command and then worked for International Playtex. In 1966, he joined the Patent Section of Eastman Kodak Co. in Kingsport, Tenn., and retired from there as Assistant General Counsel in the Legal Dept. in 1994.
Mr. Heath was an avid saltwater fisherman, living on the Chesapeake Bay for a number of years after his retirement.
Preceding him in death was his father, William P. Heath Sr., and sister Estelle Boyce Heath Fortune.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Wyrick Heath, four sons, Brian S. Heath of Heathsville, Va., William E. Heath of Rockwood Tenn., Brent A. Heath and Lindsay A Heath, both of Esmont, Va.; his mother, Estelle Boyce Heath and sister Mary Foushee heath Booth, both of Richmond, Va.; one grandson, one granddaughter, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Heath’s request, his body was cremated and interred in Scottsville cemetery, Scottsville, Va. Complying with his wishes, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2003, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, with the Rev. Dr. J. Edwin Pippin officiating (please omit flowers). Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville is in charge of arrangements.
Jane L. Holt
Jane Louise Holt, 69, of Charlottesville, died Saturday evening, August 23, 2003, at her home.
Born October 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Paul W. Dudley, Sr. and Blanche H. Dudley. A brother, Paul W. Dudley, Jr. and a sister, Elizabeth A. Hoy, also preceded her in death.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, which she attended regularly, and found a new family in everyone she met there. She was talented in many ways with only a 10th grade education, but later received her GED. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and using her woodworking tools to build whatever she wanted. Her biggest love was her birds. She bought and sold many kinds.
Jane accomplished much in her life. She and her husband built Mountain View Adult Home on Carlton Avenue and ran it for several years and before that for a number of years she took care of many sick people in her home, one of which was Anastasia, the Grand Duchess of Russia.
She will be missed by everyone, especially her two best friends, her husband, Sonny, and her dog, Harry.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Fred "Sonny" Holt, a daughter, Vicki C. Branham and her husband Glenn, all of Charlottesville; a granddaughter, Amy S. Bishop and her husband Lee of Palmyra; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Toms, also of Palmyra; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at the Hill & Wood Chapel with Pastor Wendell Lamb and Dr. Joel P. Jenkins officiating. Interment
will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Blanche T. Marshall
Blanche Taylor Marshall, 83, of Madison, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2003, at a Culpeper hospital.
She was born August 20, 1920, in Madison County, daughter of the late Willie Guy and Bessie Kirtley Taylor. Her husband was the late Clarence B. Marshall. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Maxine Beverly of Bedford, Va.; three sons, Bobby F. Marshall and wife Mary of Stanardsville, Charles B. Marshall and wife Alice of Madison, and Edwin Wayne Marshall and wife Pat of Barboursville; seven grandsons, Percy Beverly, Mark Beverly, Keith Beverly, Charles Marshall, Anthony Marshall, Chris Marshall, and Robbie Marshall, a granddaughter, Stephanie Anderson, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Lizzie Taylor of Madison also survives.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Ryan Funeral Chapel in Quinque, with Pastor Jeffrey Shifflett officiating. Interment
will be in the Shiloh Brethren cemetery.
Samuel Mimms, Jr.
Samuel Edward Mimms, Jr., 74, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, August 24, at his residence.
Born March 22, 1929, in Danville, he was the son of the late Samuel Edward and Mary Sue Gentry Mimms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Michael Mimms, a brother, Edward Thomas Mimms and an infant sister, Mary Ellen Mimms.
Mr. Mimms retired from the Equifax Corporation in 1989 after 43 years of service.
He is survived by six children, Brenda Gail Mimms, Kathryn Mary Mimms Mews, Tracy Carolyn Mimms, Stephen Douglas Mimms, John Leslie Mimms and Edward Paul Mimms; one sister, Elsie Lee Barnes; one brother, Bobby Wayne Mimms; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several aunts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2003, at the Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville. A reception will be held at the Elks Lodge on Elk Drive from 5 to 7 p.m. with Elks Rights at 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charlottesville/Albemarle Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Josephine L. Roebuck
Josephine Lewis Roebuck, 62, of Radiant, passed away Friday, August 22, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Born February 10, 1941, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Richard Vinston Lewis and the late Bessie Hill Lewis. She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Stephen Roebuck. She is survived by daughters, Diane Roebuck Nixon and husband Ricky of Sterling, Pamela Roebuck Morris and husband Junius of Charlottesville; sons, Michael Anthony Roebuck and wife Tina of Woodbridge, Harry Roebuck III and wife Ann, and Kenneth Gregory Roebuck, all of Charlottesville; brother, Douglas E. Lewis of Pittsburg, Pa.; sisters, Marlene P. Lewis and Doris Lewis Hill and husband Elder Luther Hill, all of Aroda; a number of cousins and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 28, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Radiant. Elder Luther Hill will officiate. Interment
will be private at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Rudolph Aston Sacra of Charlottesville passed away Friday, August 22, 2003, at his residence.

will follow at 1 p.m. in the Hillcrest cemetery in Louisa.
Jerry L. Saunders
Jerry Lee Saunders, 61, of Arrington, died Sunday, August 24, 2003, at his residence after a brief illness. Jerry was born June 7, 1942, in Arrington, son of the late Lester Alexander Saunders Jr. and Mary Oakley Saunders. He was an active member of Woodland Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and was the owner of Colleen Exxon and Drive Inn and the J.L. Saunders and Sons Construction Co. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved farming.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Nancy Umbarger Saunders, his sons, Jerry Lee Saunders Jr. and wife Sabrina and Robert Lester Saunders and wife Lisa, all of Arrington. Two grandchildren, Laura and Danielle Saunders, a brother, Larry D. Saunders and wife Carole of Arrington; a sister Mary Leslie Bailey and husband Jack of Eatonton, Ga.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Annie Umbarger of Arrington, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Woodland Baptist Church in Colleen with the Rev. David Blevins officiating with interment in the Woodland Memorial cemetery. Dorothy D. Stacks, 78, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, August 24, 2003, in a local hospital. Dorothy was born on April 4, 1925, in Charlottesville, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Frances Flowers Diggs, her husband, Purvis L. Stacks, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen S. Anderson and her husband, Robert O. Anderson Jr., of Troy, Ellen Stacks of Sterling, Va.; and a son, Purvis L. Stacks Jr. and his wife, Stacy Stacks, of Arlington, Va.; also surviving are two grandchildren, Lee Anderson and Landon Gilliland, and a sister, Sarah A. Tate.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Riverview cemetery.

Dorothy B. Taylor, 57, of Stanardsville, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2003, in a Charlottesville hospital.

Margaret G. Turner, 71, died August 23, 2003, in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held today at First Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Prior to the service, a program of Margaret’s favorite music will be presented by organist Jeff LeDuc. A reception will follow the service in the Chapel. Burial will be private.
Dan Rea Woodson
Dan Rea Woodson, 86, of Crozet, died at Mountainside Senior Living on August 25, 2003. He was born on January 9, 1917, in Albemarle County to the late Albert Shelton Woodson and Ethel Rea Woodson.
He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth W. Pugh of Crozet; two nieces, Ethel Rea Pugh of Crozet, Bettie Ann Stanerson and husband Ron of Silver Springs, Md.; three great-nieces and seven great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was a lifelong member of Hillsboro Baptist Church, and a World War II and Korean War veteran, Navy Fleet Reserve, and a member of the VFW.

Elizabeth P. Palmore
Elizabeth Pearl Palmore, 87, of Columbia, died Sunday, August 24, 2003, in a Charlottesville Nursing Home.
She was born May 4, 1916, in Goochland County and was the widow of Curtis Winfree Palmore Sr., she was also preceded in death by a son, Winfred Snead Palmore.
She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church of Columbia, Va.
Survivors include one son, Curtis Winfree Palmore Jr., and his wife, Debbie of Kents Store; five grandchildren, Kelly Dawn Palmore, Brandy Lee Palmore, Michelle Dillard, Angie Shanholtz and Christopher Flanagan, and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at the Columbia Memorial cemetery conducted by the Rev. William Bess. Family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at the Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store.
Stanley S. Rader
Stanley Spencer Rader, 68, of Charlottesville, died Saturday August 23, 2003. Born in Ashland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harold Glen Melvin Rader and Beatrice Ekey Rader.
Mr. Rader received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio. His professional career included teaching physical education in Ferndale, Michigan, Ohio and in the Philippines.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn LaFon Rader, two daughters, Beth Rader and Jennifer Giacalone, and her husband Joby, two grandchildren, all of Charlottesville; a sister Penny Sweeterman and her husband Dennis, of Strongsville, Ohio.
A memorial service and reception will be held Wednesday August 27, 2003, at 4 p.m., at St. Mark Lutheran Church; 100 Alderman Road.
