Leroy Maddox
Leroy Maddox, husband of the former Madeline Quarles, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in a Bronx, N.Y., hospital.
Besides his devoted wife, Madeline Maddox, he is survived by a sister who lives in Ohio; a sister-in-law, Bernice E. Quarles of Gordonsville; a brother-in-law, Robert W. Quarles of Gordonsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A local funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Gordonsville, with the Rev. Marvin Jackson officiating.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service, with interment in the church cemetery.

Florence B. Mortlock
A memorial service for Florence Bellaby Mortlock will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at the Teague Chapel. Private interment was held in Delaware. Marion F. Rich
Marion Elizabeth "Betty" Falck Rich, 81, of Charlottesville, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in a local hospital.
Born April 30, 1922, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Depue Falck and Helen Bichsel Falck.
A 1943 graduate of Stanford University with a bachelor of arts degree in history, Marion was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she had been a resident until 1991 before moving to Charlottesville. She dedicated her life to being a caring wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Arnold Rich Jr. of Charlottesville; a daughter, Nancy Bosworth and her husband, Dennis, of Preston, Idaho; three sons, James A. Rich and his wife, Pascale, of Paris, France, George F. Rich and his wife, Karen, of Charlottesville, and Thomas F. Rich and his wife, Suzanne, of Lexington, Mass.; a brother, George Falck and his wife, Nancy, of Fairfax; and 11 grandchildren.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Charlottesville-Piedmont Chapter, P.O. Box 4634, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
Services are private.

Clarence E. Holt
Clarence E. Holt, 90, of Scottsville, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004.
He is survived by a brother, Campbell F. Holt of The Colonnades, Charlottesville; two nephews, Michael P. O'Feild and his wife, Ruth, of Scottsville and Ross Haine and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lexington; three great-nephews, Scott, Holt and Hunter Haine.
The family will receive friends 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville. A graveside memorial service will follow at 3:15 p.m. at Scottsville cemetery with the Rev. Dale E. Gillis officiating.

Ethel Mae Oxford
Ethel Mae Oxford, 69, of 145 Hampton Drive, Stuarts Draft, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville.
She was born June 22, 1934, in Rogers, AR daughter of James Dean and Ethel Jones Dean.
She graduated from Rogers High School, and attended St. John's School of Nursing in Tulsa, OK where she received her Registered Nursing Degree.
Mrs. Oxford worked for Rogers Memorial Hospital in Rogers, Ark., St. Agnes Hospital and Fresno General Hospital in Fresno, Calif., Leader Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa. and Piney Mountain Nursing Home in Chambersburg where she was Director of Nursing.
She was a member of Morningstar United Methodist Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Ruth Cecelia Oxford; and two brothers.
Surviving are her husband, Milford T. Oxford of Stuarts Draft; two sons, Michael Oxford and his wife, Mary Wall, Phd, of Lexington, Gary Oxford and his wife, Rosemary, of Charlottesville; four grandchildren, Benjamin and Claire Oxford of Lexington, Samuel and Gerald Oxford of Charlottesville; and two brothers, James Dean of Bentonville, Ark., and Robert Dean of Fla.
A service will be conducted at a later date in Springdale, Ark.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Cecelia Oxford Fund, c/o the Systems Engineering Department of the University of Virginia.

Virginia W. Patterson
Virginia Wimbish Patterson, 88, of Winter Park, Fla., died Monday, Dec 15, 2003.
Born in Stuart, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary N. Wimbish. She was a long time resident of Charlottesville, unitl 1990.
She is survived by her brother, Allan Wimbish of Virginia Beach; her son, Lewis Patterson of Wexford, Pa.; her daughter, Ann Maheu of Windermere, Fla.; her daughter, Carol Strang of E. Lyme, Conn.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Monticello Memory Gardens at a future date.
Ethel Jackson Payne
Ethel Jackson Payne, 95, of Palmyra, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2004, in Charlottesville.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the Union Baptist Church, Palmyra. Interment
will be in the church cemetery.

George T. Weaver
George Thomas Weaver, 92, to Oak Park, Madison County died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at the Orange County Nursing Home.
He was born on June 30, 1911, in Oak Park.
He was the son of the late John Smith and Loula Kipps Weaver. His wife was the late Elizabeth Virginia "Polly" Jenkins Weaver. Mr. Weaver was a retired farmer, Graduate of Orange County High School, class of 1929, and a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include, two nephews, H. Clay Penn Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Oak Park and Hugh Edward Weaver and wife, Iva of Oak Park and a niece, Frances Weaver Mason of Culpeper.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2004, from the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Orange with interment at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery in Oak Park. The Rev. Barry Penn Hollar will officiate.

J. Troy Williamson
James Troy Williamson, 58, of Crozet died Jan. 8, 2004, at a local hospital.
Born May 13, 1945, he was the son of James Daniel Williamson of Hampton, and the late Mabel Plum Waters Williamson.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Williamson, of Crozet; a daughter, Michelle Ryalls and her husband, Chris, of Richmond; a son, Scott (Cub) Williamson of Crozet; two grandchildren, Rebekah, Morgan Ryalls, and Hunter Ryalls due on May 19, 2004; one brother, Gerald Williamson and his wife, Ann, of Crozet; two sisters, Nancy Starmer of Newport News and Linda Balzer of Crozet; a step-sister, Frances Tweddy and her husband, Charles, of Hampton and many nieces and nephews.
He was a general clerk in the personnel department at the Charlottesville Post Office, and worked part-time for Jaunt Bus Service. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Cornerstone Church of Albemarle in Crozet.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the Cornerstone Church of Albemarle, 470 Twinkling Springs Road, Crozet. The Rev. John Quesberry and the Rev. Bob French will be officiating.

Rachel M. Drummond
Mrs. Rachel Minter Drummond, 93, of Tryon, N.C., formerly of Richmond, passed away Jan. 1, 2004.
She was the daughter of the late Henry Bernard Minter and Cora Blanche Cobb of Shores, Va.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Bernard Minter, also of Tryon.
Mrs. Drummond, a registered nurse, retired from Richmond Memorial Hospital and leaves numerous loving cousins and dear friends to cherish her memory.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Seays Chapel United Methodist Church.

Kenneth Fields
Kenneth "Ken" Fields, 71, of Troy, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at his home.
Born on Dec. 1, 1932, in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Bill and Fannie Taylor Fields.
Ken served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for 22 years with the Virginia Department of Corrections as a sergeant at the old Camp No. 12 in Troy. Ken was most notably known as a man who could do and fix just about anything.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sylvia Cox Fields; one daughter, Deb Graham and her husband, Mark, of Barboursville; four sons, Kenney Fields and his wife, Sandra, of Troy, 1st Sgt. Larry Fields and his wife, Mary Ann, of Charlottesville, Mike Fields and his wife, Ginny, of Palmyra, and Joe Fields and his wife, Brooke, of Charlottesville; one brother, Bobby Fields and his wife, Betty, of Gum Springs; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Hunter officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 this evening.

Jack Franklin Hale
Jack Franklin Hale of Charlottesville died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, in a local hospital. Arrangements with Teague Funeral Home are incomplete.
William E. Kincannon
William E. Kincannon, 57, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, in his home in Melbourne Fla.
Mr. Kincannon was born on Nov. 25, 1946, in Richmond. Bill spent his early childhood years at Spring Valley Farm in Apple Grove. In 1957, Mr. Kincannon moved to Melbourne, Fla., where he graduated from Melbourne High School. He attended Florida Institute Technology and the University of South Carolina.
Mr. Kincannon worked 18 years for Allied Concrete in Charlottesville and Zion Crossroads. Bill was materials manager at the time of his retirement in 2002. During most of his years in Charlottesville, Bill resided at Lake Monticello and enjoyed volunteering with the Lake Monticello Rescue Squad. Following his retirement, Bill returned to Melbourne, where he lived with his sister, Linda.
Mr. Kincannon is survived by his siblings, Charles D. Kincannon of Charlottesville, Katrine Crow of Newport News, Linda Dawson and Mark Kincannon of Melbourne, Fla., Darrell Stevens and Elaine Hatcher of Palm Bay, Fla. His mother, Mattie Kincannon, and father, Roy Kincannon, preceded him in death.
Bill had many years of enjoyment with his extended family: Lt. Col. Howard K. Alberts, his children, and the late Alice Alberts at Belle Monte Farms in Louisa County.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Joseph May for his care.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Hillcrest cemetery in Louisa. Friends and family are also invited to gather at the home of Chuck Kincannon in Keswick at 1 p.m., following the services for a celebration of Bill’s life.
