Horace L. Lohr
Horace Leslie Lohr, 84, of Madison, died Monday, March 29, 2004, in the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville.
He was born April 16, 1919, in Madison County and was the son of the late Elmer T. Lohr and Ethel Harrison Lohr.
Horace owned and operated the Madison General Store until 1990, when he retired. He was a faithful member of the Madison United Methodist Church and served for four and a half years in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Geraldine Lillard Lohr; one son, John Elmer Lohr and his special friend, Trisha Doggett; one daughter, Jane Lohr Gibson and her husband, Cliff; one sister, Mildred Elizabeth Lohr, all of Madison; five grandchildren, Joanna Dabney and her husband, Kenny, of Brightwood, Chris Gibson and his wife, Tracy, of Madison Heights, Shannon Gibson, Megan Gibson and Joshua Gibson, all of Madison; three great-grandchildren, "Little Suzie Q" Mikala Dabney, Justin Gibson and Alyssa Gibson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Newton Elmer Lohr; four half-brothers, Woodville Gordon Price, Walter T. Price, William Harrison Price and Ollie Carpenter Price; and two half sisters, Louise Price Newman and Roberta Price Parker.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Fairview Christian Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Charles Stacy and Dr. Tommy Palmer.

Marjorie M. Shifflett
Marjorie Marie Shifflett, 64, died Saturday, March 27, 2004. She was born August 15, 1939.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Henry Shifflett; her son, John Wayne Shifflett and his friend, Lori Leigh; her daughter, Jannice Marie Conley and her husband, Stacy Conley; her grandchildren, Nicole Shifflett, Danny Shifflett, Brittnee Conley, Whitney Conley and Shannia Conley; her two brothers, Robert Williams and Ernest "Buster" Williams and his wife, Gladys Williams; her two sisters, Lucille Shifflett and her husband, Elvin Shifflett, Carrie Thomas and her husband, Carl Thomas; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, Orville and Grace Williams; her brothers, Russell Williams, Wilmer Williams and Bernard Williams; and her sister, Virginia Fairburn.
She worked at Panorama for 27 years until her health forced her to retire. She loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends especially if it was shopping. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with interment at the Evergreen cemetery. The Rev. Buzzy Deane and the Rev. David Allison will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contributions to assist in covering burial expenses.
Marie A. Woodson
Marie Ashburn Woodson, 72, of Stanardsville, a faithful servant of the lord, was called home to be with Jesus on Monday, March 29, 2004.
She spent her last days on this earth at her home surrounded by family and friends. She went to be with the Lord after a courageous six-year battle with cancer.
Marie was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Cumberland, Va., to the late William L. and Cordelia Ashburn/ She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, the Rev. Robert Woodson Sr.; her daughter, Shirley Marie Woodson Hrebik and her husband, Karl, of Barboursville, Va.; four sons, Robert Lee Woodson Jr. and his wife, Marion of Fort Mill, S.C.Jim Woodson and his wife, Joyce, of Stanardsville, Va., Bill Woodson and his wife, Michelle, of Burlington, N.C., and Gary Woodson and his wife, Jacqueline, of Stanardsville, Va.; and extended family member, David Thompson and his wife, Audrey, of Barboursville, Va.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Angela Hrebik Carter and her husband, Kevin, Jennifer Hrebik and her fiance, Gary Foote, Robert Lee Woodson III and his wife, Susan, Kari Woodson Sorrels and her husband, Ryan, Matthew Woodson and his wife, Robin, Timothy Woodson and his wife, Kiran, Jennifer Woodson Dordey and her husband, Kevin, Melanie Woodson Reavis and her husband, Scott, John David Woodson, Elizabeth Marie Woodson, and Kristina Marie Woodson and her fiance, Brent E. Young; and eight great-grandchildren.
She is survived by one brother and three sisters, Cecil Ashburn of Cumberland, Va., Thelma Ashburn Grimes and her husband, James, of Woodbridge, Calif., Gracie Ashburn Danford and her husband, Robert, of Walnut Grove, N.C., Joyce Ashburn Wendoriff and her husband, Mark, of Springfield, Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Marie was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Roosevelt Ashburn, Melvin Ashburn, Dorothy Ashbur, and Edith Ashburn Couch.
Marie Woodson’s life was devoted to serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, though tireless support of her husband Robert’s ministries. She had a love for life and a passion for leading souls to Christ. Her love extended beyone her famliy and church to include the community and everyone she met.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Swift Run Baptist Church, Stanardsville, Va. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Swift Run Baptist Church, Stanardsville, Va., with the Rev. C.M. "Buddy" Woodson Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Mark Holder and Betty Norford. Interment
will follow the service at the Stanardsville cemetery.

Shirley Lee Patton
Shirley Lee Patton, 59, of 545 Hays Branch Road, Afton, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at the University of Virginia Hospital.
She was born October 14, 1944, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late James Jarvis and Gertie (Dean) Jarvis. She worked as a lead lady for ConAgra and retired after 39 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Patton Sr.; a son, Edward Patton Jr. in 1988; her step-father, Ellis Roberts; and a sister, Nancy Marie Harlow.
Surviving are her brothers and sisters: James, Barbara Ann, Charles, William "Duke", Judith, Mary Ellen, Tammy Lee, William "Willy-J", Jerry, Patrick, Missie, Janet, Judy, Susan and Lynn.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. Merle Fisher. Interment
will follow in Riverview cemetery, Waynesboro.
Active pallbearers will be Elic Roberts, Allen Coffey, Timmy Coffey, Ronnie Truslow, Ratt Wood and Chris Brouce. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.

Robert Browning
Robert August Browning, 59, of Knoxville, Tenn. passed away Friday, March 26, 2004, at the Baptist Hospital.
He is survived by his mother, Francis Browning; wife, Linda H. Browning; daughter, Melanie B. Jordan; sister, Martha Krupin; brother, William Browning; and a grandson, August Alexander Jordan.
He was the administrative director of labs for Baptist Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn. He was a pioneer in the laboratory field and an inspiration to many of his friends and co-workers. During the last year of his life he was a pillar of courage and strength for everyone who knew him. He will be sadly missed by many friends and family.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Highland Memorial, 5135 Kingston Pike, with a chapel service to follow. Chaplain Dan Hicks will officiate. Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Tennessee Veteran cemetery.

Nan M. Clarkson
Nan M. Clarkson, 77, of Sunset Drive, Arrington, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Lovingston Health Care Center.
She was born June 2, 1926, in Nelson County, a daughter of the late John Joseph Clarkson and Irene Carter Clarkson Gardner.
Nan attended Nelson County Public Schools, Madison College and The University of Maryland. She was a teacher with Bedford County Public Schools and retired from Prince George’s School System in Upper Marlboro, Md. She was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Amherst and attended Trinity Episcopal Church at Oak Ridge, serving on the Vestry, Alter Guild and as president of the Episcopal Church Women.
Nan was a member of the Nelson County Garden Club, Nelson County Historical Society, and First Families of Amherst County; member and past regent of Rockfish Valley Chapter National Society Daughters of The American Revolution; member and past president of Albemarle Chapter #154 United Daughters of The Confederacy; and a member of The House of Burgesses Chapter Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century.
She is survived by her brother, Elgin H. Clarkson and his wife, Kathryn, of Arrington; three nephews, William E. Clarkson of Arrington, John S. Clarkson and his wife, Jonna, of Shipman, and Peter C. Clarkson of Arrington; and two great-nieces, Samantha and Megan Mann.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at The Church of The Epiphany in Amherst, with the Rev. Kenneth Rick officiating. Interment
will follow in the Jonesboro cemetery at Roseland.

Oscar McCauley, 68, of Charlottesville departed this world peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 25, 2004.

Henry McGehee
Henry Corr McGehee, of Palmyra, passed away Friday, March 26, 2004.
He was born on Aug. 27, 1916, the son of William Overton and Eva Cobbs McGehee, of Kents Store. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Edmund McGehee and William Overton McGehee Jr.
Mr. McGehee graduated from Columbia High School. He farmed until he went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Adjustment Administration in the late 1930’s. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service for 35 years in Fluvanna and neighboring counties, advising farmers and designing more than 300 farm ponds. After retiring, he worked part-time for Gooch Engineering and Testing firms for 22 years.
He was a member, former chairman of the board of trustees and former treasurer of Palmyra United Methodist Church. He was one of the original members of the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Minnie Lee May McGehee; two daughters, Betty Frances McGehee and Doris Edmund McGehee; a son, W. Overton McGehee; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Carroll; two grandchildren, Mary Garner McGehee and Eva Jane McGehee; and many other relatives.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Beulah Baptist Church in Kent’s Store. A service of thanksgiving and celebration will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Palmyra United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Fluvanna Fire and Rescue Association, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice of the Piedmont.
