Helen D. Taylor
Helen D. Taylor, 75, of Stanardsville, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at her home.
She was born April 30, 1928, in South Dakota, a daughter of the late William and Lydia Scott Darg. Her husband was the late Herbert E. Taylor.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda McMullen and her husband, Bill, and Beverly Taylor of Stanardsville; a son, Robert E. Taylor of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Michael, Chuck, Ed and Cindy; a brother, Kenneth Darg of Rapid City, S.D.; three sisters, Ann Long of Rapid City, Mable Hill of Sturgis, S.D., and Clara Holt of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mrs. Taylor was retired from Comdial after 25 years.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ryan Funeral Chapel, Quinque, with Dr. Reginald Burgess officiating. Interment
will take place in the Stanardsville cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to the Greene County Rescue Squad, the Stanardsville United Methodist Church or Stanardsville Fire Department.
Pauline Weaver
Pauline Via Weaver died Thursday, March 18, 2004. She was born March 30, 1903.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Raymond Norton of Gordonsville; her granddaughter, Patrica Young of Keswick; her grandson and his wife, Bruce and Pamela Campbell of Phoenixville, Pa.; her great-grandchildren, Michele Ritter of Gordonsville, Jacquelyn Berry and her husband, Mark, of Palmyra and Jennifer Osinski of Norristown, Pa.; her great-great-grandchildren, Mallory and Blake Berry, both of Palmyra.
Following a family-only burial, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at Christ Episcopal Church, Gordonsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes, 1160 Pepsi Place, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
Irvin V. Brooks
A funeral service for Irvin Victor "Brooksie" Brooks will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church on Park Street, with Dr. Joel Jenkins officiating. Interment
will follow at Riverview cemetery.

Margaret S. Craft
Margaret Stone Craft of Charlottesville, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2004.
Born Sept. 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Mary Ellen Hatchet Stone. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry T. Craft, a grand daughter, Elizabeth Burch Craft, a brother, Russell Stone, and a sister, Irma Glass.
Survivors include her sons, Harry T. Craft Jr. and Michael L. Craft; two sisters, Doris S. Moon and Razelle S. Morris, and two brothers, Johnson E. Stone and Gordon K. Stone.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Monticello Memory Gardens.

Ruby C. Garnett
Ruby Christina Cornett Garnett, 81, of Crozet, died at her residence Tuesday, March 16, 2004.
Born Nov. 2, 1922, in Marion, Va., she was the daughter of the late Carl Cox Cornett and Anna Laura Cornett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Nottingham Garnett Sr.; one brother, Joseph Cornett, and four sisters, Pauline Brown, Pearl Green, Charlotte Bradley and Pan Pannill.
She is survived by three sons, E.N. Garnett Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Charlottesville, Va., Charles Cox Garnett, and his wife, Linda, of Abingdon, Va., and James Mercer Garnett and his wife, Jill, of Crozet, Va.; one daughter, Nancy Garnett Osborne and her husband, Bob, of Glenside, Pa.; two sisters, Margaret Worley of Blacksburg, Va., and Louise Warren of Marion, Va.; four brothers-in-law, Dr. Jimmy Green of Falls Church, Dr.Robert Bradley of Charlottesville, Dr. Paul Brown of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Knox Pannill of Montana, and one sister-in-law, Leota Cornett. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Laura Garnett Wall and her husband, Andy, of Washington, D.C., Scott Garnett and his wife, April, of Richmond, Christina Garnett of Richmond, Julie Garnett of Fedricksburg, Jennie Garnett of Crozet, Leigh Osborne of Glenside, Pa., Brian Osborne of Glenside, Pa., and James Garnett of Crozet; one great-grandchild, Ella Grace Garnett of Richmond, and many nieces, nephews and close friends whom she loved dearly.
Ruby was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joys were the Lord, her family, and cutting the grass on her riding lawn mower. She will be remembered by her service to others and especially for her devotion to her grandchildren.
She was an active member and volunteer of Trinity Presbyterian Church and was involved in Precept Bible Studies, Love INC. and the Olive Tree.
Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March l9, 2004, at Trinitiy Presbyterian Church at 3101, Fontaine Avenue, Charlottesville, Va., for visitation.
Following a family-only graveside burial service, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Trinity Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Hall and the Rev. Tony Giles officiating. A reception will follow in the church social hall immediately following the service.

Saumel J. Harper
Samuel James Harper, 82, of Rhoadesville, Va., departed this life Tuesday, March 16, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Martha P. Harper; three sons, Steve Harper of Barboursville, Greg Harper of Burr Hill, and Jeff Harper of Sacremento, Calif.; nine grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving is one sister, Juanita Mouton of Rayne, La.
No funeral is planned. Interment
will be private.

Azlee K. Hickman
Azlee Keller Hickman died Saturday, March 13, 2004, in her home in Charlottesville, Va.
Born May 8, 1985, in Charlottesville, she leaves her parents, Henry B. Hickman of Charlottesville and Rena’ M. Petty Hickman Giesselman of Canton, Conn., and stepfather, David A. Giesselman. She was the stepdaughter of the late Sarah Joy Hickman.
She will be missed by her cherished daughter, Angel-Marie Sarah; her sister, Emily Hickman; and her brothers, Jack and Christopher Giesselman. She leaves grandparents, Patricia Hickman Periolat and John Periolat, Billie Petty Wolfinger and the Rev. John Wolfinger; aunts, Keller Hickman Shinholser, Letitia Hickman Green, and Vanassa Petty Fultz; her uncles, Thomas Hickman and the Rev. Michael Petty; and 17 cousins.
Azlee Hickman was a wonderful and loving mother to her daughter, Angel-Marie. She was gifted with a talent for music, played the piano beautifully, and composed music as well. Her love for small children and animals was endearing. She was employed by CVS Pharmacy in Charlottesville.
Azlee attended The Covenant School and Monticello High School in Charlottesville. She also attended Canton High School in Canton. Azlee was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville and Trinity Episcopal Church in Canton.
Azlee will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at the Teague Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004.

Samuel Hudson Jr.
Samuel Campbell Hudson Jr., of Lombard, Il., formerly of Orange, Va., passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at his home.
Those left to cary on the memories are his wife of 30 years, Sara Magers Hudson; a son, Samuel Campbell Hudson III, and daughter-in-law, Kim; a grandson, Nicholas A.; and step-granddaughters, Heather and Stephanie of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Kimberly Sands of Houston, Texas; a sister, Vivian Fleming and brother-in-law, Bernie of Culpeper. He was the son of the late Samuel Sr. and Kizzie Barker Hudson.
In his career as a professor of Art, he taught at dominican University in River Forest, Il., Nazareth College in Pittsford, N.Y., and the University of Mississippi. He was a member of Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Art and Who’s Who in the World. Mr. Hudson received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and his Masters of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Graham cemetery, Orange, with the Rev. John Crawford of Culpeper United Methodist Church officiating.

William N. Johnson
William Nelson Johnson, 87, of Palmyra, Va., departed this life on March 16, 2004, at the Village Nursing Home.
He was born in Palmyra, Aug. 20, 1915, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Johnson. Two brothers, Sylvester Johnson, and George Russell Johnson and three sisters, Frances C.J. Anderson, Ruth Lightfoot, and Ila Carter Ryan, preceded him in death.
He received his formal education in the Palmyra School system. He was a trustee of and lifelong active member of St. James Baptist Church. He spent his life working on his farm raising pigs and you could often see him driving a team of horses. He was an active community member always willing to lend a helping hand.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted nephew, Phillip George Anderson of Palmyra; other nephews, Henry Lightfoot of Michigan, and Vincent Johnson of New Jersey; five nieces, Catherine Jackson of Ohio, Jean D. Williams of New Jersey, Joan D. Thompson of New Jersey, Jeannette D. Anderson of New Jersey, and Paula Carter Ryan of Michigan; five great nephews, Jermaine L. Briggs, Amar T. Gardner, Martin Ryan, Maurice Ryan, Corey Jackson and Keno Ryan; four great nieces, Carmen Jackson, Schara Anderson, Janaya Anderson, and Ila Ryan; one great-great-nephew, Amar T. Gardner Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at St. James Baptist Church, Palmyra, with the Rev. Lamont Gooding officiating.
His remains will lie in state at the church two hours prior to the service.

Audrey Lee Parrish
Audrey Lee Parrish, 68, of New Canton, Va., died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Dumfries, Va.
Born Nov. 28, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Betty Dunnaway Lee. She was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Parrish and a foster son, Lewis Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Russell; two sons, Roger of New Canton and Thom of Martinburg, W.Va.; three daughters, Sabrina Snyder and her husband, Layland, of Hamilton, Ga., Lisa Trujillio and her husband, Mike, of Dumfries, Va., and Beth Hope and her husband, Danny, of Allen, Texas; two brothers, Warren "Buddy" Lee and his wife, Sondra, of Lynchburg and Maurice "Joe" Lee and his wife, Ann, of Clearwater, Okla., 14 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Colbert Funeral Home Chapel, Bremo Bluff, Va., with the Rev. John Mann officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kedron Baptist Church cemetery, Gladys, Va.

Arlene H. Peebles
Arlene Harlow "Shorty" Peebles of Charlottesville, Va., passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, after a short battle with cancer.
Born March 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Bernice E. Harlow and Lula R. Johnson Harlow and was also preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Sandy Peebles of Charlottesville and her daughter, Brenda H. Wilkerson of Burkeville, Va.
"Shorty" was a member of First Baptist Church of Charlottesville and a member of the Detamore Class. She was a former employee of J.D. Wiley’s, a longtime employee of Miller & Rhoads, Crestar Bank, and First Federal Savings and Loan in Charlottesville.
Surviving her are two sons, William D. "Billy" Peebles Jr. and his wife, Edna, of Troy, Va., and Robert A. "Bobby" Peebles and his wife, Linda, of Mechanicsville, Va.; four granddaughters, Trudy L. Peebles of Charlottesville, Dana R. Peebles of Luray, Va., Suzanne Peebles Trimble and her husband, Chris, of Richmond, and Elizabeth H. Peebles of Richmond; one great-grandson, Justin R. Trimble; and many other family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Hill & Wood Funeral Home, with Dr. Joel P. Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Final disposition will be private.
