Mildred Kaulback
Mildred Van Lear Kaulback, 90, of Oakton, and formerly of Charlottesville, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Kaulback was born and raised in Waynesboro. After attending the College of William and Mary, she pursued a brief career as an elementary school teacher in Charlottesville, where she continued to reside throughout most of her adult life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank S. Kaulback Jr., and was active with the Faculty Wives Club during his career at the University of Virginia. Mrs. Kaulback was a member of local bridge clubs, book clubs, and various community service groups.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Frank S. Kaulback III and Ella R. Kaulback of Oak Hill; two grandchildren, Gordon Russell Kaulback and Katherine Lindsay Kaulback; and a sister, Louise V. Kaulback of Salem.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today, March 15, 2004, at Hill & Wood Funeral Home, 201 N. First St., Charlottesville. Interment
will be private.

Kristine Mastellone
Kristine Mary Mastellone, 44, of Ruckersville, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, in Ruckersville.
She was born Dec. 17, 1959, in the Bronx, N.Y. She is the daughter of Theresa Klauer and the late Julius Klauer.
Kristine was, with her husband, owner and operator of Vinny’s Restaurant in Ruckersville. She was awarded the Citizen of the Year for the past two years in Ruckersville.
She is survived by her husband, Vincent P. Mastellone of Ruckersville; two loving daughters, Alexis Nicole Mastellone and Angela Marie Mastellone; and two brothers, Walter Klauer and his wife, Sherry, of Lake Monticello and Steven Klauer and his wife, Sara, of Greene County.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Madison, with Father Dan Bain officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 15, 2004, at the funeral home.
William K. McGehee
William Kennedy "Chuck" McGehee, 82, died Friday, March 12, 2004. A native and lifelong resident of Hampton, he was a member of VFW Post 3219; American Legion Post 48, where he was also a past commander; Hampton Elks Lodge #366, BPOE; and the Newport News Apprentice Alumni Association.
Mr. McGehee graduated from the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School in 1948 and retired in 1984 as a machinist inspector after 37 years of service. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and in the Army during the Korean War. He then served in the Virginia National Guard, retiring in 1962.
preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Luther McGehee, Mr. McGehee is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Joseph Sanzo of Hampton, Kathleen and Dave Yarashes of Hampton, and Linda and Stacey Mills of Charlottesville; six grandchildren, Jody Sanzo, Karen Crum, Jason Yarashes, Lindsey Yarashes, Elizabeth Mills, and Anne Mills; one great-granddaughter, Victoria Sanzo. Additionally, he leaves behind a beloved brother-in-law and wife, Thomas and Jayne Lewis; and his youthful playmate and cousin, Nelson Payne and his wife, Vickie.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, March 15, 2004, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hampton, with the Rev. Henry B. Sudduth officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
As a young boy, Chuck spent summers with his cousins in Goochland County and acquired a real love for the country. He and his wife Dorothy brought their three daughters on vacations to the Blue Ridge Mountains in summer and fall, and in later years he visited Charlottesville often, always enjoying the first glimpse of the mountains from Interstate 64. Although he spent his life near the Chesapeake Bay, this area was very dear to him.
Every family moment was special to Chuck. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be remembered with love by many.

Mary J. McIntosh
Mary "Mimi" Josephine McIntosh, 96, of Charlottesville, formerly of Highland Park and Oak Park, Ill., died at Rosewood Village on Sunday, March 14, 2004.
Born Jan. 20, 1908 in Chicago, IL she was the daughter of the late Andrew Kasprovicz and Barbara Skaniechni Kasprovicz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kenneth McIntosh and four sisters, Harriet Whelan, Isabelle Tyson, Esther Slaski, and Grace Terre.
Surviving her are her daughter, Min Dahn, of Charlottesville; her son, Peter McIntosh, and his wife, Erin Garvey, of Charlottesville; and three grandchildren, Eliza Duenow of Chicago, Zachary Duenow and his wife, Dorothea, of Chicago and Kathryn McIntosh of Charlottesville.
The family would like to express special thanks to the caring staff and administration at Rosewood Village and the wonderful staff of Martha Jefferson Infirmary.

Audrey E. D. Payne
Audrey Elizabeth Deavers Payne, 78, of Zion died Saturday, March 13, 2004, in Albemarle County.
Born Feb. 14, 1926, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late James Franklin Deavers and the late Etta Jenkins Deavers.
Mrs. Payne was a long-time member of Zion United Methodist Church and retired from Comdial of Charlottesville.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carroll S. Payne; one daughter, Cathy P. Harlow and husband, Gerald, of Zion; two sons, Michael K. Payne and fiance, Jo Higgins, of Crozet and Donald B. Payne of Zion; four grandchildren, Jason Harlow of Charlottesville, Aaron Harlow and wife, Megan, of Zion, Ashley Payne and Devan Payne of Palmyra; one great-grandchild, Abigayle Ana Harlow; one brother, Leonard B. "Dennie" Deavers of Hampton; four sisters, Vallie Trainham and Jean Miller both of Hampton, Louise Wolfrey of Orange and Bessie Wilson of North Carolina. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Frances Watson; and three brothers, Harold Deavers, John Deavers, and James "Junior" Deavers.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Zion United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Will Montgomery will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Zion United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
Audrey was a devoted Christian who loved her Lord, her church and her family. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a true inspiration and blessing to her family and all who knew her.

Charles M. Pollard
Charles Miller "Gus" Pollard, 75, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 14, 2004.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Monticello Memory Gardens.

Harvey Lee Stoner Sr.
Harvey Lee Stoner Sr., of Rhoadesville, departed from this life on Saturday, March 13, 2004.
Mr. Stoner was born Jan. 3, 1917 and was 87 years old. Living a very vigorous and enjoyable life, he went home to his Lord and Savior. He was the son of the late Freemont F. Stoner and Bertha G. (Brooks) Stoner and Annie Chewning Stoner, his stepmother, all of Spotsylvania County. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Grace, of 63 years.
Mr. Stoner is survived by his five children, Harvey Lee Stoner Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Barboursville, Joan Stoner McClung and her husband, Robert, of Unionville, Donald S. Stoner and his wife, Joyce, of Phoenix, Ariz., M. Rachel Stoner of Rhoadesville and Linda Stoner Timmons and her husband, Howard (Dootsie), of Unionville; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his best friend and brother-in-law, Robert I. Brown, whom he loved and cherished, sharing with each other the events of the day, comparing notes on the ballgames the night before and the temperature of the morning.
Mr. Stoner had two sisters and one brother, Stanford F. Stoner, Helen Stoner Tedrow and Edna Stoner Mills, who are all deceased.
Mr. Stoner served in WWII in the U.S. Army. After his service, he worked for Bethleham Steel Co. and then moved to Orange County and was a dairyman for 16 years and then worked in construction running heavy equipment. He retired from William A. Hazel, Inc. in Chantilly. He enjoyed his 25 years of retirement, doing all the things he loved best, fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He was also well known in the neighborhood as the "traveling vegetable man". People looked forward to his visits and bought from him, even when they didn’t need anything. An avid gardener, he loved to brag on his big tomatoes and scrumptious green beans. Mr. Stoner never knew a stranger and loved to talk and never forgot a friend. A man of many words, he was vivacious and strong in his values.
Mr. Stoner was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County, where he was Deacon Emeritus.
There will be a family night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Locust Grove.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Fellowship Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronald Panebaker and the Rev. Nancy Stanton McDaniel will officiate.

Lillian M. G. Woodward
Lillian Mary George Woodward, 89, of 1250 Sunset Lane, died Saturday, March 13, 2004 at her residence. She was born in Newport, Pa. on Sept. 2, 1914, the daughter of the late David George and Annie Orwan Paden in Newport, Pa.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward S. "Bud" Woodward, Sr. and a son, Edward S. "Bootz" Woodward, Jr.
She is survived by a son, Melvin "Gene" Woodward and his wife, Sandra, of Waynesboro; a daughter, Patricia Via and her husband, Theron of Fishersville; a daughter-in-law, Janet Miller-Woodward of Lake Monticello; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her devoted caregivers Sue Ball, Sara Sours and Sarah Creech.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Augusta Memorial Park with Chaplain Mark A. Westebbe and the Rev. Gary Milstead officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight March 15, 2004, at Reynolds Funeral Home of Waynesboro.

Colleen B. Belcher
Colleen Brown Belcher, 41, died of Neurofibromatosis complications Tuesday, March 9, 2004.
Colleen was a Jefferson Forest High School graduate. She then moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where she worked at Regency Village Pre-School until being diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis I & II. The 21-year battle with the disease left her with multiple handicaps, which led to a move back to Virginia.
Trying to find a purpose in life, Colleen became a volunteer for VA Assistive Technology in Charlottesville. Colleen’s true purpose was fulfilled when she discovered CreataCard Friends (cacfriends.com) and Shareacard (sharacard.org), where she was a moderator for both Web sites owned and operated by Suzanne Virostek. Shareacard is a special program that sends encouragement cards to the terminally and seriously ill. Colleen was a feature as well as a very active member as a Shareacard coordinator.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Vaglio; mother, Kristine and her husband, Richard Tomlinson; two brothers, Craig Brown and wife, Norma, and Tim Brown and wife, Sandy; two nieces, Tyler and Jordan; and three nephews, Jonathan, Zachary and Austin.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Anna Griswold Boxley
Griswold Boxley, 74, a lifetime Louisa County resident, passed away at her home, The Boxley Place, in Louisa.
Born on May 25, 1929, in Richmond, she was the daughter of Bruce Vaughn Boxley Jr. and Annie Gris McIntosh Boxley. She was a graduate of Louisa County High School, where she later taught science and biology, and she was a graduate of Longwood College Class of 1949.
She is survived by three daughters, Bruce Louise (Breese) Cousins Glennon of Bokeelia, Fla., Mary Griswold (Mitsi) Cousins Wood, of Folly Beach, S.C., and Courtney Anne Cousins Wood of Front Royal. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dustin Pike Wood of Folly Beach, S.C., Matthew Buck Robert Rusk of Spartanburg, N.C., Hunter Mansfield Wood, Ashton Pearce Wood, and Leslie Russell Wood, all of Front Royal.
Gris wrote for the Central Virginian newspaper, and The Virginia Light House Society. She was also well known for her support of the Louisa County Historical Society, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and League of Women Voters. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Virginia Association of Science Teachers. Gris served her hometown as a juvenile probation officer, and as an elected member of the Town Council of Louisa and was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church.
There will be a memorial service held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at St. James Episcopal Church, Louisa.
The family will receive friends at the Boxley Place following the service.
