Funeral services for Mary Madeline Douglas will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday July 21, 2003 at Union Baptist Church in Gordonsville with interment to follow in St. Johns Baptist Church cemetery. Pastor James T. Jackson will officiate.

A memorial service for Angelo Joseph Farruggio will be conducted at Effort Baptist Church on Route 53 in Fluvanna County today, at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. David Clay officiating. The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contribute donations to Effort Baptist Church Building Fund.
Family and friends will gather together in Palmyra immediately following the service at the home of Tom Farruggio.
Nellie W. Ford
Nellie Walton Ford, 88, of Boonesville died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
Born January 15, 1915, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas Walton and Lucy Rubush Walton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Walton Ford; five sisters, Ruby Walton Knight, Sophie Walton Young, Edith Walton Davis, Helen Walton Hall, and Kathleen Walton Lamb; three brothers, Minor Melvin Walton, Nelson Irvin Walton, and Raymond Louis Walton; and two granddaughters, Sheri Ann Ford and Nora Ford Wilkinson.
Mrs. Ford leaves her devoted children, Wayne Keith Ford and his wife Mary Ellen, Kathleen Ford Davis and her husband Dennis, and Karen Lee Ford; four grandchildren, Deanna Davis VanDerveer and her husband Robert, Joseph Ray Ford and his wife Virginia, John Patrick Powell, and Samuel Benjamin Powell; and eight great grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley VanDerveer, Sarah Kathleen Walton VanDerveer, Joseph Tanner Ford, Keith Aaron Ford, Kenneth Mark Wilkinson, II, Whitney Nicole Wilkinson, and Elizabeth Mae Wilkinson. She will also be mourned by her beloved sisters, Pauline Walton Corbin and Alease Walton Bruce; her sister-in-law, Vertie Ford Powers; her many very dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. By all, she will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her endless capacity for love, her wonderful sense of humor, and her abiding faith in God.
Mrs. Ford graduated from Blue Ridge School in 1932. She attended Nyack College in Nyack, New York and the University of Virginia. She graduated from Episcopal College in Philadelphia, Pa. While in Philadelphia, she began her career in service to others as a social worker in the inner city. A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, she devoted much of her life to teaching and caring for the people she loved in the rural areas of Greene and Madison Counties. In the early 1940’s she and her husband Joe, with the assistance of their dear friend Bishop W. Roy Mason, established St. Davids Episcopal Mission on Wyatt’s Mountain in Greene County, where she served as teacher, social worker, and close friend to all. Also dear to her heart were the years she spent at the University of Virginia Hospital, where she was a medical social worker from 1962 until her retirement in 1978. From 1969 until her retirement, Mrs. Ford was also Clinical Instructor in Medicine and Clinical Instructor in Family and Community Medicine in the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of Virginia Hospital, the UVA Primary Care Center, and home health care nurse, Jackie Gentry, for the capable and loving care extended to Mrs. Ford during her illness.
Funeral services will be held at Prize Hill cemetery Chapel at 2 p.m. today, with the Rev. Peter T. Way and Mr. Roger Browning officiating.

Robert R. Foster, M.D.
Robert Russell Foster, M.D., 78, of Charlottesville, died July 15, 2003 in a local hospital.

Mary E. King, 81
Mary Elizabeth Martin King, 81, of Harrisonburg died Wednesday, July 16, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1922 in Harrisonburg, daughter of the late P.S. and Annie Suter Wenger Martin. On September 15, 1945, she married
Sanford A. King, who survives.
Also surviving are six children, Mary Jane King Garrison and her husband, David, of Keswick; Lois Ann King and Evelyn E. King, both of Harrisonburg; Sanford R. King and his wife, Phyllis, of Dayton; Martha King Maddox and her husband, Charles, of Broadway; and Daniel M. King and his wife, Janet, of Harrisonburg. Also surviving are seven grandchildren including Margaret King Garrison, of Keswick, one brother and three sisters.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6:30-8p.m. today, at McMullen Funeral Home.
The funeral will be conducted 2p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Zion Mennonite Church, Broadway. Burial will follow in the Lindale Mennonite Church cemetery.
Pauline E. Kinzie
Pauline Elizabeth Garst Kinzie ("Pollie") passed away at the Bridgewater Retirement Community in Bridgewater, Va. Friday July 4, 2003. Born in Roanoke County, she was 94 years old and was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Margie Garst, her husband William Kinzie, and a son, Alexander Kinzie.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, William and Elizabeth Kinzie of Roanoke, Va. John and Joan Kinzie of Richmond, Va. Michael and Vicki Kinzie of Greenville, NC, and Mary and Malcolm Inge of Charlottesville, Va. She is survived by one sister, Nancy Trout of Bridgewater, Va. In addition she is also survived by eight grandchildren (including Leanne, Jessica, and Taylor Inge of Charlottesville) four great grandchildren, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kinzie attended Dalesville Academy and Bridgewater College, worked beside her husband in numerous pastorates and served as a missionary in India. She was a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of her life in the chapel of the Bridgewater Retirement Community in Bridgewater, Va. on July 27, 2003 at 3 p.m. The family will welcome friends in the chapel following the service.

Elsie L. Kube
Elsie Lancaster Kube, formerly of Mine Run, died July 16, 2003, at the Fredericksburg Nursing Home. Her husband was the late Clarence C. Kube.
Mrs. Kube was born September 14, 1907 in Orange County, daughter of Lucian Thomas and Margaret Webb Lancaster. She was a member and Sunday School teacher of Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are six sons; Edward of Rhoadsville, Ennis of Mechanicsville, Haywood, Wayne, Alvin and Johnny of Fredericksburg and one daughter, Adalene K. Peters of Palmyra, Va.
Also twenty-four grand children, 35 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, and one sister, Virginia L. Carter of Luray, Va.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Margaret Kube, Hazel K. McCord, and Marie K. Clarke; one grandchild, Krystal McCord Pleasants. Also four brothers; Linwood, Walter, Arlie and Melvin.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. today at the Preddy Funeral Home in Orange. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 19, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Preddy Funeral Chapel in Orange; conducted by the Rev. Nancy Stanton-McDaniel and the Rev. Linda Ray. Robert C. Mason
Robert Carlin Mason, 68, of Orange died Wednesday July 16, 2003 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Born April 24, 1935 in –Orange County he was the son of the late Charles C. Mason and the late Mary Seal Mason. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces, truck driver for Jay Marshall trucking company of Unionville and a member of Orange Masonic Lodge #138 A.F. and A.M. He is survived by one brother John Mason of Orange; five sisters Peggy M. Shifflett, Shirley M. McClary and husband Bobby, Doris M. Morris and husband Cliff, Betty M. Bober and husband Mike, Sarah M. Watson, two aunts Margaret S. Shifflett and Vera M. Vance and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Sammy Mason.
Funeral services will be Monday July 21, 2003 at 11 a.m. from the Preddy Funeral Chapel Orange conducted by Rev. Joe Brunett with interment in Culpeper National cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 330 and V.F.W. Post 2524 both of Culpeper. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the Preddy Funeral Chapel following a Masonic service at 7 p.m. by the Orange Masonic Lodge.

Mary H. Woodward
Mary Helen Woodward, 54, of Leon died Thursday, July 17, 2003 in Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Loyal, Va. Born July 13, 1949 in Fauquier County. She was the daughter of the late Howard William Redmon and Jessie Bell Redmon and wife of the late Eugene Woodward.
She is survived by four sons, Davis Lee Shifflett of Culpeper, Harman Davis Shifflett, Jr. of Front Royal, Michael Anthony Shifflett of Richmond, Kevin Eugene Woodward of Madison; a daughter, Sally Ann Shifflett; a brother, James Edward Redmon of Front Loyal; a sister, Catherine L. Goodspeed of Front Loyal; nieces; nephews; great nieces; and great nephews.

Eliza Jean Terrell Bragaw, 96, of Bolder Colorado formerly of Stony Point Albemarle County died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 in Manor Care Nursing Home in Bolder. Born December 10, 1906 in Stony Point. She is the daughter of the late James Crawford Terrell and the late Martha Jane Gate Terrell.
She is survived by one son Louis Bragaw and wife Karen of Bedford, mass. and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be Saturday July 19, 2003 at 3 p.m. in the Piedmont Christian Church cemetery in Stony Point. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2 p.m. on Saturday at the Preddy Funeral Home 250 W. Main St. Orange, Va.

William Christian Sr.
William "Bill" Edward Christian Sr. of 2821 Galts Mill Road, Madison Heights, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 11, 1953 the son of Harry B. Christian Sr. and the late Willie Mae Christian. He was the husband of Mrs. Joyce Christian and the stepson of Tracy Christian. He was also preceded in death by a son, Andrian Christian.
He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army and was a member of Scott Zion Baptist Church. He was an employee of Alliance Industrial in Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife, father, and stepmother, he is survived by his stepson, Rodney Mosley and a niece, Latysha Christian, both of the residence; two children, William Christian Jr., and Shanda Christian, both of Madison Heights; two grandchildren, Jade Grave and Victoria Mosley, both of Madison Heights; four brothers, Phillip Christian (Lee) of Charlottesville, Harold Christian (Lee) of Olathe, Kan., Harry Christian jr. (Gloria) of Wichita, Kan., and Randy Christian of Madison Heights; four sisters, Valerie Ashley, Sandra McDaniel, Paula Lewis, all of Madison Heights and Anita Franklin (Gregory) of Concord; a step-brother, Ryan Paige of Madison Heights; his mother and father-in-law, James and Bernice Young of Lynchburg; two brothers-in-law, Michael Rucker (Leslie) and Otis Rucker (Sherry), both of Madison Heights; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Jackson (Charles) and Michelle Thomas (Hubert) of Goldsboro, N.C.; one uncle, James Christian (Ann); four great uncles, six great aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday July 20, 2003 at Scott Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Alvin Edwards officiating. Internment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence. His remains can be viewed at the church one hour prior to the service.

Henry A. Denny
Henry A. Denny of Charlottesville died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at his home in University Village. Mr. Denny was born April 3, 1905 in Jonesville, VA (Lee County) to the late Marion and Della Denny.
He was raised from the age of eight in the Odd Fellows Home in Lynchburg, VA. He had a lifelong appreciation for the care and education he received at the Home and maintained close ties with those who were raised with him as well as those who cared for him. After graduating from Lynchburg High School in 1923 and leaving the Home, he attended Virginia Tech, graduating in 1927 with a BS in civil engineering. Later he completed Harvard’s Advanced Management program.
Mr. Denny worked for more than 30 years for Koppers Company, Inc. of Pittsburgh, PA, a builder of steel mills and chemical plants worldwide. His career took him all over the world and he retired in 1966 as Vice President of Koppers and General Manager of the Engineering and Construction Division.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Mensel Denny; a daughter, Gail Van Fossen of Charlottesville; a son, Tom Denny and his wife, Diane of Saratoga Springs, NY; five grandchildren, Scott Van Fossen, Jeff Van Fossen, Kate Van Fossen Hager and her husband, Jeff, Flannery Denny, and Brittany Denny; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Laura Denny and Grace Denny; and by his siblings, Tate Denny, Eula Denny, Alonzo Sprinkle, and Grace Denny Rader.
Mr. Denny was a past-president of the National Construction Association; a member of the Registered Professional Engineers of Pennsylvania and New York; a member of the National Association of Professional Engineers; American Society of Civil Engineers; the Pittsburgh Field Club; the Laurel Valley Golf Club, Duquesne Club of Pittsburgh and the Farmington Country Club of Charlottesville, VA. He served generously on community boards, including the Ross Township (PA) Planning Board and the Suburban General Hospital Board of Trustees, and others.
