Mary Madeline Douglas, 55, of Gordonsville departed this life on July 15, 2003. Born August 8, 1947. She is preceded in death by her mother, Edna M. Douglas and father Linwood Douglas; Three brothers, James Douglas, John Douglas, Kenneth Douglas; two brothers in laws, Edward Beasley, Rosevelt Durant; one sister-in-law Lisa Douglas.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Deloris Douglas; two grandchildren, Whitnie Trelane Douglas and Sean Marcel Douglas, and one great grandson, Tyrek Daishawn Shelton all of Gordonsville; four sisters, Frances Drat of Gordonsville, Deloris Cobb of Louisa, Magnolia Beasley of Orange, Susan Smith of Charlottesville; two brothers, Van Alexander Douglas of Gordonsville, Robert Douglas of Middleburg; three sister-in-laws, Mary Frances Douglas, Mary Jackson Douglas and Jean Marie Douglas. She also leaves to mourn two dear friends, Mary Louise Carter and Lucille Minor and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday July 21, 2003 at Union Baptist Church in Gordonsville with interment to follow in St. Johns Baptist Church cemetery. Pastor James T. Jackson will officiate.

A Graveside Service for Frances Fitzpatrick Edmunds will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. today, at Riverview cemetery in Waynesboro by the Rev. William G. Wilson.
There will be no visitation or viewing.

Marian L. Elam
Marian Lively Elam, 82 of Charlottesville, died July 16, 2003 at Trinity Missions.
Born October 29, 1920 in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of John C. and Nellie Chisom Collins. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence Lively and Robert Elam; two sons, Randolph Lively and Robert Fred Lively; three sisters, Lillian Hunt, Annie Mawyer Davis, Marjie Pritchitt; two brothers, Shield Collins and Jerome Buck Collins.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Gene Lively and his wife Dot; William Raymond Lively and his wife Becky all of Charlottesville; two sisters, Ruby "Sis" McDonald and Virginia Brown also of Charlottesville; six grandchildren, Tammy Marshall of Appomattox; Chris Lively of Roanoke; Amy, Kim and Steve Lively all of Charlottesville and Patti Reynard of Fluvanna; 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Jimmy Mawyer of Charlottesville.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at St. Luke’s cemetery, Simeon with Rev. Gary Dalton officiating.

Angelo J. Farruggio
A memorial service for Angelo Joseph Farruggio will be conducted at Effort Baptist Church on Route 53 in Fluvanna County on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. David Clay officiating. The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contribute donations to Effort Baptist Church Building Fund.
Family and friends will gather together in Palmyra immediately following the service at the home of Tom Farruggio.
Nellie W. Ford
Nellie Walton Ford, 88, of Boonesville died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
Born January 15, 1915, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas Walton and Lucy Rubush Walton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Walton Ford; five sisters, Ruby Walton Knight, Sophie Walton Young, Edith Walton Davis, Helen Walton Hall, and Kathleen Walton Lamb; three brothers, Minor Melvin Walton, Nelson Irvin Walton, and Raymond Louis Walton; and two granddaughters, Sheri Ann Ford and Nora Ford Wilkinson.
Mrs. Ford leaves her devoted children, Wayne Keith Ford and his wife Mary Ellen, Kathleen Ford Davis and her husband Dennis, and Karen Lee Ford; four grandchildren, Deanna Davis VanDerveer and her husband Robert, Joseph Ray Ford and his wife Virginia, John Patrick Powell, and Samuel Benjamin Powell; and eight great grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley VanDerveer, Sarah Kathleen Walton VanDerveer, Joseph Tanner Ford, Keith Aaron Ford, Kenneth Mark Wilkinson, II, Whitney Nicole Wilkinson, and Elizabeth Mae Wilkinson. She will also be mourned by her beloved sisters, Pauline Walton Corbin and Alease Walton Bruce; her sister-in-law, Vertie Ford Powers; her many very dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. By all, she will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her endless capacity for love, her wonderful sense of humor, and her abiding faith in God.
Mrs. Ford graduated from Blue Ridge School in 1932. She attended Nyack College in Nyack, New York and the University of Virginia. She graduated from Episcopal College in Philadelphia, Pa. While in Philadelphia, she began her career in service to others as a social worker in the inner city. A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, she devoted much of her life to teaching and caring for the people she loved in the rural areas of Greene and Madison Counties. In the early 1940’s she and her husband Joe, with the assistance of their dear friend Bishop W. Roy Mason, established St. Davids Episcopal Mission on Wyatt’s Mountain in Greene County, where she served as teacher, social worker, and close friend to all. Also dear to her heart were the years she spent at the University of Virginia Hospital, where she was a medical social worker from 1962 until her retirement in 1978. From 1969 until her retirement, Mrs. Ford was also Clinical Instructor in Medicine and Clinical Instructor in Family and Community Medicine in the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of Virginia Hospital, the UVA Primary Care Center, and home health care nurse, Jackie Gentry, for the capable and loving care extended to Mrs. Ford during her illness.
Funeral services will be held at Prize Hill cemetery Chapel at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2003, with the Rev. Peter T. Way and Mr. Roger Browning officiating. The family will receive friends this evening from 7-9 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home on St. George Avenue in Crozet, Va.

Robert Russell Foster, M.D., 78, of Charlottesville, died July 15, 2003 in a local hospital.

Ralph Herman Gieck will be buried at Wentworth Farm and a memorial service will be held at Aldersgate Methodist Church, Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.

Obea Daniel Glass, Sr.
Obea Daniel Glass, Sr., 71 of Faber, VA, died Wednesday, July 15, 2003.
Born June 4, 1932, in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late Clifford Edward Glass and Virginia Elizabeth Viar Glass.
He was a member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Faber Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Glass retired from Dawson Cabinet Shop after 46 years.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Alice Marie Shaver Glass; two sons, Obea D. Glass, Jr. of Faber and George Clifford Glass and wife, Chrissy of Esmont; three daughters, Janet Adkins and husband Ronald, Rosemary Johnson and husband Travis all of Faber and Tammy Thompson and husband Norman Graybill of Afton; one adopted daughter, Anita Rohr and husband Richard of Lovingston; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Shawn Johnson of Faber; Daniel and Matthew Glass of Esmont; Brandy Graybill of Afton; Samantha Glass of Charlottesville; and Skye Adkins of Faber; one great granddaughter, Amy Rohr of Lovingston; one brother, Gene Glass and wife Patsy of Faber; one half-sister, Polly Brown of Waynesboro and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Rock Spring United Methodist Church in Faber with Dr. Dan Abbott officiating. Interment
will follow in the Glass Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Our strong appreciation goes out to University Medical Center staff, Pegasus Flight Crew and the Nelson County Emergency Services for all their help and support.
Mary E. King
Mary Elizabeth Martin King, 81, of Harrisonburg died Wednesday, July 16, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1922 in Harrisonburg, daughter of the late P.S. and Annie Suter Wenger Martin. On September 15, 1945, she married
Sanford A. King, who survives.
Also surviving are six children, Mary Jane King Garrison and her husband, David, of Keswick; Lois Ann King and Evelyn E. King, both of Harrisonburg; Sanford R. King and his wife, Phyllis, of Dayton; Martha King Maddox and her husband, Charles, of Broadway; and Daniel M. King and his wife, Janet, of Harrisonburg. Also surviving are seven grandchildren including Margaret King Garrison, of Keswick, one brother and three sisters.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6:30-8p.m. Saturday, July 19, at McMullen Funeral Home.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Zion Mennonite Church, Broadway. Burial will follow in the Lindale Mennonite Church cemetery.
Elsie L. Kube
Elsie Lancaster Kube, formerly of Mine Run, died July 16, 2003, at the Fredericksburg Nursing Home. Her husband was the late Clarence C. Kube.
Mrs. Kube was born September 14, 1907 in Orange County, daughter of Lucian Thomas and Margaret Webb Lancaster. She was a member and Sunday School teacher of Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are six sons; Edward of Rhoadsville, Ennis of Mechanicsville, Haywood, Wayne, Alvin and Johnny of Fredericksburg and one daughter, Adalene K. Peters of Palmyra, Va.
Also twenty-four grand children, 35 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, and one sister, Virginia L. Carter of Luray, Va.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Margaret Kube, Hazel K. McCord, and Marie K. Clarke; one grandchild, Krystal McCord Pleasants. Also four brothers; Linwood, Walter, Arlie and Melvin.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. today at the Preddy Funeral Home in Orange. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 19, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Preddy Funeral Chapel in Orange; conducted by the Rev. Nancy Stanton-McDaniel and the Rev. Linda Ray. The family request that expressions of sympathy take the cemetery Fund, Box 35 Unionville, Va. 22567. Interment
will be held at the Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.
Robert C. Mason
Robert Carlin Mason, 68, of Orange died Wednesday July 16, 2003 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Born April 24, 1935 in –Orange County he was the son of the late Charles C. Mason and the late Mary Seal Mason. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces, truck driver for Jay Marshall trucking company of Unionville and a member of Orange Masonic Lodge #138 A.F. and A.M. He is survived by one brother John Mason of Orange; five sisters Peggy M. Shifflett, Shirley M. McClary and husband Bobby, Doris M. Morris and husband Cliff, Betty M. Bober and husband Mike, Sarah M. Watson, two aunts Margaret S. Shifflett and Vera M. Vance and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Sammy Mason.
Funeral services will be Monday July 21, 2003 at 11 a.m. from the Preddy Funeral Chapel Orange conducted by Rev. Joe Brunett with interment in Culpeper National cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 330 and V.F.W. Post 2524 both of Culpeper. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the Preddy Funeral Chapel following a Masonic service at 7 p.m. by the Orange Masonic Lodge.
Bessie A. Minor
Bessie A. Minor (Miss Bessie), 86, of Mineral, Va. departed this life July 14, 2003 at the Louisa Health Care Center. She was married
to the late Lou William Lewis, Sr. and had eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Minnie Minor; two sons, Ben and Shirkey Lewis. She is survived by two daughters, Rev. Virginia Farmer of Mineral and Mary Watkins (Kenneth) of Highland Springs, Va.; four sons, Lou Lewis of Mineral, Wayne Lewis (Linda of Bumpass, Va.; Chestine and David Lewis of Richmond; daughter in law, Beulah Lewis of Mineral; seventeen grand children; nineteen great grandchildren; four sisters; Hannah Price, Mary Hughes (Ellis), Clay Watson (Herman) all of Mineral, and Daisy Kinney (Tom) of West Va.; three brothers, James Minor (Geraldine) of Charlottesville; Haywood Minor and Joe Minor (Vivian all of Mineral. Frances M. Nishiguchi
Frances M. Nishiguchi, born on May 23, 1920, Honolulu, Hawaii, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at the age 83.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Yumi and Christian Chauveau of Paris, France; Cory and Michael Skeens, and one grandson and his wife, Bobby and Megan Skeens, all of Stanardsville.
Internment will take place at a later date in Hawaii.

Elizabeth M. Romine
Elizabeth Mary Romine, 92, of Troy, formerly of Manassas, Va., went home to her Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning July 15, 2003, at the Bradford County Manor.
Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1910, in Nelson County Va.; a daughter of the late Edward and Rosa (Hunt) Mayer.
"Granny as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was a member of the Park Side Alliance Church in Manassas, Va.
Mrs. Romine worked many years preparing produce for sale, inspecting and packing Virginia apples and peaches for shipment. She later cleaned Truman Long’s residence in Manassas until her retirement in 1972. "Granny" enjoyed sewing, reading and bible study.
Surviving are; 2 daughters, Catherine Weed and friend, James Morgan both of Troy, Shirley and Roger Himelight of Manassas, Va.; 6 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren special niece, Hazel Chanclor of Palmyra, Va.
Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Romaine was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Stanley Romine; 5 brothers, Otis "Peg", Kermit, Broadus, Emmitt and Robert Mawyer, and 2 sisters; Zora Harris and Addie Harris.
Her family invites friends to call from 6-8 p.m. this evening, at the Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Dr., Canton, Pa. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, in the National Memorial cemetery, Falls Church, Va.

Edward V. Siegel II
Edward Valentine Siegel II died July 12, 2003, at the age of ninety. He was a prominent surgeon and psychiatrist in Hampton Roads who was known for his skill, generosity and compassion. In 1979 he moved with his wife, Mallory, to the farm he loved in Fluvanna County and continued working part-time as a psychiatrist until 1989.
Dr. Siegel was a graduate of Hampden Sydney College and the University of Virginia Medical School, Class of 1940. He was an old-fashioned doctor who practiced the Hippocratic oath to the fullest extent. He helped anyone who came to him; he turned no one away.
Ed Siegel was passionate about preventive medicine, a sustainable global environment and excellence in education. In addition, he was an amateur archaeologist with an avid interest in Native American history and culture. He enjoyed sailing, organic gardening, tree farming and all aspects of nature.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, five daughters, seventeen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His son preceded him in death twenty-five years ago.
There will be a gathering to remember his long and productive life on Saturday, July 26 at four- o’clock at Quail Hill Farm. The address is 1542 Poorhouse Lane, Troy, Virginia, 22974.
Antoinette Skulka
Antoinette Skula, 92, of Ruckersville, died Tuesday July 15, 2003 at a Charlottesville Nursing home.
She was born April 20, 1911 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. a daughter of the late Lawrence and Agnes Paciak Zarkowski. Her husband was the late Joseph Frydrych.
She is survived by two daughters, Florence Robinson of Queens, N.Y. and Loraine Robson and husband Joseph of Ruckersville, two sons, Lawrence Frydrych and wife Susan of Columbia, Md. and Allen Frydrych and wife Donna of Weston, Ct.; a brother, Frank Churchman of Fenwick Island, Del. 8 grandchildren, Laura, Adam, Lynda, Lawren, Christina, Melissa, Sarah and Stephen. She also has 3 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday at St. Mary’s Church of Maturnity in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Monsenor Kulik will officiate.
