Edith W. Wright
Edith Willis Wright, 85, of Louisa, departed this life Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at the Louisa Health Care Center, Louisa. Born November 22, 1917, Edith was the daughter of the late James and Josephine Jones Willis and the wife of the late John Henry Wright.
She was a member of Peach Grove Baptist Church, Louisa.
She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, John Calvin, Sr. and Henry W., both of Orange, Roy O. of Gaston, Alabama and Rev. James William Wright of Charlottesville; one daughter, Frances of Alexandria; a special granddaughter and caregiver, Geraldine W. Shelton of Mineral; three daughters-in-law, Mildred and Mary Wright, both of Orange and Carolyn Wright of Charlottesville; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Willis and Nanny Wright, both of Louisa; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., today at Thomasson Funeral Home Chapel, Louisa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Peach Grove Baptist Church, Louisa. Rev. John C. Wright, Jr. will be officiating. There will be a viewing from 1-2 p.m. before service. Internment will follow at the Bright Hope Baptist Church cemetery.

Charles Avallone Sr.
Charles Anthony Avallone, Sr., 81, of Charlottesville, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at his residence.
Born August 9, 1921 in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Pasquale Avallone and Caroline Becker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Avallone.
He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Avallone and Tiesha Avallone; one son, Charles A. Avallone, Jr., and one brother, Patsy Avallone of NJ.
Mr. Avallone was a retied New York City Police Officer. He was also a WWII Navy Veteran.
Interment will take place at a later date at Culpeper National cemetery.

A funeral service for Margaret Elizabeth Darnell Baugher will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, at the Church of Our Saviour Episcopal Church with he Rev. Harold Hallock officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard.
Eleanorose B. Bradley
A funeral service for Eleanorose Boyle Bradley, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
Ernest F. Crane
Ernest Franklin Crane died on July 14, 2003 in Orange. Born April 10, 1928 on "Horseshoe" farm near Rapidan, Va. he was the next to youngest of eleven children born to the late Allie William and Bettie Lee Brown Crane. He leaves behind his wife, Peggy Newman Crane. Two sons, Jeffrey L. Crane and wife Kathy of Culpeper and Kevin S. Crane of Orange; Three Grandchildren, Daniel A. Crane and Elizabeth A. Crane of Culpeper and Christopher Crane of Orange. One surviving brother, Newton B. Crane and wife Alice of Culpeper.
Survivors also include sister-in-laws Barbara N. Bartley of Orange, Helen N. Piazza and husband Sal of revere, MA, Frances A. Newman of Rhodesville, Maxine B. Crane of Culpeper and Barbara M. Crane of True Blue; Brothers in law Carroll E. Newman of Topeka, KS and Robert Daggett of Kennebunkport, ME along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Upon his graduation from Orange High School in 1945, Ernest enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the Destroyer USS Meredith and witnessed the end of World War II. After the war Ernest developed a legacy on Main Street in Orange having been in business for over 50 years selling Esso, Exxon and Texaco products. He was an avid baseball fan and fisherman. Ernest was a former Little League coach and Scout master. He served as a Deacon for many years at the Orange Baptist Church, where he was a member. Ernest was a Charter member of the Orange Kiwanis Club and a Life Member of the Orange County Rescue Squad.
Pallbearers named are tom Woolfolk, Carter Jacobs, Buddy Shumate, Eugene Byrum, Royce Hughes, G.L. Haney, Jr., Pete Modena, and Steve Hopkins.
Services will be conducted by Dr. Stanley Johnson at the Orange Baptist Church on Friday, July 18, 2003 at 1 p.m. with interment in the Emanual Episopal cemetery in Rapidan. The family will receive friends will receive friends this evening from 7-9 p.m. July 17, 2003 at the Preddy Funeral Home in Orange.
Memorial contributions can be made of the Orange County Rescue Squad and the Hospice of the Rapidan.
William Christian Sr.
William "Bill" Edward Christian Sr. of 2821 Galts Mill Road, Madison Heights, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 11, 1953 the son of Harry B. Christian Sr. and the late Willie Mae Christian. He was the husband of Mrs. Joyce Christian and the stepson of Tracy Christian. He was also preceded in death by a son, Andrian Christian.
He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army and was a member of Scott Zion Baptist Church. He was an employee of Alliance Industrial in Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife, father, and stepmother, he is survived by his stepson, Rodney Mosley and a niece, Latysha Christian, both of the residence; two children, William Christian Jr., and Shanda Christian, both of Madison Heights; two grandchildren, Jade Grave and Victoria Mosley, both of Madison Heights; four brothers, Phillip Christian (Lee) of Charlottesville, Harold Christian (Lee) of Olathe, Kan., Harry Christian jr. (Gloria) of Wichita, Kan., and Randy Christian of Madison Heights; four sisters, Valerie Ashley, Sandra McDaniel, Paula Lewis, all of Madison Heights and Anita Franklin (Gregory) of Concord; a step-brother, Ryan Paige of Madison Heights; his mother and father-in-law, James and Bernice Young of Lynchburg; two brothers-in-law, Michael Rucker (Leslie) and Otis Rucker (Sherry), both of Madison Heights; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Jackson (Charles) and Michelle Thomas (Hubert) of Goldsboro, N.C.; one uncle, James Christian (Ann); four great uncles, six great aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday July 20, 2003 at Scott Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Alvin Edwards officiating. Internment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence. His remains can be viewed at the church one hour prior to the service.

Henry A. Denny
Henry A. Denny of Charlottesville died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at his home in University Village. Mr. Denny was born April 3, 1905 in Jonesville, VA (Lee County) to the late Marion and Della Denny.
He was raised from the age of eight in the Odd Fellows Home in Lynchburg, VA. He had a lifelong appreciation for the care and education he received at the Home and maintained close ties with those who were raised with him as well as those who cared for him. After graduating from Lynchburg High School in 1923 and leaving the Home, he attended Virginia Tech, graduating in 1927 with a BS in civil engineering. Later he completed Harvard’s Advanced Management program.
Mr. Denny worked for more than 30 years for Koppers Company, Inc. of Pittsburgh, PA, a builder of steel mills and chemical plants worldwide. His career took him all over the world and he retired in 1966 as Vice President of Koppers and General Manager of the Engineering and Construction Division.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Mensel Denny; a daughter, Gail Van Fossen of Charlottesville; a son, Tom Denny and his wife, Diane of Saratoga Springs, NY; five grandchildren, Scott Van Fossen, Jeff Van Fossen, Kate Van Fossen Hager and her husband, Jeff, Flannery Denny, and Brittany Denny; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Laura Denny and Grace Denny; and by his siblings, Tate Denny, Eula Denny, Alonzo Sprinkle, and Grace Denny Rader.
Mr. Denny was a past-president of the National Construction Association; a member of the Registered Professional Engineers of Pennsylvania and New York; a member of the National Association of Professional Engineers; American Society of Civil Engineers; the Pittsburgh Field Club; the Laurel Valley Golf Club, Duquesne Club of Pittsburgh and the Farmington Country Club of Charlottesville, VA. He served generously on community boards, including the Ross Township (PA) Planning Board and the Suburban General Hospital Board of Trustees, and others.

Frances F. Edmunds
Frances Fitzpatrick Edmunds, 97, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 in Waynesboro, Virginia.
She was born April 23, 1906 in Nelson County, VA, a daughter of John T. Fitzpatrick and Carrie Weldon Butts Fitzpatrick. She was a graduate of Randolph-Macon, and held at Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, the Waynesboro Garden Club, the Farmington Country Club of Charlottesville, and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Waynesboro Rotary Club.
Her husband, Felix E. Edmunds, preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1990. Her brother, Walter Carrington Fitzpatrick, and her sister, Mabel Walter Putney, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by a nephew, Walter C. Putney, Jr. of Reno, NV.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 18, at Riverview cemetery in Waynesboro by the Rev. William G. Wilson.
There will be no visitation or viewing.

Angelo J. Farruggio
Angelo Joseph Farruggio (Sonny) has passed from this world on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 after fighting a valiant 25-year battle with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia. He passed from our world to be with his Lord while his loving family was close by his side at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Angelo was born April 19, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. He was one of the three sons of Joseph and Gaetana Palmieri Farruggio, two Italian immigrants. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Farruggio. When of age, he signed up to serve his country in the United States Navy. He was a Korean War Veteran and he served in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown as a diesel mechanic. He retired after 25 years of dedicated employment as a steamfitter for the NYC Board of Education.
He leaves behind many who love him dearly. His wife of 41 years, Lorna Farruggio, his children, Michael and Jan Farruggio of Charlottesville, VA, Jim and Diane Farruggio of Richmond, VA; Tom and Carrie Farruggio of Palmyra, VA; Chris Farruggio of Richmond, VA; Janine and Glen Gustafson of Palmyra, VA; his niece Ingrid Maritato and her husband, Al of Patchogue, NY; his brother, John Farruggio of Middletown, NJ and lastly his thirteen beautiful grandchildren.
Angelo was a strong, ever present father figure. He was committed to his role as a father, husband, and as a steadfast Christian. He taught his children many lessons about God and family, selflessness, patriotism, and the old world values that made him a great man. He has succeeded in earning the love and respect of all who knew him. His children could not want for a better father.
A memorial service will be conducted at Effort Baptist Church on Route 53 in Fluvanna County on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. David Clay officiating. The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service.
A special thanks to the staff at UVA Medical Center for their kindness and warmth as they cared for Sonny in his many trips to the hospital.
In lieu of flowers, contribute donations to Effort Baptist Church Building Fund.
Family and friends will gather together in Palmyra immediately following the service at the home of Tom Farruggio.

Obea Daniel Glass, Sr.
Obea Daniel Glass, Sr., 71 of Faber, VA, died Wednesday, July 15, 2003.
Born June 4, 1932, in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late Clifford Edward Glass and Virginia Elizabeth Viar Glass.
He was a member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Faber Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Glass retired from Dawson Cabinet Shop after 46 years.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Alice Marie Shaver Glass; two sons, Obea D. Glass, Jr. of Faber and George Clifford Glass and wife, Chrissy of Esmont; three daughters, Janet Adkins and husband Ronald, Rosemary Johnson and husband Travis all of Faber and Tammy Thompson and husband Norman Graybill of Afton; one adopted daughter, Anita Rohr and husband Richard of Lovingston; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Shawn Johnson of Faber; Daniel and Matthew Glass of Esmont; Brandy Graybill of Afton; Samantha Glass of Charlottesville; and Skye Adkins of Faber; one great granddaughter, Amy Rohr of Lovingston; one brother, Gene Glass and wife Patsy of Faber; one half-sister, Polly Brown of Waynesboro and many nieces and nephews.

William Green Harlow, 67, native of Charlottesville, died Sunday, July 6, 2003.
Born August 9, 1935 to the late Carl Harlow and Ruby Harlow Craddock.
Survivors include his three sisters, Ruth, Shirley, and Arlene; one brother, Ronnie; one aunt, Pauline, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Florence Ray Johnson will be held 2 p.m. Today at Shiloh Baptist Church of which she was a member, with interment in the church cemetery. Pastor Harrison Williams will officiate.

Elsie L. Kube
Elsie Lancaster Kube, formerly of Mine Run, died July 16, 2003, at the Fredericksburg Nursing Home. Her husband was the late Clarence C. Kube.
Mrs. Kube was born September 14, 1907 in Orange County, daughter of Lucian Thomas and Margaret Webb Lancaster. She was a member and Sunday School teacher of Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are six sons; Edward of Rhoadsville, Ennis of Mechanicsville, Haywood, Wayne, Alvin and Johnny of Fredericksburg and one daughter, Adalene K. Peters of Palmyra, Va.
Also twenty-four grand children, 35 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, and one sister, Virginia L. Carter of Luray, Va.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Margaret Kube, Hazel K. McCord, and Marie K. Clarke; one grandchild, Krystal McCord Pleasants. Also four brothers; Linwood, Walter, Arlie and Melvin.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday July 18, 2003 at the Preddy Funeral Home in Orange. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 19, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Preddy Funeral Chapel in Orange; conducted by the Rev. Nancy Stanton-McDaniel and the Rev. Linda Ray.
