Funeral was Mar. 3 at 3 p.m. in Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. James Fain officiating. Burial was in Monta Vista Memory Gardens.

Billy Glenn Baumgardner, 71, of Galax, died Mar. 1, 2002, in Twin County Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Linnie Baumgardner; son and daughter-in-law. Eddie and Martha Baumgardner of Galax; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Doil Ammons of Hickory, NC; one granddaughter. Funeral was Mar. 3 at 4 p.m. in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Randy Key. Burial was in Monta Vista Cemetery.
ROBERT C. BROWDER
Robert Claude Brownder, 85, of Hillsville, died Mar. 1, 2002, in Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem. He is survived by his wife, Alma Lee Browder; sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie and Tonya Browder of Jeff, KY, John and Linda Browder of Hillsville, Fred and Vickie Browder of Aiken, SC; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Funeral was Mar. 3 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Stephenson officiating. Burial was in the Browder Cemetery.

Wendy Lewis (Wendy) Dalton, 79, of Woodlawn, died Mar. 3, 2002, in Twin County Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Helena L. Dalton; sisters, Tresea Kinder of Dublin and Millie Bolding of Lake City, FL; brother, Elwood Dalton of Radford. A grave side service was held Mar. 5 at 1 p.m. in Monta Vista Cemetery with Everett Cox and the Rev. Charles Smythers officiating. Military Rites were conducted by Hillsville VFW Post 1115.

Linda Darlene Farmer, 52, of Galax, died Feb. 28, 2002, in Twin County Regional Hospital. She is survived by her mother, Dell Farmer of Galax; sisters, Carolyn Cook of Lawrenceville, GA, Kathy Berger of Yuma, AZ and Andrea Smith of Galax. Funeral was March 3 at 2 p.m. in Snow Hill Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ernie Smith. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Emma Jane Kemp, 71, of Barren Sprigns, died Feb. 27, 2002, in New River Valley Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, Malcolm Wythe Kemp; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Sue Tabor of Christiansburg and Bessie Ellen and Bobby Pence of Dublin; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randall Wythe and Sherry Kemp, Bernard French and Rebecca Kemp all of Barren Springs; Donnie Keith and Charmayne Kemp of Pulaski; sister, Peggy Clark of Pulaski; two brothers, Ralph Bond and Fred Bond both of Sylvatus; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Funeral was Mar. 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville with the Rev. Dale Akers and the Rev. J.B. Lineberry officiating. Burial was in the Bond Cemetery.
GEORGE J. LAWSON
George Jackson Lawson, 84, of Galax, died Feb. 27, 2002, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Florence Burcham Lawson; sons and daughters-in-law, Junior and Mary Lawson of Fries, Billy Lawson, Sterling and Pam Lawson all of Galax; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral was March 1 at 11 a.m. in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Bobby Burcham and the Rev. James Cowley.Burial was in Monta Vista Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Hillsville VFW Post 1115.
CECIL L. MARTIN
Cecil Lewis Martin, 74, of Galax, VA, known to family and friends as C.L., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002. He was born on Dec. 25, 1927 in the Patterson community of Wythe County. C.L. was the son of the late Orba Chester "O.C." Martin and Norma Alverta McGrady Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille "Lucy" Hash Martin. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Louise Martin of Woodbridge, VA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Millie and Bud Feuer and Lois and Ed Hastings of Roanoke, VA; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Pat Martin of Galax, VA; five grandchildren, Jessica McClanahan, Amanda Martin, Jason Martin, Nicolette Martin and Emiley Martin. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. C.L. worked along with his father and mother in establishing Martin's Flowers and Greenhouses as a premier industry in Galax. During his horticulture career, he held memberships in the Society of American Florists, The Ohio State Growers Association and the Tri-St e Flower Growers Association in which he held the office of president. The family received friends on Sunday, Mar. 3, 2002 from 12:30-3 p.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel. The funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. by Dr. Thomas J. Whartenby. Grave side services were conducted at 10 a.m. at Felts Memorial Cemetery on Monday, Mar. 4, 2002.
CLARA B. NESTER
Clara Bell Nester, 81, of Woodlawn, died Mar. 1, 2002, in Twin County Regional Hospital. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Haywood Hawks of Cana, Joyce and James Turman Jr. and Brenda Liddle all of Hillsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Reva Nester of Hillsville, Roy and Cindy Nester of Glendale, AZ; three brothers, Hallie Williams of Galax, Oren Williams of Vinton and Willie Williams of Dugspur; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two step grandchildren. Funeal was Mar. 4 at 11 a.m. in Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. Dale Akers officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Cemetery.

Joy Parrish, 49, of Roanoke, died Feb. 25, 2002, in Roanoke. She is survived by a daughter, Denise Burcham of Leesburg; parents, J. Clayton and Beulah R. Jones of Galax; sisters, Barbara LaPardd of Kansas, Linda Fanney of Virginia Beach and Debbie Hampton of Fries; brother, John Jones, Jr. of Christiansburg; two grandchildren. A memorial service was held Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Marion officiating.

Nancy Ann Reed, 67, of Fries, died Mar. 1, 2002, in Twin County Regional Hospital. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Scotty Vaughan of Fries; sisters, Jenny Moore, Vera Copeland, Judy Lawson and Elizabeth Anderson all of Fries; brothers, Sanders Moore, Eugene Moore and Peary Moore all of Fries, Emmitte Moore of Winston-Salem, NC, James and Pat Moore of Summerville, SC, Steve and Nancy Moore of Charleston, WV; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren. A grave side service was held Mar. 4 in Mount Hope Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Taylor officiating.
JAMES RICHARDSON, SR.
Mr. James Marvin Richardson, Sr., age 69, of 615 Sunset Dr., Cana, VA, widower of Phyllis Mae Biddle Richardson, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at his home. Mr. Richardson was born March 15, 1932, in Carroll County, VA to the late William Houston and Mickey Ethel Phillips Richardson. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict, retired from J.R. Lynch and Sons and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mickey and Tom Cossitt of Weston, OR; five sons and a daughter-in-law, James (Jr.) and Pam Richardson of Sprague, WA, William "Billy" Richardson and Bobby Richardson, both of Portland, OR, Thomas Richardson and friend, Ann Puckett and Michael Richardson and friend Fran Shuler, all of Cana, VA; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Billy Moxley and Annie and Robert Easter, all of Cana, VA and two brothers, Berlie Richardson and Clinton Richardson both of Cana, VA. In a dition to his wife and parents, Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Ray Richardson. The funeral service was held Friday, March 1, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy. The service was conducted by the Rev. Davie "Buster" Sechrist. Burial was in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Full Military Rites were conducted by VFW Post 1115, Hillsville, VA. The family received friends Thursday night from 7-9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy and at other times at the home of Berlie Richardson, 522 Sunset Dr., Cana, VA.

Robert Jefferson Sexton, 90, of Galax, died Feb. 26, 2002, in Waddell Nursing Home. He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Rose Sexton of Galax; sisters, Vera Talley of Galax and Alma Summer of Mt. Airy, NC. Funeral was Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. in Meadow Creek Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Murphy and the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
