Robert Percy Thomas
Robert "Bobby" Percy Thomas, 84, of Charlottesville, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2003, in a local hospital.
Born in Fluvanna County on July 24, 1918, he was the son of the late Linwood Early and Clara Hicks Thomas. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wade and Stanley Thomas, three sisters, Irma Bower, Dorothy Sibley, and Louise Brown.
Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Army Calvary Division during World War II seeing action in Burma, Thailand and India. He retired after 50 years from City Mortgage & Insurance Company and was owner/operator of the Foal Run Saddlery in Charlottesville. He also attended South Plains Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one son, Robert W. Thomas and his wife, Anita, of Troy, Va.; a grandson, Robert E. Thomas of Newport News, and a niece and two nephews.
Family will receive friends on Monday, July 28, 2003, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home.
At Mr. Thomas’s request there will be no funeral service.

Joseph O. Wingfield
Joseph Oscar Wingfield left us July 19, 2003, in Florence, S.C. Angela Shull Wingfield will be receiving family and friends at 5541 Jefferson Mill Rd., Scottsville, Va. Sunday, July 27, at 3 p.m.
Daris Woodfolk
Daris Woodfolk, "Woody" 58, of Greene County, VA. departed this life on Tuesday, July 22, 2003. He was born in Greene County on October 18, 1944 the son of Bessie Mallory Woodfolk and the late Robert Woodfolk. He was the husband of Phyllis Buckner Woodfolk.
He was a former technician for Technicolor, a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Burley High School. He was a loving supportive companion, a loving father, and a devoted son who possessed a great sense of humor.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Phyllis Buckner, his mother, Bessie Mallory Woodfolk, one adopted daughter, Lia Buckner Williams, and one grandson, Markel Williams, all of Greene County; four sisters, Rosa Johnson and her husband, Joe, Mary Walker "Bobbie", Bessie Conway, and Viola Woodfolk all of Charlottesville, VA.; one brother, Curtis Woodfolk of Baltimore, MD; one brother-in-law, Dennis Dickerson of Charlottesville; three sisters-in-law, Delores Buckner of Greene County, Rebecca Buckner Dickey and Mary Buckner both of Atlanta, GA; three brothers-in-law, James Buckner, Thomas Buckner "T.W.", and Anthony Dickey all of Atlanta, GA; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Evergreen Bibleway Church cemetery, 1576 Evergreen Road Louisa, Va. with Elder Steve Mason officiating.

Katherine S. Chase
Katherine Gay Stout Chase, born 1906, in Plymouth Indiana, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at her home.
She is survived by a brother, Roger Stout of Davie, Fl.; a daughter; Anne Gay Chase of Richmond, VA, three grandsons; Richard Applegate, John Applegate and Nicholas Applegate all of Richmond, and a great grandson; Morgan Applegate also of Richmond, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private at Grace Church in Cismont.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army, 207 Ridge Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
Walter M. Collins
A funeral service for Walter M. Collins will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Teague Chapel with Mr. Jackie Houchens officiating.
Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.

DAVID B. DANSEY
David Brantly Dansey, 38, of Scottsville, died Sunday July 20, 2003 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Ann Loving Dansey; three daughters, Emily Loving Dansey, Virginia Brantly Dansey, and Olivia Ann Dansey; his parents, George W. Dansey and Jean M. Dansey; a brother, Douglas W. Dansey; a sister, Daphne Jung; and an uncle, E. Leroy Dansey.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 24, 2003 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Scottsville, with the Reverend Dr. J. Edwin Pippin and the Reverend Peter Way officiating. Interment
will follow in Scottsville cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of David and Ann Dansey on Wednesday, July 23 between 7:00 and 8:30 pm.

Madeline Mayo Jones
Mrs. Madeline "Myrtle" Mayo Jones, 66, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at her home.
She was born August 9, 1936, to the late Samuel Bennett Mayo and Myrtle Eubanks Mayo. She attended school in Schuyler, Va.
Mrs. Jones was a devoted wife and mother. Upon her husband's retirement from the Army, the family moved to Schuyler, Va.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Cosby Arthur Jones Jr.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Sterling R. Jones and Ame L. Jones of Lovingston, Va., Anson T. Jones and Angela J. Jones of Shipman, Va., and Cosby Arthur Jones, III, and Michelle D. Jones of Vero Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Ms. Earsline Poindexter of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Cornelia Redd and Wallace Redd of Waynesboro, Va., Mrs. Laverne Lewis and Marcellos Lewis of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary Smith and Sam Smith of Faber, Va.; one brother, Mr. Wendell Mayo and Judy Mayo of Schuyler, Va.; a special niece, Ms. "Little Mary" Randolph of Charlottesville, Va.; five grandchildren, Shawn Lamar Jones of Shipman, Va., Gabrielle Marie Jones and Victoria Lauren Jones of Vero Beach, Fla., and Breanna Lyn Jones and John Mackenzie Jones of Lovingston, Va.; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Early Lawson
Early Lawson, 85, of Barboursville passed away July 21, 2003 in Charlottesville. He was born September 2, 1917 in Greene County, a son of the late, Gaines and Sally Ann Davis Lawson.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet McSwingan of Park Hill, Ky. and Beverly Bibb of Charlottesville.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Merriette W. Moore
Merriette Wade Moore, 81, formerly of Schuyler, died Tuesday July 22, 2003 at Lovingston Health Care Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Shelton Moore and Maybell Wade Moore and 5 brothers, Goldman, Donald, Kimball, Ralston and John Moore.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elsie Fitzgerald Moore; 1 daughter, Debra Worley and her husband Ernest of Arrington; a sister-in-law, Lily Tyler and her husband, "Jr."; their daughter, Connie and her daughter, Caleigh, who was loved by Merriette like a daughter.
Mr. Moore was the General Superintendent for Georgia Marble until 1972 and he then retired in 1983 from the University of Virginia as an electrician. He was a faithful member of New Faith United Methodist Church, Schuyler.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, with the Reverend Richard Darnell officiating.
Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens, Charlottesville.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Jacob W. Wood
Jacob Watts Wood, 75, of Haughton, La. died Sunday July 20, 2003 at his home. He was the son of the late Frank L. Wood, Sr. and Bertha A. Wood.
He was preceded in death by his brother Frank L. Wood Jr. June 15, 2003, his brother-in-law Charles E. Black May 10, 2003, his sister-in-law Dorothy C. Wood July 10, 2003. He was also preceded in death by a half sister Ila N. Werner. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou Eisner Wood of Haughton; a son Frank Robert Wood of Fridley, Mn.; A beloved sister Bettie Wood Black of Charlottesville; a niece, Sandra Everton and her family of the Charlottesville area; a step-daughter Mary Todd of Haughton; three step-sons, Donnie Todd of Haughton, Rey Rivera and Joe Rivera of Arizona.
A memorial service will be held at Chapel One Barksdale Air Force Base Saturday, July 26th at 10 a.m.
Theodore R. Bland
Chaplain Theodore (Ted) Roosevelt Bland of Kents Store, Va. died July 18, 2003 at his home. He attended school in Fluvanna County and later served in the United States Air Force. After retiring from the military, he married
Marjorie Ann Price and shared that union for forty years. He received a Bachelor of Biblical Studies from Carolina University of Theology and worked for the District of Columbia, Department of Human Services as an Alcoholism Counselor until his retirement in 1993 when he relocated to Fluvanna County and began work as a Chaplain for The Good News Jail and Prison Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Ann Bland, two brothers Philip and Samuel Bland. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, C. Denise Bowles (Ricky) and Cordelia and Dwight Bland; 13 grandchildren; three sisters Catherine McCowin, Alease Cousins and Ruth Megginson; four brothers Lynn, James, Presley and Shakespear Bland; four sisters-in-law, Lorraine Farrar, Mattie Price, Dora Price, and Lucy Bland; five brothers-in-law, Allen McCowin, Kenneth Cousins Sr., Leroy Price and Carlton Farrar; two aunts; one uncle, and host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 23, 2003 1 p.m. at the Galilee Baptist Church with Rev. Otis Spellman officiating. Remains will lie in state at the church from 12 noon until time of funeral.

Walter M. Collins
Walter McKinley Collins, 86, of North Garden, died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at the home of his granddaughter.
Born March 4, 1917, he was the son of the late Thomas Collins and Susan Minnie Bowman Collins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ethel Alma Inscore Collins; one sister, Betty Lou Thomas; one brother, Harry Collins; and one granddaughter, Judy Collins.
Mr. Collins owned and operated Collins Supermarket in North Garden from 1958 – 1982. He was a member of Hardware Baptist Church and a past member of the Gideons.
He is survived by four daughters, Yvonne Shaver and husband, Charles; Nadine Dudley and husband Arnold; Sue Dudley and husband, Robert; and Vickie Dolan and husband, Robert; one son, Gray Collins and wife, Sylvia; five sisters, Shirley Bowman, Jean Scott, Irene Bowman, Alpha Collins, and Georgia Puckett; two brothers, Clifford Collins and Thurman Collins; fourteen grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Michelle Dudley, Bradley Shaver, Pamela Haney, Christopher Shaver, Megan Dudley, Robbie Dudley, Jonathan Dudley, Lisa Shifflett, Glenn Dudley, Shawn Dudley, Ronnie Collins, Keith Collins, Angela Dolan, and Bobby Dolan; twenty great-grandchildren, including a special great-grandson, Trevor Jones; and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Teague Chapel with Mr. Jackie Houchens officiating.
Family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home. Interment
will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
