Sue Payne
Cora Sue Payne, 59, of 341 Wrenn Drive, died suddenly Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 3, 1938, in Danville, she was the daughter of Harry Terrell, who survives, and Ruth Gosney Terrell.
On Aug. 10, 1955, she was married
to Archie E. Payne, who survives.
She spent her entire life in Danville, where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Glen Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence and her father of Danville, survivors include her daughter, Robin P. Taylor of Danville; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Anne Payne.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Irma Yarbrough
Irma Smith Yarbrough, 85, formerly of 656 Shelton St., died Sunday morning, Dec. 28, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Mrs. Yarbrough was born May 28, 1912, in Halifax County, Virginia, the daughter of Elisha C. Smith and Mary Wilson Smith, who are both predeceased.
She was married
Oct. 24, 1941, to Nelson Clyde Yarbrough, who predeceased her July 27, 1948.
Mrs. Yarbrough was a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church. She worked for the Danville Knitting Mill for more than 20 years. Mrs. Yarbrough retired from Hall's Pastry in 1974.
Mrs. Yarbrough is survived by: a daughter, Nell Y. Hylton of Danville; a son-in-law, John W. Hylton of Danville; two granddaughters, Robyn H. Keller and Carole O. Hoskins, both of Danville; three great-granddaughters, Kaylin Osborne, Heather Hoskins and Rebekah Hoskins, all of Danville; and one great-grandson, Nathan Keller of Danville.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Wimbush W. Smith, Stanley Smith, Billy Smith, Frank Smith and Causie Smith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Richard Cobb will be conducting the services. Interment
will follow at Leemont cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 29, 1997, at Townes Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at the daughter's residence, 3741 R&L Smith Drive, in the Mount Hermon community off of Route 41.
Glenn Annas
Funeral services for Robert Glenn Annas, 90, of 3361 Horseshoe Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
He died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, in Martinsville Memorial Hospital after eight years of declining health.
Born Aug. 27, 1907, in Caldwell County, N.C., he was a son of John Annas and Mary Beane Annas.
On April 19, 1953, he was married
to Cloice Wright Annas.
He lived in Charlotte, N.C., for 40 years prior to moving to Danville in 1994. He was retired from Hall Oil Company in Charlotte, where he worked as a salesman.
He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte, where he had taught Sunday School for more than 15 years.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four daughters, Patricia "Patti" A. Smith of Danville, Velma A. Townsend of Boyertown, Pa., Shirley A. Cline of Conover, N.C., and Shelba Jean A. Turner of Lenior, N.C.; two sons, M. Larry Annas of Hickory, N.C., and Hugh O. Annas of Lenior, N.C.; three brothers, Lindsey Annas of Phoenix, Ariz., Howard Annas of Lenior, N.C., and Lewis Annas of Hudson, N.C.; and 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, R.G. Annas Jr.; two daughters, Mary A. Stoerrle and Donna A. Howell; and eight brothers.
Larry Ferguson
Funeral services for Larry G. Ferguson, 66, of 213 Ethel Ct., Westover Hills, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. William C. Blalock. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
He died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a two year decline in health.
Born Nov. 11, 1931, in the Cascade community of Pittsylvania County, he was a son of William R. Ferguson and Pearl Williams Ferguson.
He was married
to Amanda Hines Ferguson, who survives.
He was a graduate of Brosville High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the maintenance department of Dan River Inc. for a number of years until his health failed. He attended Woodlawn Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Barry L. Ferguson of Roanoke; a sister, Rebecca Ferguson Medford of Martinsville; and a brother, John Ferguson of Kannapolis, N.C. He was predeceased by three brothers.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Haywood Graves
Haywood Allen Graves "Daddy Graves", 64, 3221 Richmond Road, died Friday afternoon, Dec. 26, 1997, at his residence.
Born Jan. 12, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Rosa Lee Graves.
Most of his life was spent in Pittsylvania County, where he was employed at P. Lorillard Tobacco Company for 35 years before retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Saunders Wilson and Richard Ferrell, both of Danville; two brothers, Nathaniel Graves Sr. of Danville and Eugene M. Graves of Blackstone; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home by the Rev. Edward Pope. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Virginia Martin
Virginia Mills Martin, 84, Roman Eagle Nursing Home, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at her residence.
Born Jan. 27, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William Thomas Mills and Bettie Hoskins Mills.
She was married
to Lee Roy Martin, who died Dec. 25, 1968.
A resident of Danville for most of her life, she worked for Dan River Inc., from 1925 to 1962.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a number of nieces.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Cleo Hundley.

Roosevelt Bobbitt
HURT - Roosevelt Bobbitt, 78, 812 Delta Drive, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at his residence.
Born Sept. 12, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Walter Bobbitt and Jessie Miller Bobbitt.
He was married
to Estelle Bobbitt, who survives.
He was a retired employee of the Lane Company.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board and as treasurer of the Benevolent Fund.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Tony Crews of Hurt; a daughter, Louise Hunt of the residence; three brothers, Ocie Bobbitt of Buffalo, N.Y., and Frank Bobbitt of Akron, Ohio, and James Bobbitt of Staunton; a sister, Doretha B. Poteete of Akron, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Ryland Bobbitt and Roy Bobbitt.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Nathaniel Jones. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Cecil Conner Sr.
Cecil Ray Conner Sr., 53, 4836 Mount Cross Road, died suddenly Dec. 30, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Room.
Born April 15, 1944, in Cedar Grove, W.Va., he was a son of Cecil Paul Conner and Ardit Lillie Conner, who survives.
On Oct. 26, 1968, he was married
to Verna Clay Conner, who also survives.
A resident of Pittsylvania County for most of his life, he was employed by Bell Atlantic as a system's technician. He had worked with the company for 30 years.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and Bell Atlantic Pioneers.
He served in Germany with the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Charleston, W.Va., survivors include two sons, Cecil Ray Conner Sr. and Cameron Paul Conner, both of Danville; a daughter, Holly Michelle Conner of the residence; and a grandchild.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother, Jerry Lee Conner.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Gil Hawks.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Calvin Flinn
CHARLOTTESVILLE - Calvin Maurice Flinn, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at his home.
Born in Danville, he was the son of Ethel Graham and Calvin Maurice Flinn.
He was married
for 51 years to Martha "Patsy" Flinn, who predeceased him.
He was educated at Danville Military Institute and Danville Public Schools. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Virginia, and in 1946, he graduated from the University of Virginia Law School.
He practiced law in Baltimore with the firm of Semmes, Bowen and Semmes until he moved to Charles County, Md., in 1950, where he was a senior partner in the law firm of Mudd and Mudd. He retired in 1982.
He served as vice president of the Maryland State Bar Association and as president of the Charles County Bar Association.
He practiced in the state and federal courts of Maryland, was a permanent member of the Annual Fourth Federal Circuit Court of Appeals Judicial Conference, a member of the United States District and Supreme Court Bars and a member of the Maryland Bar Foundation Inc.
He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation cadet. He served as pilot of a torpedo plane in the Pacific theater, and later as an Air Combat Intelligence Officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway.
He was a member of Virginia Society and served as chairman of property and finance committee and solicitor of General Society. He also served on board of directors of Chamber of Commerce and Hospice of the Piedmont.
He was president of Indian Head Businessmen's Association, chairman of Charles County Chapter of American Red Cross and president of Wicomico Hunt and Hawthorne Country Clubs.
He was member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Ivy.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Bradley of Franklin, Tenn., and Lucy Flinn of Richmond; and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Ivy, by the Rev. Miller Hunter. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount View cemetery in Danville.
