Ricky Walker
RIDGEWAY - Ricky Leonard Walker, 43, 2267 Moorehead Ave., died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, in a car accident that occurred in Alamance County, N.C.
Born Sept. 19, 1954, in Danville, he was a son of Harry Leonard Walker and Ruby Mae Collins Walker.
He spent most of his life in Danville and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Branch Highways.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include two sons, Jason Walker of Dry Fork, and Joshua Walker of Danville; two sisters, Vicky Dawson of Danville, and Dessie Reiter of King, N.C.; four brothers, Nathan Duncan of Martinsville, Eddie Walker of Ridgeway, Glenn Walker of Danville, and Randy Walker of Newport News; and one grandchild.
He was predeceased by a brother, Brian Keith Walker; and a daughter, Rebecca Walker.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the home of his son, Joshua Walker, 1598 Ferry Road.
Earl Walton
Earl Clayton Walton, 69, of 139 Martin Ave., died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center after a brief decline in health.
Born April 13, 1928, in the Mount Hermon community of Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James Taylor Walton and Etta Thomas Farthing Walton.
On June 3, 1950, he was married
to Frances Chenault Walton.
He lived all his life in Danville. He was retired from Schewel Furniture Company, where he worked in the complaint department.
He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, where he served as president of the Men's Bible Class.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Germany.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons; Larry C. Walton of Danville, Michael L. Walton of Keeling and David W. Walton of Blairs; a brother, Cliff Walton of Stoneville, N.C.; two sisters, Lillian W. Powell of Whitmell and Adele W. Morris of Pelham, N.C.; a half-sister, Elsie W. Hardy of Martinsville; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Don Davidson and the Rev. Geary Walton. Interment
will be in the Danville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 325.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, Larry C. Walton, 11 Brown Lane, Danville.
Matilda Allen
MARTINSVILLE - Matilda Cabiness Allen has died.
Born Aug. 3, 1902, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Sam Cabiness and Amanda Cabiness.
She was married
to John F. Allen, who predeceased her.
She was a member of New Design Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Rausbin A. Wilson of Axton; a son, John Edward Allen of Martinsville; a sister, Hattie Wilson of Axton; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Isabelle A. Morrison.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Design Baptist Church by the Rev. Dwight Mack. Burial will be in the Hampton and Cabiness Family cemetery in Axton.

Jeanette Allison
GRETNA - Jeanette Lamkin Allison, 91, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born July 4, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Paul Lamkin Sr. and Fannie Burch Lamkin.
She was married
to John William Allison, who predeceased her.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gretna and Fidelis Sunday school class.
She was a retired employee of Southern Railroad.
Survivors include four nieces, Betty Motley Glore, Jean Murphy Baptist, Anna Lee Johnson and Gail Wade; and two nephews, V.A. Motley Jr. and P.A. Murphy Jr.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Annie Murphy, Alice Motley and Helen Andrews; and two brothers, Custis Lee Lamkin and John Paul Lamkin Jr.
She is survived by six nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gretna Burial Park by the Rev. Glenn Graves.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery.

Linda Bowen
Linda Townsend Bowen, 53, 3701 U.S. 29N, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at her residence following 10 months of declining health.
Born Sept. 12, 1944, in Danville, she was a daughter of Thelma McCubbins Townsend and Herbert Marvin Townsend, who survives.
A life long resident of Danville, she worked for Dan River Inc. in the accounts receivable department.
She was a graduate of George Washington High School, and was a member of Sheva Church of Christ.
In addition to her father of Chatham, survivors include two daughters, Kimberly B. Webb and Jennifer B. Bowen, both of Danville; a sister, Alice T. Wagner of Chatham; her stepmother, Edna E. Townsend of Chatham; and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, by the Rev. Dean Lamphere. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Scott and Debbie McNealy, 217 Swain Drive, off North Main Street.
Delores Cobbs
Delores Ellen Cobbs, 51, 175 Epps St., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at her residence.
Born March 12, 1946, in Danville, she was a daughter of Joshua Robertson and Dorothy Russell Robertson, who survives.
She was employed as a nursing assistant for many years.
In addition to her mother of Danville, survivors include a son, James Cobbs III of Danville; a daughter, Wendy Cobbs of Danville; two sisters, Patricia Thomas and Sheila Holmes, both of Danville; a brother, Gregory Robertson of Danville; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church by the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Passie Furgurson
Passie F. Furgurson, 89, formerly of 681 Franklin St., died Sunday night, Sept. 21, 1997, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born in Durham, N.C., she was the daughter of Joseph J. Ferguson and Stella Sugg Ferguson.
She was married
to Ernest B. "Pat" Furgurson, who died Sept. 3, 1992.
She was a life long member of College Park Baptist Church, formerly Lee Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest B. "Pat" Furgurson Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Roger G. Furgurson of Williamsburg; a niece, Mary Ellen Davis of Danville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in Greenhill cemetery by Dr. Michael Rockwell.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main St.
Leslie Harris
Leslie "Bud" Harris, 76, of 187 Ficklen Ave., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after a short illness and a hospital stay since Friday, Sept. 19, 1997.
Mr. Harris was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, on April 13, a son of the late Albert Harris and Sallie Pillar Harris Evans.
Mr. Harris was married
to Nadine Brooks Harris, who survives. They were married
on March 7, 1944.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Leslie Cornelia Harris; and also a brother, Berkley Harris; and two sisters, Gracie Myers and Essie Yates.
Mr. Harris was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
He spent most of his life in Danville and lived at the Ficklen Avenue residence for 46 years, and was a member of the American Legion memorial post #325, where he was a past commander, and he was of the Christian faith. He was a representative for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 13 years before retiring on disability.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence include a son, K. Dale Harris and a daughter-in-law, Karen Clifton Harris, both of Bassett; two sisters, Dorothy Davis and Louise Colvard, both of Danville; and two grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Harris and Megan Elizabeth Harris, both of Bassett.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. today at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks. Military Honors will be performed by the American Legion Memorial Post #325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 187 Ficklen Ave.

David Horn
David Vance Horn, 90, 24 Ashlawn Drive, died Monday morning, Sept. 22, 1997, at his residence following a decline in health since 1992.
Born July 26, 1907, in Sullivan County, Tenn., he was a son of Thomas David Horn and Maggie Agee Horn.
He was married
to Mamie Ingle Horn, who died in 1956. He was later married
to Virgie Lancaster Horn, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he worked for Dan River Inc., as a security guard before his retirement.
He was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Monroe Horn of Danville, Floyd Horn of Blountville, Tenn., and Frank W. Horn of Ringgold; two daughters, Pauline Beame of Danville and Maggie Goodman of Providence, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Gloria Blake of New Jersey; two brothers, Paul Horn of Richmond and Bernard Horn of Blountville, Tenn.; three sisters, Jewel Hughes of Blountville, Tenn., Louellen Bailey of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Helen Maddux of Knoxville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he was predeceased by a son, Thomas David Horn; three brothers, Bill Horn, Frank Horn and Albert Horn; a sister, Annie Horn; a stepson, Sonny Stowe; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Boulevard Church of God by the Rev. John H. Meadows. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the church, and other times at the residence.
