Lillie Lawson
Lillie Harris Lawson, 85, 898 Monroe St., died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 23, 1911, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late John Harris, Cora Harris and Adeline Harris. She was married
to Morris Lawson, who predeceased her.
Survivors include a daughter, Andean Harris, of the residence; a son, John Lawson, of the residence; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Lovell Maxwell. Interment
will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Mary Oakes
DRY FORK - Mary Haley Oakes, 79, 133 Holly Village Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born June 24, 1918, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Benjamin Pate Haley and Nannie Kate Donley Haley.
She was married
to Ben Raymond Oakes, who predeceased her.
She is survived by two sisters, Emory Weatherford of Milton, N.C., and Maggie Hall of Dry Fork.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boones Chapel Church cemetery by the Rev. James Albert.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Gay Adkins, 13280 Martinsville Road, Lot #19.

Mable Powell
MARTINSVILLE - Mable Myrtle Powell, 51, 104 Moss St., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born Sept. 14, 1946, in Henry County, she was the daughter of Irene Minter Powell and Raleigh H. Powell, who survive.
She attended the Words of Life Chapel.
In addition to her parents of Martinsville, she is survived by two daughters, Rose Marie Harris of Eden, N.C., and Susan Loretta Dixon of Martinsville; a son, Jessie Donald "Bo" Richards Jr. of Eden, N.C.; a sister, Shirley May Overby of Eden, N.C.; three brothers, the Rev. Eugene Powell of Danville, Leroy William Powell of Ridgeway and Edward Ray Powell of Eden, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from Words of Life Chapel. Interment
will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Tomlinson Funeral Home in Ridgeway.
Willie Paul Jr.
SUTHERLIN - Willie Oscar Paul Jr., 65, 3045 Brooklyn Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at his residence following four months of declining health.
Born Feb. 27, 1932, in Danville, he was a son of Willie Oscar Paul Sr. and Fannie Wilson Paul.
On July 16, 1975, he was married
to Bernice Johnson Paul, who survives.
He had lived most of his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. For the past 12 years, he had lived in Halifax County.
He was vice president of Paul's Automotive and Chemical Company, and had served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Willie Oscar Paul III and Michael Wayne Paul, both of Danville, and Richard Michael McDaniel of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; three daughters, Jean Paul Dabbs, Vickie Paul Hill and Carolyn Paul Howell, all of Danville; three brothers, Roy L. Paul of Ringgold, and Raymond L. Paul and James E. Paul, both of Danville; a sister, Elizabeth P. Adams of Greensboro, N.C.; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, by the Rev. Tommy London, assisted by the Rev. R.J. Barber.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his brother, James E. Paul, 311 Woodside Road in Green Acres off of South Boston Road.
James Wrigglesworth Sr.
James Edwin Wrigglesworth Sr., 57, of Danville, formerly of Victoria, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997.
He was a son of John A. and Margaret V. Wrigglesworth.
He was an employee of Danville Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include a son, James E. Wrigglesworth Jr. of South Hill; two sisters, Betty Jean W. Clarke of Colonial Heights and Edwina W. Garrett of Madison Heights; and a brother, Wayne Wrigglesworth of Hopewell.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Staples Funeral Home in Victoria. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery in Victoria.
The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Darla Wright
MECHANICSVILLE - Darla Hunt Wright, 10402 Chamberlayne Road, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997.
Born July 15, 1956, in Richmond, she was a daughter of Richard Haynes and Vera Dean Hunt, who survives.
She was married
to Kurt Wayne Wright, who survives.
She was employed at Electric Equipment Company in Richmond.
In addition to her husband of Mechanicsville and her mother of Nathalie, survivors include a brother, Carol Johnson Hunt Jr. of St. Louis; and a sister, Samantha Hunt of Wilmington, N.C.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Kerns Memorial United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Keith Reynolds.
The family will receive friends 12-1:30 p.m. Thursday at Townes Funeral Home.
Mary Holbrook
Mary Louise Holbrook, 69, 322 Wrenn Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at her residence.
Born Feb. 10, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Mich., she was a daughter of Pembrook Blakemore and Stella Blakemore Mansel.
On Sept. 13, 1948, she was married
to Otto Marvin Holbrook, who survives.
She had lived in Montclair, Calif., before moving to Danville, where she lived for 19 years.
She had worked with Brockway Glass Company in California before moving to Danville, where she had worked for 15 years in the Danville plant until her retirement.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Stephen S. Holbrook of Danville; and a sister, Theresa Ziuraitis of Grand Rapids, Mich.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park by Father David McGuire.

Jean Hundley
Jean Willis Hundley, 64, 1957 Blair Loop Road, died Thursday morning, Oct. 2, 1997, at her residence after a decline in health since January 1997.
Born Sept. 5, 1933, in Floyd County, she was a daughter of Thomas Lee Willis and Fannie Young Willis Stout, who survives.
She was married
to James Edward McDaniel Sr., who died on July 2, 1965. She was later married
to the Rev. Gilmore Hundley, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County.
She worked for the Danville Public School System, and she previously was a co-owner of Hundley's Body Shop.
She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, where she was a member of the ladies' circle.
In addition to her mother of Danville and husband of the residence, survivors include a son, James Edward McDaniel of Danville; a daughter, Wanda Gail Hodges of Danville; two brothers, the Rev. Tommy Willis of Graham, N.C., and Elmer Willis of Cascade; four sisters, Betty W. Bray of Cascade, Nelda W. Harris of Gatewood, N.C., Shirley W. Robinson of Baltimore and Glenda W. Myers of New York; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Jean Levonne Warner.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Shermont Baptist Church by the Rev. Bill Soyars and the Rev. Tommy Willis. Burial will be in the Hundley Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the church, and other times at the residence.

Claiborne 'C.W.' McGuire
Claiborne Washington "C.W." McGuire, 93, 18 Dula St., died Wednesday evening, Oct. 1, 1997, at his residence following a decline in health since June 1997.
Born July 17, 1904, in Washington County at Wallace, he was a son of Cornelius McGuire and Mary Ingle McGuire.
On Sept. 7, 1925, he was married
to Frances Smith McGuire, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he retired in 1969 from Dan River Inc.
During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Gethsemane Wesleyan Church on Dula Street.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Joan King of Danville; a brother, Millard McGuire of Danville; two sisters, Hazel Bailey of Keeling and Gladys Bailey of Ruffin, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Claude Junior McGuire; and by a grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Paul Ray and the Rev. David Wilson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be performed by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
