Joseph Doss Sr.
Joseph Vincent Doss Sr., 93, 220 Eagle Lane, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 8, 1904, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James William Doss and Mary Shelton Doss.
He was married
to Nora Adkins Doss, who died June 29, 1984.
He was a retired tobacco farmer and carpenter.
He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth D. East of Dry Fork, Nell D. Neathery of Danville and Betty D. Austin of Mayfield, N.C.; two sons, James V. Doss Jr. of Mount Hermon and Bobby L. Doss of Mount Hermon; a brother, McKinley Doss of Danville; two sisters, Gracie Mitchell and Garnett Walker, both of Danville; 9 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Meadows. Burial will be in the Doss Family cemetery in Museville.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Walter Lucki
ASHLAND - Walter Joseph Lucki died Oct. 7, 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Doris D. Lucki; his daughters, Carol L. Smith and Susan L. Tucker; son-in-law, F.W. Tucker IV; two brothers, Stanley Lucki and John Lucki of New Jersey; three sisters, Mary L. Pluese and Jeanette L. Dolan of Florida and Helen L. Curtiss of Michigan; three grandchildren, Whitney S. Smith, J. Campbell Tucker and William A. Tucker.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 718 South Center Street, Ashland, on Thursday.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Ashland. Interment
Woodland cemetery.

Isaac 'Ike' Turner
Isaac "Ike" Watson Turner, 77, 613 Worsham St., died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 8, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1920, the Mount Cross Road community of Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Napoleon Turner and Jennie Bell Wilson Turner.
On Oct. 2, 1948, he was married
to Lucy Childrey Turner, who survives.
For the past 31 years, he had made his home on Worsham Street in Danville, where he worked in the restaurant business.
He worked at Ben's Place for many years, and later was the owner and operator of North Main Lunch on North Main Street.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Shirley Ann Lewis of Hudson, N.C., and Betty Jean Elbing of Danville; a sister, Mamie Hamlett of Yanceyville, N.C.; two brothers, Clarence Turner of Danville and Napoleon Turner of Reidsville, N.C.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roy Newton. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Arnold Vaughan
SOUTH BOSTON - Arnold Fletcher Vaughan, 50, 2110 Ridge St., died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Feb. 27, 1947, in Springfield, Mass., he was a son of Lillie Mae Lewis Vaughan.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of South Boston.
He attended Danville Community College.
He was also an employee of J.P. Stevens, and served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Powell Vaughan; three daughters, Angela Eureka Vaughan, Adrienne Sentrell Vaughan and Andrea Jenette Vaughan, all of South Boston; a brother, Maceyo Vaughan of Dorchester, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in South Boston by the Rev. P.H. Wagstaff. Burial will be in Rose Garden cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Jesse Jones
Jesse Oren Jones, 94, 134 Bell Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center, where he had been a patient for one day.
Born July 2, 1903, in West Jefferson, N.C., he was the son of Rutherford Alexandria Jones and Callie Dixon Jones.
He had lived in Danville most of his life, and worked in Dan River Mills for a number of years, and later was a self -employed painter and carpenter.
He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy on Baltimore Avenue.
Survivors include a sister, Donie Chattin of Danville; a stepdaughter, Ruby Thompson of Danville; and two stepsons, Roy Carter and the Rev. Floyd Carter, both of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday morning in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Keith Moore.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 134 Bell Drive, in Druid Hills.

Dorothy Patterson
RICHMOND - Dorothy Mae Shelton Patterson of 13700 N. Gayton Road, Richmond, formerly of South Boston, died Oct. 7, 1997, at the Medical College of Virginia.
She was born in Gretna on Aug. 10, 1920, and was 77 years old.
She was the daughter of George Edward Shelton and Lula Mae Toler Shelton, and was married
to James A. "Pat" Patterson.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Dorothy Mae Shelton Patterson is survived by her husband; one son and daughter-in-law, Edie and James H. Patterson of Bethesda, Md.; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Glenn Van Tuyle of Richmond; two grandsons, William E. Westbrook III "Tripp" of Mt. Kisco, N.Y., and Cabell T. Westbrook of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Virginia Whorley of Richmond, Geraldine Hudson of Hurt and Peggy White of Lynchburg; and one brother, Adrian Shelton of Hurt.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, George E. Shelton, Joel V. Shelton and James Nelson Shelton.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge cemetery with the Rev. George H. Gravitt conducting the service.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home today from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m.

Abraham Logan
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Abraham Mitchell Logan, 1820 Clydes Place, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, in Prince George Hospital in Chevron, Md.
Born Jan. 3, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Matthew Logan and Virgil Logan.
He was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church. He was retired from Maryland Parks and Planning Commission and also operated Carrie's Delicatessen.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Lois W. Logan of Chatham, Va.
The funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday from Shockoe Baptist Church by the Rev. G.H. Pass. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister-in-law, 38 Whittle St., Chatham.

Lynnette Arnold
Lynette P. Arnold, 87, of 2144 Seamster Road, Providence, N.C., died early Saturday morning, Oct. 11, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Arnold was born in Oak City, N.C., on Feb. 26, 1910. She was a daughter of the late William Patterson and Gwendolyn Yeatts Patterson.
Mrs. Arnold was first married
to Emmitt King, who predeceased her, and she later married
John Brooks Arnold, who died on April 8, 1966.
Mrs. Arnold was predeceased by a son, Emmitt King who died in 1955, and also predeceased by three brothers, one sister and one grandson.
Mrs. Arnold made her home in Providence, N.C., since 1934, and was a member of the Park Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church. She worked as a nurse's aide for the Crippled Children's Hospital in Richmond, Va., for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan A. Willis of the residence; one son, William T. "Billy" King of Seamster Road, Providence; two sisters, Billie Barksdale of Richmond and Lille Mae Braswell of Emporia, Va.; nine grandchildren, Chuckie King, Tony King, Sherry King, Debbie Hall, Lisa Moore, Sandra Genevicz, Tim Willis, Susan Testerman and Chris Willis; and 16 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Mark Moore, the Rev. Clifton Minter and the Rev. Bennett D. Shelton. Burial will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will be at the residence, 2144 Seamster Road, Providence.
Mary E. Mays Hyler
Mary Elizabeth Mays Hyler, 73, of 210 Coleman St., died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at her residence. She had been in declining health for eight months.
Born Dec. 9, 1923, in Danville, she was the daughter of Wesley Rubin Mays and Mary Rose Fagan Mays.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She lived her entire life in Danville.
She was married
to Edwin Forrest Hyler Sr., who died Nov. 10, 1993. They were married
on Nov. 2, 1946.
Survivors include six sons, Edwin F. "Eddie" Hyler Jr., John Thomas Hyler and James Walter Hyler, all of Danville, Joseph M. "Mike" Hyler of Los Angeles, Stephen P. "Steve" Hyler of Chatham and Robert A. "Tony" Hyler of Chicago; four daughters, Rosemary H. Ritter of Pasadena, Ca., Theresa Ann H. Cabanas of Cincinnati, Catherine Elizabeth Hyler of Washington, D.C., and Jean Marie H. Neighbors of Blairs; and 17 grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father David McGuire. Burial will be in the Hyler family cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 210 Coleman St.
