Jerome Thomas
Jerome Victor Thomas, 47, of 911 Paxton Ave., Apt. A, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 20, 1950, in Danville, he was the son of Harold E. Thomas Sr. and Ethell L. Pannell.
In addition to his mother, survivors include four daughters, Acquilla Williams of Philadelphia, and Karen Moore, Rhonda Williams and D'Mika Chaney, all of Danville; seven brothers, Harold E. Thomas Jr. and Bryan K. Wilson, both of Danville, Michael E. Thomas and Jonith R. Thomas, both of Richmond, James F. Thomas of Lawrenceville, Dexter R. Thomas of Petersburg and Sidney W. Thomas of Landover, Md.; two sisters, Harriett T. Price and Yvonne T. Wimbush, both of Danville; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday from Cunningham & Hughes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. James Cabell. Burial will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.
Mr. Thomas may be viewed between 4 and 8 p.m. Monday at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home. The family is residing at 662 Lee St.
Dennis Walker
Dennis McDaniel Walker, 49, of 205 Albert Edmonds Road, Ringgold, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at his home.
Born April 4, 1948, in Danville, he was the son of Jimmie Doss Walker and Sarah Dallas Walker.
A member of the Baptist faith, he spent most of his life in Danville. He worked for Thompkins Industries, Lasco Division, in South Boston as a truck driver. He was a graduate of Dan River High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany.
He married
Linda Whitley Walker on Aug. 5, 1966.
In addition to his mother of Danville and his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Denise Walker of Asheboro, N.C.; a son, Brian Dennis Walker of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and a sister, Cheryl Walker Shaw of Reidsville, N.C.
Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
The family is at the residence, 205 Albert Edmonds Road, Ringgold.
David Whitfield
David Henry Whitfield, 45, of 105 Willow Court, Ringgold, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C., where he had been a patient since Oct. 2, 1997.
Born July 3, 1953, in Danville, he was the son of John Lewis Whifield Jr. and Elsie Phillippe Whitfield.
He lived in Danville and the Ringgold community his entire life. He was a building contractor and a member of First Baptist Church.
He married
Pamela Gorden Whitfield on March 21, 1997.
In addition to his mother of Ringgold and his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, David B. Whitfield of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; two daughters, Hannah K. Whitfield and Sarah T. Whitfield, both of Kitty Hawk; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Brown and Leah Brown, both of Ringgold; one stepson, Nathan Brown of Ringgold; a brother, John Lewis Whitfield III of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; and two sisters, Nancy W. Barksdale of Fredericksburg and Jane W. Pratt of Ringgold.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Joseph Northen. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at North Main Chapel. At other times, the family will be at his residence and also the residence of his mother, 1081 Cardwell Lane, Ringgold.
Gladys Riddle
CHATHAM - Gladys Chumley Riddle, 55, 1821 Riddle Road, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born March 21, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Lucy Kirks Chumley and Raymond Wade Chumley, who survives.
She was married
to Benjamin A. Riddle, who survives.
She was of the Christian faith.
Prior to her illness, she was employed by Pat's Place in Chatham.
In addition to her husband of the residence and her father of Hurt, she is survived by two sons, David L. Chumley of Pittsville and Rodney W. Riddle of Chatham; a stepson, Jimmy Riddle of Redlion, Pa.; three sisters, Malinda C. Newby and Patricia C. Newby, both of Chatham, and Carolyn C. Mattox of Gretna; one grandchild and one stepgrandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from Scott Funeral Home by the Rev. Frank Fuller. Interment
will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Scott Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Beatrice Easom
Beatrice Cassidy Easom, 78, 161 American Legion Blvd., died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 1, 1919, in Bedford County, she was a daughter of John Daniel Cassidy and Fannie Saunders Cassidy.
She was married
to John Junior Easom, who died July 7, 1996.
After 45 years of service as a spooler, she retired from Dan River Inc.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Powell of Cascade and Debra Webb of Danville; a son, Barry Easom of Danville; four sisters, Lucille Matherly, Blanch Bates, Stella Smith and Frances Bates, all of Danville; a brother, Jim Cassidy of Danville; and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Ronald Easom and David Easom.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks, the Rev. Eugene Powell and the Rev. Bill Soyars Jr. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Richard 'Dick' Fox III
SOUTH BOSTON - Richard Melville "Dick" Fox III, 75, of 1101 Eastwood Court, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at his residence.
Born June 18, 1922, in Danville, he was the son of Richard Melville Fox Jr., and Hattie Lewis Fox.
He was married
to Marie Smith Fox.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Trisha Fox-Smith of Cheltenham, Md., and Anne Elizabeth Fox of Pleasanton, Calif.; and a son, David Ransom Fox of Richmond.
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Russell Lee.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the residence.
C.T. Fuller
Calvert Thomas Fuller Jr., 74, 170 Franklin Court, died Oct. 14, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for several years and had been in the hospital since Sept. 28, 1997.
Born Aug. 4, 1923, in Callands, he was a son of Calvert Thomas Fuller Sr. and Pearl Herndon Fuller, who survives.
Mr. Fuller had lived most of his life in Danville.
He was a salesman for Plumbing & Mill Supplies Inc. and retired in the mid-70s due to a decline in health.
Mr. Fuller was a member of Melville Avenue Baptist Church, serving for many years as a deacon.
He was a member of American Legion Post 325.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his mother of Callands, survivors include a sister, Annie Laura Fuller Robinson of Richmond; a brother, Matthew Herndon Fuller of Richmond; two grandsons, John T. Barbour and Brian S. Barbour, both of Danville; and a son-in-law, Lyn Barbour of Danville.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a sister, Jean Lorene Fuller; and a daughter, Janice Ann Fuller Barbour.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, in the Fuller Family cemetery, near his mother's home on 20305 Franklin Turnpike, Callands, by the Rev. Ralph E. McCormack of Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Rev. Robert Royal of Liberty Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel.

Winnie Largen
LAUREL FORK - Winnie Mae Largen, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax.
She was married
to Ray Largen, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Willdene Nester of Laurel Fork and Lula Mae Massey of Collinsville; two sons, Teddy Ray Largen of Ridgeway and Michael James Largen of Danville; two brothers, Benton Thomas and Sammy Thomas, both of Laurel Fork; a sister, Rita Webb of Laurel Fork; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Fork Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Joe McGrady and Elder Carbin Vass. Burial will be in Nester cemetery.
The body will lie in state for one hour preceding the service.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 tonight at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville.
Edna Long
SOUTH BOSTON - Edna Williamson Long, 84, 1617 Lovelace St., died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston.
Born Feb. 15, 1913, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Frank Williamson and Carrie Mise Williamson.
She was married
to James Brooks Long, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a member of Dan River Baptist Church.
She was a former Sunday school teacher, a member of the WMS, the AARP and the Joy Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ann L. Pruett of Paces, Virginia "Tiny" L. Collie of Alton, Laura Alice L. Leach of McLean and Nancy L. Perkins of Nathalie; a son, J. Frankie Long of Halifax; a brother, Weldon "Pat" Williamson of Pelham, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Frances Long Hicks.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Dan River Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Williams and Dr. Dennis Knight. Burial will be in First Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery located in Turbeville.
