Joseph Lee
Joseph Henry Lee, 73, 805 Lee Street, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at his residence.
Born July 19, 1924, in Danville, he was the son of James A. Lee and Ether Brown Lee.
He was married
to Iretha M. Lee, who survives.
He worked for Dibrell Tobacco Co., and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Joseretta Galloway and Katherine Marionett, both of Danville; two sons, James A. Lee and Joseph H. Lee, both of Danville; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at L.H. Brooks & Bro. Funeral Home Chapel by Bishop Linder. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The remains may be viewed at the funeral home today until 8 p.m.
The family will be at the residence.
Edith Moore
GRETNA - Edith Dalton Moore, 84, 128 Keesee Road, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Jan. 18, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Jabe Dalton and Carrie Ellis Dalton.
She was married
to Harry P. Moore, who predeceased her.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gretna.
She was also a charter member and had received her fifty year pin with Gretna Chapter No. 118 Order of the Eastern Star.
She was retired from the Lane Co.
Survivors include two daughters, Carole M. Mayhew of Stanardsville and Sandra M. Rinkle of Hurt; two brothers, Jack Dalton and Harold Dalton, both of Gretna; two sisters, Gladys Ballenger and Juanita Elliott, both of Gretna; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Gretna by the Rev. Glenn Graves and the Rev. W.D. Lilly. Interment
will be in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Sandra Rinkle, 5668 Shula Drive, Hurt.

Douglas Motley
Douglas Lee Motley, 70, 418 Kemper Road, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at Forest View Care Center in Forest Grove, Ore.
Born Jan. 21, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Burch Motley and Leeland Land Motley.
On Sept. 20, 1953, he was married
to Lottie Starr Motley, who survives.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and later in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
He was a member of V.F.W. Post 647.
He attended the Dallas Aviation School and V.P.I.
He was a retired safety representative and worked for John W. Daniel Co., and Virginia Dept. of Labor and Industry and M.W. Manufacturing Co.
He was an amateur radio operator under the call letters "W4RKM."
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served as Bishop of the Danville Ward for more than four years.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include a son, John Steven Motley of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Teresa M. Arnold of Henderson, Nev.; a brother, Bill B. Motley; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Jared Motley.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Bishop William Collins. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Louise Reynolds
CALLANDS - Louise Aron Reynolds, 81, 17811 Franklin Turnpike, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at her residence.
Born May 7, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Tom Aron and Aurar Lee Shorter Aron.
She was married
to William Allen Reynolds, who survives.
She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, and had worked at Callands High School in the cafeteria until she retired.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Allen Wayne Reynolds of King William and Stanley Clifton Reynolds of Callands; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert C. Royal. Burial will be in the Aron Family cemetery in Callands.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Scott Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Edgar Stafford Sr.
COLLINSVILLE - Edgar Jerome Stafford Sr., 69, 237 Patsy Ave., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Martinsville Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 8, 1928, in Bassett, he was a son of James P. Stafford and Annie E. Franklin Stafford.
He was married
to Garnett Hancock Stafford, who survives.
He was the owner of Stafford's Music, Econo Wash in Martinsville and Collinsville Launderette.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
A member of Collinsville Fire Department, he helped form Bassett Fire Department.
He was also an active member of Barks R-C Club and Danville R-C Club, and a member of Model Boat Club of Burlington, N.C.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Jo Lovell of Bassett, Penny Nolen of Kernersville, N.C., and Teresa Bray of Reidsville, N.C.; a son, Eddie Stafford of Burlington, N.C.; two brothers, C.M. Stafford and Yancey Stafford, both of Bassett; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral Chapel in Bassett by the Rev. Dale Dyer. Interment
will be in Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Velma Williams
RINGGOLD - Velma Hundley Williams, 70, 462 Mountain Hill Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at her residence following several years of declining health.
A native of Danville, she was born July 17, 1907.
She was married
to Ronald Ray Williams, who survives.
She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville.
After more than 30 years of service, she had retired from C&P Telephone Company as an operator.
She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Lloyd E. Slayton of Manassas; a sister, Viola H. Loftis of Danville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Robert Vermillion.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Bobby Witcher
MIAMI - Bobby Witcher, 40, formerly of Pittsylvania County, Va., died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, in Miami.
Born Oct. 8, 1957, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was a son of Stanford Witcher and Janie Carter Witcher.
Survivors include a son, Charles Witcher of Martinsville, Va.; a daughter, Shameka Witcher of Martinsville, Va.; three brothers, Cary Wayne Witcher and Michael Witcher, both of Richmond, Va., and Stanford Witcher Jr. of Oakridge, Tenn.; and a sister, Louise Logan of Richmond.
He was predeceased by a sister, Emily Witcher.
Memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, Gretna, Va., by the Rev. Vandel Muse.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. David Witcher, 396 Rison St., Chatham.
Gerald 'Crow' Crowell
Gerald "Crow" Crowell, 47, 186 Alpine Drive, died early Friday morning, Oct. 31, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a year of declining health.
Born Aug. 30, 1950, in Panama, he was the son of Howard C. Crowell and Laura Munro Crowell, who survives.
He served one year in the U.S. Navy.
He had spent most of his life in Danville, where he was an artist.
He was of the Episcopal faith.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include a stepson, James Gosney of Danville; three stepdaughters, Tabitha Walker of Ringgold, April Swain and Gail Journigan, both of Danville; two sisters, Barbara Crowell Johns of Danville and Karla Crowell Brummett of Chatham; and a step-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church on Franklin Turnpike by the Rev. Fred Martin. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
