Rachel Deutsch
Rachel Gosney Deutsch, 81, of 915 Green St., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, in her residence.
Born June 26, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Edward Gosney Sr. and Nannie Butcher Gosney.
She was married
to Frank J. Deutsch, who predeceased her on Feb. 11, 1990.
She was a graduate of Averett College and worked in the Research Division of Dan River Inc. until her retirement.
She is survived by one son, R. Wayne Brumfield, and daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Brumfield, both of the residence; and two grandchildren, Dr. Jay Brumfield of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Heather Brumfield of Norcross, Ga.
The Rev. Wayne Wallace will conduct a graveside service 11 a.m. today at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Robbie Elliott
Robert Harrison "Robbie" Elliott II, 24, of 741 Tunstall High Road, Dry Fork, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at his residence.
Born Aug. 31, 1973, in Danville, he was the son of Robert Harrison Elliott and Roberta Vaughn Elliott, who survives.
On Oct. 18, 1997, he was married
to Melissa Ann Bray Elliott.
He spent his entire life in Pittsylvania County. He graduated from Chatham High School in 1991, from Danville Community College in 1993 and from New River Criminal Justice Academy in 1996.
He was a patrol officer with the Danville Police Department where he had previously worked as a dispatcher.
He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, was a member of the Adult Hand Bell Choir and taught Sunday School. He was captain of the Blairs Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a former member of the Chatham Rescue Squad.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Danville, survivors include a stepdaughter, Nikki Bray Carter of the residence and a sister, Amy L. Elliott of High Point, N.C.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Ellison and the Rev. Brian Foreman. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park with honors by the Danville Police Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church and at other times at the residence of his mother, 4056 Suburban Drive, off Rt. 29 north.
Maud Brandon
ALTON - Maud Hall Brandon, 88, 1123 Medley Road, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, at her residence.
Born April 29, 1909, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of William Bailey Hall and Elizabeth May Olds Hall.
She was married
to Earl Clinton Brandon, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth B. Tate of Alton; and a sister, Edna Hall Carter of Halifax.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., today at Calvary United Methodist Church by the Rev. Darrell Campbell. Burial will be in Calvary United Methodist Church cemetery in the Calvary community.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Ruth Carden
Ruth Lovell Carden, 62, 386 Chatelaine Ave., died Sunday night, Nov. 2, 1997, in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville after a decline in health for the past three years. She had been a patient at the hospital for two weeks.
She was born March 18, 1935, in Henry County, and was raised by her grandmother, Mrs. Lovell.
She was married
to Charles Carden Sr., who died March 16, 1997.
A resident of Danville for 45 years, she was the manager of High's Ice Cream Shop in Ballou Park Shopping Center for a number of years.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Hazel Carden Lovett of Siloam, Ark.; two sons, Charles Carden Jr. and Steven Carden, both of Danville; five grandchildren and three step-granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren and a step-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday at the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles Cumbow.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
William H. Glover
William H. Glover, of Hobe Sound, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997.
Born in Lima, Ohio, January 9, 1923, he owned a laundry and linen supply corp. After retirement, he served on assignments with the International Executive Service Corp., in the Middle East and Africa.
He moved to Martin County from Lima in 1980.
He attended Eaglebrook School, Western Reserve Academy and Babson College.
He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Among the decorations he was awarded were the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star.
He was an Episcopalian.
He was a former member of the Jensen Beach Samaritan Ambulance Squad, and a charter member and a past president of the Hutchinson Island Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge, with life memberships in the Scottish Rite of Dayton, Ohio, Elks Lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Reserve Officers Association, 32nd Inf. Div. Association, Military Police Association, Association of Former Intelligence Officers and Babson College Alumni Association
He is survived by his wife, Anne Rucker Glover; son, George T. Glover of Cincinnati; daughter, Dr. Lucy G. Moore of Chatham; three grandchildren, Mark and Meredith Glover of Cincinnati and Megan Moore of Chatham; stepson, John R. Hall of Westminster, Calif.; and a stepdaughter, Catherine Hall Petit of Ocala, Fla. Also surviving are three sisters, Katharine G. Mulligan of Salt Lake City, Utah, Margaret G. Paddock of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and Gretchen G. Motter of Honolulu.
Burial will be at Trinity Episcopal Church, Lynchburg, on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, with full military honors.
Margie Pruitt
Margie Ann Hammock Pruitt, 52, 41 Carlson Ave., died Sunday morning, Nov. 2, 1997, at Elder Care of Franklin County, where she had been a patient for two days. She had been in declining health for the past four years.
Born Aug. 27, 1945, in Greensboro, N.C., she was a daughter of Spencer Hammock and Esther Hatcher Hammock.
She was married
to Jennings Wayne Pruitt, who died Oct. 22, 1994.
A resident of Danville for most of her life, she was a homemaker.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Dwayne Pruitt of Danville; four brothers, James S. Hammock of North Carolina, Sherman Hammock of Callands, and Eddie Hammock and Delano Hammock, both of Rocky Mount; five sisters, Shirley Loftis and Lessie Sparks, both of Danville, Dorothy Pritchett of Dry Fork, Virginia Bauman of Florida and Rosa Lee Yupps of Rocky Mount; and a granddaughter.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday at Happy Home Christian Church cemetery by the Rev. Jack Robertson. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Dovie Wagoner
MARTINSVILLE - Dovie Weddle Wagoner, 89, of Blue Ridge Drive, and formerly of Chatham Heights, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1908, in Floyd County, she was a daughter of L. Peyton Weddle and Louvinia Martin Weddle.
She was married
to Beaufort Talmadge Wagoner, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
She was also a member of the Rebecca Martinsville Lodge No. 10.
Survivors include a daughter, Elsie Woodson Nowlin of Danville; three sons, C. Eugene Wagoner and Ernest Wagoner, both of Martinsville, and J. Elbert Wagoner of Hitchcock, Texas; a sister, Martha Leany of Troy, N.Y.; a brother, Claude Weddle of Phoenix; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, E. Earl Wagoner.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., today at Chatham Heights Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Bailey. Interment
will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

Brian Alderman
Brian Dwayne Alderman, 33, 252 Parker Road, Apartment No. 41, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at his residence.
Born Feb. 20, 1964, in Danville, he was a son of Raymond Earl Alderman and Mavia Andrews Alderman, who survives.
A life-long resident of Danville, he was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include a sister, Janet A. Pittman of Durham, N.C.; and a brother, Stephen Wayne Alderman of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his mother, 719 Landsbury Drive, Danville.
Nellie Andrews
GRETNA - Nellie Wilmoth Andrews, 81, died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 20, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charles Layfette Andrews and Carrie Wilmoth Lovelace Andrews.
She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Virginia Davis of Gretna and Vivian Andrews of Forest.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles Mark Andrews, Lee Andrews and Nathaniel Andrews; and three sisters, Lou Taylor, Frances Taylor and Mary Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jess Staton and the Rev. Larry Owen. Burial will be in the Andrews Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of her niece, Nannie Andrews, 1089 Markham Road, Gretna.
