Harry S. Ferguson
Harry S. Ferguson, 80, 321 Eagle Lane, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 27, 1917, he was a son of Henry S. Ferguson and Gracie Lewis Ferguson.
He was married
to Katherine D. Ferguson, who survives.
He was predeceased by a sister, Erna Giles.
Survivors include a son, Harry Ray Ferguson of Danville; two daughters, Peggy F. Barker of Ringgold and Jeanette F. Fitch of Danville; two brothers, Dewey L. Ferguson of Danville and Adrian L. Ferguson of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Lorraine F. Davis and Bertha F. Buckner, both of Danville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeats Funeral Home's North Main Chapel. The Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. and the Rev. Don Davidson will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel.

Georgia Gourley Moseley
Georgia Gourley Moseley, 92, of Danville, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Blue Ridge Nursing Home.
Born June 5, 1905, she was the daughter of John W. Gourley and Daisy Coleman Gourley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Moseley.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park. The Rev. Lee Ellison will officiate.

Nancy Heslep Shelhorse
Nancy Heslep Shelhorse, 69, 128 Oakwood Place, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 13, 1928, she was the daughter of James Emmet Heslep and Marie Cheatwood Heslep.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Shelhorse Johns of Sanford, N.C., and Patricia Shelhorse Haley of Winnetka, Ill.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Riverview cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Townes Funeral Home.
Carolyn Smith Wilson
Carolyn Smith Wilson, 39, 215 Searcy St., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born Feb. 1, 1958, in Suffolk, she was the daughter of Arthur Smith and Thelma Collins Smith, who survive.
She was married
to Michael Wison, who survives.
Survivors include four brothers, Larry and Ronald Smith of Suffolk, Eric Smith of Alanta, and LaFayette Collins of New York.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at New Hope Apostolic Church, with Bishop Major Hairston officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery.

Everett Witcher
Everett Witcher, 65, 1599 Double Bridge Road in Chatham, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, near his residence.
Born Feb. 8, 1932, he was a son of the late Benjamin Witcher and Myrtle Pannell Witcher.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Witcher; and three sisters, Gladys Witcher, Louise Myers and Mamie Sue Davies.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Witcher of Chatham; five sons, Lonnie B. Witcher and Ronnie Lee Witcher, both of Rochester, N.Y., Michael Brown of Pittsville, James A. Brown of Chatham, James Everett Witcher of Bedford; daughter, Hazel J. William of Roanoke; three brothers, Russell Witcher and Cecil Witcher, both of Pittsville, and Edd Lloyd Witcher of Gretna, Va.; three sisters, Jacqueline Younger of Chatham, Loretta Wimbush and Pauline Turner, both of Danville; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. John Terry Hubbard will officiate. Burial will be in Burning Bush Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and, at other times, at the residence.

Josephine Bigger Barber
Josephine Bigger Barber, 92, formerly of the Glenwood community, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she resided, after several years of declining health.
Born Oct. 8, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Richard Bigger and Ida Walker Bigger.
She lived her life in the Glenwood community, where she was a member of the Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church.
She worked at Dan River Inc. prior to her retirement.
She was married
to Howard Clay Barber, who predeceased her.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Lee Ellison.

Helen Jaggers
WILMINGTON, Del. - Helen Moulder Jaggers, 73, 58 Kathy Drive, Murray Manor 2, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997 at Christiana Hospital in Newark after three years of declining health.
Born July 9, 1924, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Paul Moulder and Pearl Dixon Moulder.
She was a former member of Schoolfield Baptist Church in Danville. She was a retired hair stylist and lived most of her life in Danville and Wilmington.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret L. Bonarigo of Wilmington.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. John H. LaRue. Burial will follow at Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home.
Harold Scearce
Harold James Scearce, 73, of 120 Cheryl Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 26, 1923, in Danville, he was the son of Grady Scearce and Carrie Walker Scearce.
Most of his life was spent in Danville. He retired from Dan River Inc. after 45 years of service.
He was a member of the Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he sang in the choir.
He is survived by five sisters, Aleese Barts, Barbara Crumpton, Charlene Wann, Margie Warren and Mildred Hague, all of Danville; and a brother, Lawrence Scearce of Danville.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Grady Scearce and John Scearce.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Ray Humphries and the Rev. Myron Bruce. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of his sister, Aleese Barts, 120 Cheryl Drive.
Charlie Walden
BLAIRS - Charlie Bailey Walden Sr., 73, of 936 Whitt Road, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 26, 1924, he was the son of Charlie R. Walden and Emma Ferrell Walden.
He was married
to Inez Bowman Walden, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by four daughters, Brenda Petty, Penny Walden and Joyce Wilson, all of Danville, and Lisa Blackstock, of Blairs; a son, Charlie Walden Jr. of Danville; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 936 Whitt Road.
Stella Wright
GRETNA - Stella Marie Wright, 76, of 402 Henry Street, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of George Washington Manley Sr. and Lillie Jason Owens Manley. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Richmond.
She was married
to Melvin S. Wright, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a daughter, Christine Marie Davenport of Mechanicsville; a brother, Robert W. Manley of Bedford; three sisters, Gracie Franklin of Danville, Lois Lee Bray of Danville and Jesse Mae Shiflett of Gainesville, Ga.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Rowland Family cemetery by the Rev. R.G. Rowland.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 402 Henry Street, Gretna.

Martha Chandler
Martha Jerrell Chandler, 91, 6 Elizabeth St. in the Edgewood Community, died Sunday night, Nov. 9, 1997, at Riverside Health Care Center after a decline in health for a number of years.
Born Jan. 3, 1906, in Alamance County, N.C., she was a daughter of A.A. Jerrell and Maggie Black Jerrell.
She was married
to Clarence Y. Chandler, who died in November of 1969.
For the past 80 years, she had been a resident of the Danville area.
She worked as a nurse aid at Danville Memorial Hospital for a number of years, and later worked as a nurse aid at Roman Eagle Memorial Home for 10 years.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in the Edgewood Community.
Survivors include a daughter, Edith Chandler Thornton of the residence; a son, Clarence Ray Chandler of Danville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Lessie Morris, who died in 1986.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Mt. View cemetery by the Rev. Richard Markham.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
