Robina Watson
Robina Forsyth Watson, 89, 120 Old Piney Forest Road, died early Wednesday morning, July 30, 1997, at Martinsville Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Born Feb. 15, 1908, in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of Robert Forsyth and Elizabeth Steven Forsyth.
She was married
to Grant M. Watson, who died July 29, 1992.
She spent most of her life in Long Island, N.Y., and Virginia.
She had lived in Danville since 1990.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen M. Harrison of Southampton, Bermuda, Jeannette W. Wood of Ridgeway and Barbara Watson of Danville; four sons, James F. Watson of Culpepper, Walter S. Watson of Atlantic Beach, N.C., and Edward R. Watson of Levittown, Long Island, N.Y., and John M. Watson of The Dalles, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Jack Robertson.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home.
Joseph 'Billy' Younger
GRETNA - Joseph "Billy" Younger, 62, 101 Chaney Lane, died Tuesday morning, July 29, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 8, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Harry Younger and Mary Hutchings Younger.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Byron Younger of Philadelphia; a daughter, Debra Witcher of Roanoke; a sister, Marie Mease of Gretna; and two brothers, Edwin Younger of New Jersey and Gene Younger of Philadelphia.
A graveside funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. George C. Gilbert Sr.
The body may be view from noon to 8 tonight at Miller Funeral Home in Gretna.
The family will receive friends at the home of his aunt, Elsie Gilbert, 101 Chaney Ln., Gretna.
Alberta Gauldin
Alberta Louise McDaniel Gauldin, 100, formerly of Route 1, Cascade, died Thursday, July 31, 1997, at Blue Ridge Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for many years.
Born April 10, 1897, in Henry County, she was a daughter of Gilmore McDaniel and Anna Higgs McDaniel.
She was married
to James Walter Gauldin, who died in 1958.
She spent most of her life in the Brosville community, and was a member of Sugar Tree Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Katie Marie Anthony of Kannapolis, N.C.; two sons, Johnny James Gauldin of Danville and Clay Harden Gauldin of Danville; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gilmore Hundley and the Rev. Robert Carty. Burial will be held in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her son, Clay Gauldin, 6033 Mt. Cross Road.
Cheryl Newton
Cheryl Ellen Campbell Newton, 42, of 1075 Halifax Road, died Wednesday, July 30, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following two years of declining health.
Born July 28, 1955, in Danville, she was a daughter of James L. Campbell Sr. and Keturah Gilbert Campbell, who survives.
She was married
to Kenneth Wayne Newton, who survives.
She spent her entire life in Danville, and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence and her mother of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Misty Michelle Newton and Mary Catherine Newton, both of the residence; a stepson, Chris Wayne Newton of Danville; two sisters, Donna C. Allen of Richmond and Gayle C. Gravely of Ringgold; a brother, James L. Campbell Jr. of Pelham, N.C.; and a grandson.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Rodney Barker and the Rev. Gilmore Hundley.
The family will receive friends 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and other times at 444 Chaney Store Road, Ringgold.
Thelma Richardson
RINGGOLD - Thelma Brown Richardson, 82, 316 Wiles Road, died Thursday afternoon, July 31, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following 45 days of declining health and a nine day stay in the hospital.
Born June 30, 1915, in Sutherlin, she was a daughter of James S. Brown and Nannie L. Lewis.
On Dec. 27, 1937, she was married
to Samuel Kent Richardson, who died in September 1989.
She was a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher.
She spent her entire life in Sutherlin and the Rock Spring community of Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sisters, Eva B. Ferguson of Sutherlin and Gray B. Ferguson of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Howard Green.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her sister, Eva Ferguson, 185 Oliver's Lane, Sutherlin.

Larry Wilson
Larry James Wilson, 52, 333 Audubon Drive, Apartment No. 12, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at his residence.
Born Mar. 21, 1945, in Danville, he was a son of Victor J. Wilson and Elizabeth Bass Wilson, who survives.
He was retired from Dan River Inc., and a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include a daughter, Dara Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, Vincent Wilson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and six sisters, Audrey Coles and Brenda W. Evans, both of Danville and Mary A. Wilson, Jenny B. Banks, Gerrine Moran and Sadie Hicks, all of Hampton.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at L.H. Brooks & Bro. Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Hayes McCornell. Burial will be held in Oak Hill cemetery.
The remains may be viewed Friday afternoon until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at 134 Moorefield Lane.
Yancey Wylie Jr.
Yancey C. Wylie Jr., 78, 601 S. Main St., died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 15, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Yancey C. Wylie Sr. and Armeda Wylie.
He was married
to Lelia Wylie, who survives.
He had worked at P. Lorrilard Tobacco Co., and was a member of Loyal Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Stratford Wylie of Newark, N.J., Rayfield Smith of Greensboro, N.C., and Emmanuel Robinson of Manchester, Conn.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Lovelle A. Maxwell Jr. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The body may be viewed 4-8 today at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.

Delacy Rice
Delacy May Rice, 73, formerly of 148 Lansdale St., died Wednesday, July 30, 1997, at Stratford Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for five years.
Born Jan. 17, 1924, in Danville, she was a daughter of Jim Rice and Berta King Rice.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was a retired aide from the former Danville Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Anthony Rice of Danville; a daughter, Annette Rice of High Point, N.C.; a sister, Emma Brincefield of Danville; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at L.H. Brooks & Bro. Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J.P. Griffith. Interment
will be held in Highland Burial Park.
