William Elliot Hickson
William Elliot Hickson, 91, 5 Country Club Drive, died Friday morning, Aug. 15, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hickson was born May 16, 1906, in Marshallville, Ga., the son of Nathaniel and Josephine Mount Hickson.
He was a graduate of Emory University and the International School of Accountants. Mr. Hickson did his graduate work at The University of Chicago and Auburn University.
After graduating from college, he taught mathematics at Columbus High School in Columbus, Ga. He also taught extension courses for Auburn University in Auburn, Ala.
Prior to joining Dan River Inc. in 1941, Mr. Hickson had been assistant to the treasurer of Archer Hosiery Mill in Columbus, Ga.
In 1955, he became corporate director of real estate and insurance for Dan River Inc., which position he held until his retirement in 1972.
He became a member of Danville Rotary Club in 1946, where he served on the executive board and as club treasurer for 26 years.
In 1979, he was the recipient of the club's Paul Harris Fellowship Award. In 1991, he received a pin from the club denoting his lifetime honorary membership in the Danville Rotary Club.
Mr. Hickson was a past president of Danville T.B. Association and director of Basil D. Browder Health Foundation.
He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He taught Sunday school and served on the administrative board for many years.
On July 2, 1930, he was married
to his beloved wife, Julia Adams Hickson.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Adams Hickson of Danville; a son, Dr. William E. Hickson Jr. of Danville; and three nieces, Mrs. Patrick Meakin of Greenville, S.C., and Mrs. Charles Wilson of Midlothian and Mrs. Osborne Belt of Chevy Chase, Md.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jay Ashby and the Rev. Anthony Pollard. Burial will be held in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Townes Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Marie Main
Marie Hardy Main, 56, 860 Mill Creek Road, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following a two-day stay in the hospital.
Born Nov. 4, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William Eddie Hardy and Lessie Mae McKinney Hardy.
On April 8, 1966, she was married
to Fred A. Main, who survives.
She was of the Baptist faith, and lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County.
She worked at Value City as a sales associate.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Kenneth L. Main of Dry Fork; a sister, Shirley H. Evans of Safford, Ariz; a grandson, Joshua Wilborne of Dry Fork; and a granddaughter, Jessica Wilborne of Dry Fork.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, by the Rev. Robert Vermillion and the Rev. Gil Hawkes. Interment
will be held in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her son, Kenneth L. Main, 685 Tunstall High Road, Dry Fork.
William Myers Jr.
CHATHAM - William Grant Myers Jr., 52, 325 Greenpond Road, died Thursday morning, Aug. 14, 1997, at his residence.
Born April 27, 1945, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of William Grant Myers Sr. and Dorothy Myers, who survives.
Prior to his retirement on disability, he was a farmer.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother of Chatham, survivors include a son, William Mandell Myers of Roanoke; a brother, Andrew Myers of Chatham; four sisters, Hilda Niblett of Chatham, Mary Nibblett of Martinsville, Ruby Green of Callands and Janice Adkins of Danville; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Elmer King of Chatham.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Deering. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Miller Funeral Home, Gretna, is in charge of arrangements.
The Rev. Thomas Ninnis
The Rev. Thomas George J. Ninnis, 67, 907 Colquhoun St., died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born Jan. 17, 1930, in Serifos Cyclades, Greece, he was a son of John Ninis and Maria Ninis.
He was the priest of Saint Peters Greek Orthodox for 17 years, and had served in the U.S. Army.
From 1961 to 1968, he served as a Greek Orthodox Priest in Wheeling, W. Va., and in Atlantic City, N.J. from 1968 to 1980.
Survivors include a brother, Savos Ninis of Greece; and a sister, Margarita Chryssolora of Greece.
A Divine Liturgy will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Peters Greek Orthodox Church by the Rev. Nicholas Spirakis, the Rev. Nicholas G. Bacalis, the Rev. George Chioros and the Rev. John Panagiotou.
Burial will be held in Mountain View cemetery.
The Church Congregation will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday with a 7:30 p.m. Trisagion Service at the church.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Norman Ragle
Norman Arthur Ragle, 74, 310 Wimbish Drive, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following five years of declining health.
Born Sept. 19, 1922, in Danville, he was the son of George Ragle and Roxie Prescott Ragle Brown.
He was married
to Lucille Staley Ragle, who died Sept. 30, 1986.
A lifelong resident of Danville, he was retired from Commonwealth of Virginia ABC Board.
He was an active member of North Main Baptist Church and the Jack Walston Sunday school class.
He was a member of Morotock Masonic Lodge No. 210 A.F. & A.M., and was a past master of the lodge.
He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 325.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah R. Edwards of Kernersville, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Ann M. Eller of Moravian Falls, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Davis and the Rev. A. Kyle Flora. Burial will be held in Mountain View cemetery with Masonic Rites by Morotock Lodge No. 210.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Bettye Hawker, 121 Brantley Place.
Virginia Boswell
Virginia Frances Boswell, 75, of 210 Arlington Place, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, in Franklin County Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for a year.
Born Oct. 4, 1921, in the Hinesville community of Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Claude Swanson Hines Sr. and Eva Hutcherson Hines.
She was married
to Harold Kesler Boswell, who died April 28, 1978.
Mrs. Boswell lived most of her life in the Axton community prior to moving to Danville. She was retired from the Henry County Public School System with over 30 years of service where she had worked as a school bus driver and in the cafeteria.
She was a lifetime member of Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara B. Dameron of Martinsville and Debra B. Jones of Danville; two sons, Ronald W. Boswell of Lincolnton, N.C., and C. Donald Boswell of Danville; two sisters, Kathleen H. Barker and Amanda H. Ferguson, both of Danville; two grandsons, Donnie Boswell and Ronnie Boswell, both of Danville; two granddaughters, Donna B. Moore and Angie B. Wolff, both of Danville; two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
She was predeceased by a brother, Claude Swanson Hines Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 8 p.m. from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Calvin Hines and the Rev. Jack Robertson.
A graveside service will follow Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 7-8 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence of her son, Donald Boswell, 2133 Stoney Mill off of Route 58 West.

Margaret Hite
Margaret Scarce Hite, 82, of Clarksville, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born in Danville, she was a daughter of John Wesley and Bessie Smiley Scarce.
She was married
to Earlie Raymond Hite, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Clarksville Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Hite Hollar of Charlottesville; two sons, Earlie Raymond Hite Jr. of Clarksville and Edward Tynes Hite of Buffalo Junction; a brother, John Wesley Scarce Jr. of Danville; two sisters, Eva S. Thompson and Clide M. Scarce, both of Danville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Chapel by the Rev. H.V. Conner and the Rev. Rodney Barwick. Burial will follow in Oakhurst cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, Clarksville.
Lisa Joseph
CHATHAM - Lisa White Joseph, 34, 244 Carrington Ave., Fort Washington, Md., and formerly of Chatham, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church.
Born July 15, 1963 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William B. White and Mary Harris White, who survive.
She was educated in Pittsylvania County and received a bachelor of science degree from Norfolk State University. She was employed as a computer analyst at Nova Care in Fairfax.
She was a member of the Victory Christian Ministries Center.
In addition to her parents, survivors include four sisters, Willie Mae Womack Woods of Chatham, Rosa Harris of Alexandria, Evelena Farmer of Salisbury, N.C., and Donna Smith of Richmond; five brothers, Jack Harris of Dallas, William White Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Md., Earnest White of Alexandria, Curtis White of New York City and Andre White of Chatham.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Margie Kline and Dr. H.G. McGhee Sr. Burial will be in the Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her parents, 418 Rison St., Chatham.
