James Cox
James Richard Cox, 68, 325 Bellevue St., died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following eight years of declining health and one day in the hospital.
Born May 10, 1929, in Danville, he was a son of Robert C. Cox Sr. and Mary Neal Cox.
A life-long resident of Danville, he had worked for Roman Eagle Memorial Home in the maintenance department for 10 years until his retirement due to health reasons.
He was of the Baptist faith.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include a son, Billy O. Cox of Danville; two daughters, Kim C. Sadler of Danville and Aneka C. Wise of Newark, Del.; four brothers, Frank L. Cox, Vernell M. Cox, Robert D. Cox Jr. and Neal E. Cox, all of Danville; five sisters, Ruth C. Hylton, Mildred C. Powell, Joan C. Campbell and Jackie C. Hedrick, all of Danville, and Shelby C. Collie of Colonial Heights; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, by the Rev. David Ball and the Rev. Billy Hedrick. Burial will be held in Danville Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his sister, Jackie C. Hedrick, 112 Englewood Lane.
Mary Harris
Mary Elizabeth Harris, 77, 1427 Myrtle Ave, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following 10 months of declining health and one day in the hospital.
Born March 26, 1920, in Danville, she was a daughter of Francis L. McClanahan and Sissie Hammock McClanahan.
On July 4, 1940, she was married
to Clyde Holland Harris, who survives.
She spent her entire life on Myrtle Avenue in Danville.
Until her retirement after 50 years of service, she owned and operated Harris Beauty Salon on Myrtle Avenue.
She was a life-long member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, the Rev. Dr. Mark A. Harris of Reidsville, N.C.; and four sisters, Linner M. Crawford, Irene M. Jones and Sarah M. Hutcherson, all of Danville, and Nancy M. Evans of Chatham.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday from Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church by the Rev. Fredrick J. Vicks. Interment
will be held in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Annie McCain
RINGGOLD - Annie K. McCain, 83, 5224 Rockspring Road, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 5, 1914, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Alfred and Lucy Barksdale.
She was married
to Melvin McCain, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ringgold.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Robert McCain of Ringgold; and four sisters-in-law, Mayola McCain and Olean McCain, both of Ringgold, and Annetta Davis and Dorothy McCain, both of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Howard Graves. Burial will be held in Danville Memorial Gardens.
A viewing will be from 4-8 tonight at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will be at the residence.
Floyd 'Junior' McCann Jr.
COURTLAND - Floyd Lee "Junior" McCann Jr., 67, 23500 block Jerusalem Road, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
A native of Tazwell County, he was a son of Floyd Lee McCann and Beatrice Hamilton McCann.
He was married
to Annie Pittman McCann, who survives.
He was retired as terminal manager for Chemical Leaman Tank Line Inc.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Debra Harrell of Capron; a son, James Carroll McCann of Courtland; three sisters, Dorothy Williamson, Thelma Hyler and Joyce Kimberly; two brothers, Garland McCann and J.D. McCann; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Bessie Barker and a brother, Donnie McCann.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin.
Sanford Stowe Jr.
The funeral for Sanford Robert Stowe Jr., 66, 167 Riverview Drive, Lot 23, will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John H. Meadows.
Burial will be held at Schoolfield cemetery, where military honors will be performed by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
He died Thursday morning, Aug. 21, 1997, at his residence.
Born Dec. 26, 1930, in Danville, he was the son of Sanford Robert Stowe Sr. and Virgie Lancaster Stowe Horn, who survives.
He was married
to Anneliese Lieb Stowe, who survives.
From 1948 to 1975, he served in the U.S. Army.
After retirement from the army, he worked as an insurance agent.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville and his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Delores Ann Thornton and Debra Dianne McJucken, both of Ohio; two sons, Larry Stowe of Danville and David Stowe of Ringgold; a sister, Gloria S. Blake of New Jersey; two stepsisters, Maggie Goodman and Pauline Beam; three stepbrothers, Monroe Horn, Floyd Horn and Frank Horn; his stepfather, David V. Horn; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Nellie Stovall
Nellie Blalock Stovall, 80, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
The daughter of William DuPree Blalock and Mary Lou Saunders Blalock, she was born Aug. 16, 1917, in Danville.
She was married
to John Watson Stovall, who died Jan. 20, 1988.
She was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was active in Women's Work and a member of the Church Women of Danville.
She is survived by two sons, Douglas Q. Stovall of Chatham and B. Brack Stovall of Richmond; three daughters, Lynda S. Lewis and Beverley S. Ragsdale, both of Danville, and Jayne S. Hughes of Killeen, Texas; a brother, Wayles H. Blalock of Burkeville; four sisters, Martha B. Carter of Stillwater, Okla., Jacqueline B. Loftis of Providence, N.C., and Peggy B. Gauldin and Geneva B. Stanfield, both of Danville; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Paul Johnson and the Rev. Adolf Otersen. The burial will be held at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Thelma Harris
Thelma Pell Harris, 78, 1425 Walnut Creek Road, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1919 in Randolph County, N.C., she was a daughter of Alvin C. Pell and Ada Barnes Pell.
She was married
to Samuel Harris, who predeceased her.
She retired from Dan River Inc. at the age of 63.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include a brother, R.J. Pell of Danville and a sister, Peggie Bryant of Mebane, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. today from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Dr. William Blalock, a relative of Mrs. Harris.

Rorer Still
Rorer James Still, 75, of Cascade, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
Born Dec. 14, 1921 in Danville, he was the son of David Allen Still and Helen Bendall Still.
He was a graduate of Brosville High School and Ferrum Junior College.
He owned and operated the Cascade Milling Company for 25 years. He later worked for Fieldcrest Mills for 25 years until retiring in 1996.
He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps 1942-5.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Helen Still Youngs of McLean, Frances Still Robson of Coral Gables, Fla., and Elizabeth Still Cancemi of Greensboro, N.C.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Fletcher Hardy III. Burial will be in Greenhill cemetery. Military honors will be given at the graveside by the Honor Guard of American Legion Post No. 325.
