Florence Napier
Florence "Flossie" Ellen Napier, 80, of Riverside Health Care Center, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at the residence.
She was born Aug. 28, 1916 in Winesap, Tenn.
She was married
to Jack H. Napier, who died in 1981.
Survivors include a daughter, Eugenia Napier Boger of Providence, N.C.; two sisters, Lilly Marlow and Violet Bohannon of Crossville, Tenn.; three brothers, Everette Edmunds and Avon Edmunds, both of Crossville, Tenn., and the Rev. Ernest Edmunds of Beckley, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Samuel Greeson at Mt. View cemetery.

Minnie Robertson
Minnie Young Robertson, 92, formerly of 201 Ash St., died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center.
Born April 11, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Henry Young and Lima Royal Young.
She was married
to Andrew W. Robertson, who died in February 1979.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area, and was a life-long member of Vandola Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, David H. Robertson of the residence; four daughters, Winifred R. Minter of Martinsville, Empress R. Hazelwood of Danville, Corinna R. Johnson of Ruffin, N.C., and Hasseltine R. Aiken of Danville; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons; Haywood G. Robertson and Melvin S. Robertson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Leroy Clack. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Sally Adams
LYNCHBURG - Sally Lee Dodd Adams died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at Camelot Nursing Home in Lynchburg.
Born in the Hollywood section of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Hubbard P. Dodd and Martha Allen Dodd.
For 57 years, she was married
to Raymond M. Adams Sr., who predeceased her.
Until 1942, she was a resident of Danville. She resided in Lynchburg until her death.
She was a member of Lee Street Baptist Church in Danville and West Lynchburg Baptist Church in Lynchburg.
Survivors include a son, Raymond M. Adams Jr. of Annapolis, Md.; a daughter, Judith A. Daniel of Herndon; a sister, Eva Dodd Huffman of Lynchburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Diuguids Waterlick Chapel on Timberlake Road in Lynchburg.
Alice Bass
Alice Rebecca Bass, 82, 157 Hamilton St., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at her residence.
Born April 15, 1915, she was the daughter of Andrew Lovelace and Lou Dora Lovelace.
She was married
to Ernest Bass, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Cross Road Baptist Church for more than 50 years.
For many years, she served on senior usher board, kitchen committee, missionary society and was mother of the church until her health failed.
Survivors include two daughters, Madeline Mitchell of Danville and Lola M. Bass of Philadelphia; a son, Ernest Bass Jr. of Trenton, N.J.; two brothers, Joseph Lovelace of Aurora, Colo., and John Lovelace of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Jones Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Hayes McConnell. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Louise Bullock
CHATHAM - Louise Roebuck Bullock, 87, 3720 Chalk Level Road, died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 16, 1997, at her residence.
Born Feb. 17, 1910, in Martin County, N.C., she was a daughter of James Albert Roebuck and Amanda Magnolia Leggett Roebuck.
She was married
to James Garland Bullock, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, and had taught school for 30 years in the Greensboro, N.C., Public School System.
She was a junior Sunday school teacher for 25 years at First Baptist Church in Greensboro, N.C.
Survivors include a daughter, Amanda B. Gibson of Downingtown, Pa.; two sons, W. Carl Bullock of Richboro, Pa., and James G. Bullock Jr. of Chatham; a brother, Jim Bullock of Robersonville, N.C.; a sister, Maggie R. Whitley of Vanceboro, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Carson Dalton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The Rev. James Chaney
GRETNA - The Rev. James Dallas Chaney, 59, formerly of Northside Drive, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 28, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Florence Woods Chaney and Reuben William Chaney, who survives.
He was married
to Geneva Reeves Chaney, who predeceased him.
He was last employed by Gibson Sawmill, and was a member of Elba Baptist Church.
In addition to his father of Martinsville, survivors include two daughters, Genell Bland of Danville and Mamie Sue Chaney of North Carolina; three sisters, Stella Wade, Carolyn Richardson and Nellie Witcher, all of Martinsville; and a brother, Harold Chaney of Martinsville.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Old Sandy Level Methodist Church cemetery in Sandy Level by the Rev. B.I. Baize.

Stella Crowder
A graveside service for Stella Adkins Pruitt Crowder, 86, formerly of Hayes Court, will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. William J. Soyars.
She died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following a decline in health for two years.
She had been a resident of Roman Eagle Memorial Home for two years.
Born Mar. 27, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Johnnie Adkins and Nannie Hall Adkins.
She was married
to Newton Jasper Pruitt, who died in June 1952. She was later married
to George Carter Crowder Sr., who died in May 1995.
She had lived her entire life in Pittsylvania County and Danville.
She was retired from Dan River Mills, where she had worked as a winder in the Riverside Division.
She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Carroll L. Pruitt of Peoria, Ill.; a daughter, Marjorie Pruitt Turpin of Danville; a sister, Melissa A. Starr of Danville; a brother, Claude Adkins of Danville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by a daughter, Nannie Ellen Pruitt; a sister, Myrtle A. Allen; and two brothers, Burton Adkins and Norman Adkins.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Marjorie P. Turpin, 4004 Bridgewood Drive.
James Gray
James C. Gray, formerly of Danville, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, in New York.
Born Oct. 25, 1941, in Danville, he was a son of Henry Gray and Nannie B. Ferguson.
Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Toney of New Jersey and Anne Marie Towler of Danville; and two brothers, Henry Gray Jr. of South Boston and Douglass L. Ferguson.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
Loraine Haley
Loraine Mae Haley, 70, 204 Samuel Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at her residence.
Born April 7, 1927, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of Pate Haley and Nannie Kate Donnely Haley.
She was a member of Cool Springs Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Larry B. Haley of Danville; a daughter, Joyce H. Turner of Penhook; three sisters, Mary Sue Oakes and Maggie Hall, both of Dry Fork, and Emory Weatherford of Ringgold; and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Chatham, by the Rev. Don Davidson. Burial will be in Boone's Chapel cemetery in Sago.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
