Myrtle Anderson
Myrtle Smith Anderson, 75, 221 Willow St., Roman Eagle Nursing Home, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 2, 1922, in Danville, she was the daughter of Merland Smith and Susie Hughes Smith.
She was married
to Percy Anderson, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Scared Heart Catholic Church and Daughters of Elks.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores S. Pate of Mount Home, Idaho; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father McGuire. Burial will be in Leemont cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at L.H. Brooks & Bro. Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Darrell G. Brittin
GRETNA - Darrell Gene Brittin, 65, 601 Leftwich St., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at his residence.
Born Nov. 19, 1931, in LeRoy, Ill., he was a son of Everette Brittin and Ruth Brittin Woizeski.
He was married
to Beulah Jefferson Brittin, who survives.
He graduated from Bluefield College of Evangelism with a degree in ministry. He was an employee with Dominion Graphics.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of West End Church of Christ. He was also a member of the board of directors at Bluefield College of Evangelism.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Stephen Brittin and Gregory Brittin, both of Bloomington, Ill., and Gary Brittin of Fort Myers, Fla.; a stepson, Dwight Jefferson of Gretna; a brother, Ronald Brittin of LeRoy, Ill.; a sister, Merilyn Ellrod of Columbia, S.C.; and a stepgrandson.
He was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Brittin.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday at West End Church of Christ by the Rev. Randy Parker and the Rev. Derry Grey, minister of Penn Forest Christian Church of Roanoke.
Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Melvin Gunn
Melvin William Gunn, 78, 164 Epps St., died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 20, 1921, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of William Gunn and Mary Blackwell Gunn.
He was married
to Nattie Morrison Gunn, who survives.
He was a former employee of Dan River Inc., and he served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Ann Elizabeth of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Alexandra Gunn of Washington, D.C., and Bernard Gunn of Pelham, N.C., and William Gunn of Danville; four sisters, Christina Cylburn of Landover, Md., Julia Howard and Clara McCain, both of Pelham, and Isabelle Thompson of the Bronx, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Sudie Marshall
Sudie Matherly Marshall, 97, 218 Edgewood Drive, died Thursday morning, Sept. 18, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 16, 1899, in Pulaski County, she was a daughter of John Ensor Matherly and Isabelle Largin Matherly.
She was married
to Burzilla Blaine Marshall, who died June 25, 1973.
Since 1918, she had been a resident of Danville.
In 1959, she retired from Efirds Department Store, where she was an alterations clerk.
She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren of Glen Oak Drive, and had been a member since 1921. She was a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the finance committee of the church.
She also had served as president of Women's Fellowship as well as serving 15 years as the church treasurer, and had assisted with Bible school.
Survivors include a son, Sager Elwood Marshall of Richmond; three daughters, Gerolean M. Buckner of Pulaski, Elaine M. Martin of Rustburg and June M. Blevins of Newport News; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dale Watson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Nettie Pritchett
Nettie Pearl Pritchett, 77, 605 Holbrook Ave., died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Bud Price and Daisy Price.
She was married
to James E. Pritchett, who predeceased her.
Survivors include two sons, James Junior Pritchett and Donald Ray Pritchett, both of Danville; two daughters, Darlene King of Danville and Janet L. Johnson of Greensboro, N.C.; and three brothers, Bud Price Jr. of Pennsylvania, Rutledge Price of North Carolina and Lou Price of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 6629 Old Richmond Road.
Thomas Wimbush
LANDOVER, MD. - Thomas Wayne Wimbush, 41, 2336 Kent Village Drive, died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Va.
Born March 19, 1956, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James Thomas Wimbush and Kathleen Wimbush, who survive.
He was married
to Sheila Glass Wimbush, who survives.
He was a member of Riceville Baptist Church.
He was a rail station manager for the Washington, D.C., Metro System.
In addition to his parents of Java, Va., and his wife, survivors include three stepsons, Orlando Glass of Chase City, Va., Eryk Glass of Roswell, Ga., and Bryant Glass of Fairfax, Va.; three brothers, Quintin Wimbush of Java, Va., Kelvin Wimbush of Eden, N.C., and Shuan Wimbush of Landover; five sisters, Linda Dixon of Landover, Kathy Hutchin, Jacqueline Wimbush and Harriett Price, all of Danville, Va., and Priscilla Jessup of Greensboro, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Mountain Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Arthur E. Crews. Burial will be in Riceville Church cemetery.

Elizabeth Yeatts
Elizabeth Jones Yeatts, 77, 1072 Little Creek Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 22, 1919, in Dry Fork, she was a daughter of Lester Jones and Lillie Hearp Jones.
On June 18, 1938, she was married
to Curtis C. Yeatts Sr., who survives.
Until her retirement, she had worked in the credit department at Sears for 25 years.
She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Joyce Y. Caudle of Danville; and a son, Curtis C. Yeatts Jr. of Danville.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Beulah Burrell, Bethel Scearce and Estelle Cox.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Joe Beck. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, 444 Berkshire Drive.
James Brooks
UNION HALL - James Edgar Brooks, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at a local hospital.
He was married
to Nena Belle Brown Brooks for 65 years, who predeceased him.
Survivors include two sons, Edgar Clinton Brooks of Union Hall and James Euell Brooks of Chatham; two daughters, Neva Farris of Rocky Mount and Mamie Browning of Smyrna, Tenn.; a sister, Gladys Brooks Dudley of Glade Hill; a brother, Woodrow Brooks of Rocky Mount; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mount by the Rev. J. Larry Holland. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Park.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday, and the family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
'Ping' Taylor
Ruth "Ping" Dillard Taylor, 70, 2 Milton Ave., died Friday afternoon, Sept. 19, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1927, in Danville, she was a daughter of Avery P. Dillard and Della Mae Adams Dillard.
On April 25, 1953, she was married
to Otha Lee Taylor, who survives.
She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Susan "Sue" T. Glasgow of Danville; a sister, Velma D. Hogan of Danville; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Mae D. Hurd.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Schoolfield cemetery by the Rev. Johnny Jones and the Rev. Duane Blevins.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, 207 West Woodlawn Drive.
