David Wilkerson
David Richard Wilkerson, age 74, of 33 Elizabeth St., died Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center, following a decline in health since 1968.
Born May 1, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, Mr. Wilkerson was a son of the late James Walter Wilkerson and Alice Newton Wilkerson.
Mr. Wilkerson was predeceased by his wife, Frances Keaton Wilkerson; an infant daughter; his stepmother, Mary Wilkerson; and three brothers, Harry Wilkerson, Elam Wilkerson and Willie Lee Wilkerson.
Mr. Wilkerson spent most of his life in Danville, where he worked as a well driller for Jesse Mobley Well Drilling for 15 years, retiring on disability at the age of 55.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, James Ray Wilkerson and daughter-in-law, Sandra Yeatts Wilkerson of Dry Fork; two brothers, William Wallace "Bill" Wilkerson and Thomas "Tom" Wilkerson, both of Danville; two half-sisters, Christine Hammock and Sarah Dix, both of Danville; and two half-brothers, Sonny Moore and Cecil Wilkerson, both of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Lester Gayton. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home tonight from 7 until 8:30, and other times will be at the residence.

Thelma Adams
Thelma Davis Adams, 80, died Friday, June 6, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, following two years of declining health.
Born Aug. 13, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Davis and Maude Barber Davis.
She was married
to William "Billy" T. Morris, who died in June 1982.
She was a member of Floral Hills Methodist Church and the Dan River Designing Department Retirees Club.
She was formerly of the Mountain Hill community and spent most of her life in the Danville area.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a designer for Dan River Inc.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan M. Gilbert of Yorktown and Gloria M. Brandon of Danville; a sister, Virginia Hill of Reidsville, N.C.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday from Floral Hills United Methodist Church by the Rev. Darrell Campbell. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of a daughter, Gloria Brandon, 151 Cumberland Drive.

Mary Pulliam
Mary Coleman Jordan Pulliam, 83, 201 North Ave., died Friday, June 6, 1997, in her residence.
Born Aug. 26, 1913, in Danville, she was a daughter of Augusta D. Coleman and Julia Chattin Coleman.
On Oct. 20, 1934, she was first married
to Charles D. "Dee" Jordan, who died March 16, 1952. She was later married
to Albert Sagar Pulliam, who died April 16, 1978.
She spent most of her life in Danville. Prior to her retirement in 1981, she was employed by Danville Knitting Mills for many years.
She was a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Charles D. Jordan Jr. of Hendersonville, N.C.; a sister, Arlene C. Dalrymple of Danville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Richard Cobb and the Rev. Woodrow Giles. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Charles Blackstock
BLAIRS - Charles Walter Blackstock, 71, of Route 1, Box 274 E, died Saturday afternoon, June 7, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 9, 1926, in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of Guy Blackstock and Ermine Casey Blackstock.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He spent most of his life in Georgia and moved to Danville 15 years ago. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator and was the last member of his generation of the family.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Roy W. Newton.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home.
Carrie Haley
Carrie E. Haley, 91, of 148 Francis Road, Java, died Saturday afternoon, June 7, 1997, at her residence after several years of declining health.
Born March 25, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Lee Martin Eanes and Annie Gauldin Eanes.
Her husband, William Clifton Haley, died in 1972. A son, Tommy Haley, died in 1996.
She spent most of her life in Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker and member of Cascade Baptist Church. She had lived in Java at her daughter's home since December 1996.
She was the last of her generation of her family.
Survivors include three daughters, Jo Anne Soyars of Cascade, Linda Hazelwood of Danville and Peggy Beard of the residence; two sons, Bobby Haley of Reidsville, N.C., and Ronnie Haley of Martinsville; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the residence.
Thelma Morris

Lester T. Payne Jr.
Lester Travis Payne Jr., 55, of 1786 Blair Loop Road, died Friday, June 6, 1997, in Ven-Cor Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
Born March 19, 1942, in Danville, he was a son of Susie Cook Payne of Danville and Lester Travis Payne Sr.
In addition to his mother, survivors include a sister, Sally P. Hooker of Danville; and two brothers, David Payne and Charles Payne, both of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Jack Robertson in Highland Burial Park.

Olene Scott
Olene Gunter Scott, 79, of 433 Rice St., died Thursday, June 5, 1997, in Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville.
Born April 19, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John A. Gunter and Maggie Johnson Gunter. She was married
to Sir Walter Scott, who predeceased her.
Survivors include four sisters, Geraldine Gunter, Odella G. McIntye and Juanita G. Craft, all of Danville, and Bettie G. Duke of Burtonsville, Md.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from White Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Walter Tinsley. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Hazel Altice
Hazel King Altice, 82, 175 Alpine Drive, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several months of declining health.
Born Nov. 8, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John F. King and Lucy Belva Warren Altice.
On Sept. 1, 1934, she was married
to Willard Byrd Altice Sr., who died May 18, 1975.
She spent her entire life in Danville and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Willard B. Altice Jr. of Richmond and Walt K. Altice of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Johnnie M. King of Yorktown and G. Berkley King of Hampton; two sisters, June K. Adams of Danville and Ola Hawthorne of Hayes; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Oscar Alva King.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ferd Wagner. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of a sister, June Adams, 113 Tamworth Place, Danville.
