Louise "Gin" Anderson
Louise "Gin" Anderson, 75, of Riverside Health Care Center, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, in her residence.
She was born July 26, 1921, in Danville.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by U.S. Treasury as a computer operator.
She was a member of Loyal Baptist Church.
She is survived by a niece, Loretta Chappell of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Hill cemetery by the Rev. Lovelle A. Maxwell Jr.
The body may be viewed 4-8 tonight at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her niece, 160 Cedar Place, Apt. No. 1.
Everette "Ikey" Cardwell
Everette Cecil "Ikey" Cardwell, 79, of 30 Cardwell Lane, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was the husband of Sara Lovelace Cardwell.
A native of Martinsville, he was born Sept. 10, 1917, to the late Sam Reed Cardwell and the late Nannie Sue Pratt Cardwell.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Corbett Reed Cardwell.
He was a first sergeant in 116th Batalion, 29th Infantry Division. He was stationed in Scotland, England, and France, with combat in the D-Day Invasion.
He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was retired from Dupont with 30 years of service. He was a member of the 29th Division Association and the V.F.W.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four sons, Robert J. "Bob" Cardwell of Danville, George E. Cardwell of Patrick Springs, Larry R. Cardwell and Billy M. Cardwell, both of Martinsville; and four grandchildren, Larry and Apryl C. Norman Jr., Kenny and Renee C. Turner, Eric S. Cardwell and Gabe A. Cardwell.
The funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Timothy Whiteheart officiating. Interment
will be in Roselawn Burial Park with full military honors provided by Martinsville and Henry County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home, and other times at the home on Cardwell Lane.
Josephine Hassenpflug
SOUTH BOSTON - Josephine Allen Hassenpflug, 63, 1040 Belt Blvd., died Sunday, June 8, 1997, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Jan. 22, 1934, in Person County, N.C., she was a daughter of Joseph Hugh Allen and Mary Smiley Owen Allen, who survives.
She was married
to Neal Hassenpflug.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother of South Boston, survivors include two sisters, Love Martin of Danville and Mary Lea Burton of Richmond; and two brothers, Ernest Allen of Greensboro, N.C., and Steve Allen of South Boston.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Powell Funeral Home Chapel in South Boston by the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs and the Rev. Curtis Smith. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of a brother, Steve Allen, 2150 River Road, South Boston.
Sarah Y. Hoogerwerff
Sarah Yates Hoogerwerff, 84, 224 East Thomas St., died Monday, June 9, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following two years of declining health. She had been in the hospital for the past five days.
Born Sept. 18, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Shelton and Hattie Owen Shelton.
In 1953, she was married
to William Christopher Hoogerwerff, who died Jan. 7, 1971.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she had worked for the Danville Public School System for over 30 years., When she retired, she worked at G.L.H. Johnson School as assistant cafeteria manager and cashier.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Y. Talbott of Danville and Nancy Y. Rainer of Vernon Hill; two sons, Lacy Thomas Yates of Danville and James R. Yates of Texas; six stepsons; two stepdaughters; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Hattie Y. Crank.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Ron Mateer. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence, 224 East Thomas St.
Roy Logan
Roy Logan, 78, 348 Barrett St., died Saturday, June 7, 1997, at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville, N.C.
Born Nov. 7, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of David and Annie Logan.
He was married
to Irene Elizabeth Logan, who predeceased him.
Survivors include a son, Charles A. Logan of Danville; a daughter, Dorothy B. Logan of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Thelma Callands, Earline Graves, Clara Bell Pickard and Fannie Broadnax of Reidsville, N.C.; two brothers, Otis Logan of Reidsville and Willie Logan of Brooklyn; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Bluestone Baptist Church by the Rev. John B. Doe. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, 348 Barrett St., Danville.

Ellen Bray
MARTINSVILLE - Ellen Shearin Bray, 90, of King's Grant Retirement Community, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, in the center following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 7, 1907, in Warren County, N.C., she was the daughter of Nellie Perkinson Shearin and John Henry Shearin.
She was married
to Dorsey Thomas Bray on Feb. 12, 1927.
She was educated in Danville Public Schools and was retired from Belk Leggett.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her husband of King's Grant Retirement Community, survivors include one son, Stuart W. Bray and his wife, Shirley B. Bray of Danville; one daughter, Dale B. Castiglione and her husband, Pete Castiglione of Danville; and five grandchildren, Shearin M. Light, David W. Bray, Keith D. Bray, Anna Marie Castiglione and Peter D. Castiglione III.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jack Heinsohn. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Townes Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at the home of her son, Stuart Bray, 131 London Bridge Drive.

Nannie L. Doe
Nannie Lou Doe, 80, Rison Street, died Monday, June 9, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Jan. 9, 1917, she was the daughter of Paul Jones and Elsie Doe Jones.
Survivors include one son, Hugh Willie Doe of Washington, D.C.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. today at Bennett Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Clarence Hairston. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

GRETNA - Brianah Renaye Fuller was born and died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her parents, Margie Renee Moore and Brian Keith Fuller; maternal grandparents, Lindsey and Patsy Moore of Gretna, and Patricia Tuck Cook of Vinton; paternal grandparents, Larry and Sue Fuller of Callands; maternal great-grandparents, J.T. and Betty Tuck of Penhook and Pete Moore of Chatham, and paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Adkins of Callands; and maternal great-great-grandmother, Elsie Tuck of Penhook.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. today at Greenpond Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. John Muth.

Durham L. Hardison Jr.
A memorial service for Durham L. Hardison Jr. will be held will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Mayberry Presbyterian Church in Meadows of Dan.
Hardison, 76, 142 Northwest Blvd., died April 17, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1921, in Danville, he was a son of Durham Lloyd Hardison Sr. and Selma Iris Yeatts Hardison.
He was married
to Mary Pierce Hardison on Dec. 23, 1939.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Prior to retirement, he was employed as a salesman for Danville Meat Supply.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Jean H. Wheeler of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Joyce H. Soyars of Eden, N.C.; and three sons, George P. Hardison of Danville, Durham L. Hardison III of Ringgold and Ted Hardison of Nashville, Tenn.
