Eva W. Hardy
Eva Wilkinson Hardy, 99, formerly of Brosville, died early Wednesday morning, June 11, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had resided since November.
Born Jan. 21, 1898, in Danville, she was a daughter of Littleton Sidney Wilkinson and Nora Ann Russell Wilkinson.
She was married
to Martin Luther Hardy Sr. on June 22, 1929. He died June 22, 1978.
She had spent most of her life in the Brosville community of Pittsylvania County.
She was a member of Brosville United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School and belonged to the United Methodist Women of the church.
She was also a charter member of Brosville Women's Club. She had attended Harrisonburg State Teacher's College and the University of Virginia.
She had been employed as a schoolteacher for the Pittsylvania County School Board.
Survivors include two sons, Martin L. Hardy Jr. and Russell W. Hardy, both of Danville; two brothers, Linwood S. Wilkinson and Woodrow W. Wilkinson, both of Danville; one sister, Russell W. Allen of Danville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Brosville United Methodist Church by the Rev. J. Richard McDowell. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Martin L. Hardy Jr., 136 Hayes Court in Westover Hills.

Attalane C. Overby
Mrs. Attalane Clark Overby, 79, 231 S. Ridge St., Apartment 124, died early Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health of three years and a one-day stay in the hospital.
Born April 28, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Ras C. Clark and Quillie Hyler Clark.
She was married
to Joe William Overby, who predeceased her.
She had lived in the Brosville community of Pittsylvania County for many years and had worked for Dan River Inc. in her earlier years, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Blairs Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Lavonne Overby Clay, Betty Overby Williams and Gloria Overby Snoke, all of Danville; two sons, Richard Overby and Dennis Overby, both of Danville; one sister, Erna Shiverly of Danville; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home by the Rev. James Albert and the Rev. Luther Lemon Jr. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, Lavonne Clay, 37 Ashlawn Drive.
Inez Biggs
AXTON - Inez Wilson Biggs, 72, 3717 Brookside Road, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born July 24, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charlie Wilson and Beulah Mooreman Wilson.
Survivors include three brothers, Charlie B. Wilson and James C. Wilson, both of Sandy River, and Henry C. Elmore of Camden, N.J.; and a sister, Sadie B. Thornton of Sandy River.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Mt. Tatum Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Joseph Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ellen Bray
MARTINSVILLE - Ellen Shearin Bray, 90, of King's Grant Retirement Community, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, in the center following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 7, 1907, in Warren County, N.C., she was the daughter of Nellie Perkinson Shearin and John Henry Shearin.
She was married
to Dorsey Thomas Bray on Feb. 12, 1927.
She was educated in Danville Public Schools and was retired from Belk Leggett.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her husband of King's Grant Retirement Community, survivors include one son, Stuart W. Bray and his wife, Shirley B. Bray of Danville; one daughter, Dale B. Castiglione and her husband, Pete Castiglione of Danville; and five grandchildren, Shearin M. Light, David W. Bray, Keith D. Bray, Anna Marie Castiglione and Peter D. Castiglione III.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jack Heinsohn. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Townes Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at the home of her son, Stuart Bray, 131 London Bridge Drive.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church capital improvement fund.
Madison "Moogie" Jackson
Madison M. "Moogie" Jackson, 82, formerly of 302 Dyer Store Road, Martinsville, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, in Stanleytown Health Care Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Luzetta Wells and Madison Jackson.
He was married
to Ruth Gravely Jackson, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Lois Brown of Martinsville; three sons, Dwight Jackson, Donald Jackson and David Jackson, all of Martinsville; a sister, Ranie Gibson of Chatham; two brothers, Stonewall Jackson and Cassell Jackson, both of Martinsville; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today from County Line Christian Church by the Rev. Dean Ashby and the Rev. Craig Hogen. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Fred Morris
CASCADE - Fred Wayne Morris, 54, 2212 Cascade Road, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following a short time of declining health.
Born Jan. 12, 1943, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Bernard Lee Morris and Mary Adkins Morris.
On July 15, 1995, he was married
to Evelyn Still Morris, who survives.
He spent his entire life in Pittsylvania County and Danville.
He was employed by Dan River Inc. as assistant department manager for the Schoolfield Division Dye House.
He was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a stepson, G. Robert Still Jr. of Cascade; a stepdaughter, Annette S. Caswell of Cascade; two brothers, T. Neal Morris and Jeffrey L. Morris, both of Danville; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Cooper L. Morris.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday from Welcome Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Hussey. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence, on State Route 622, off Route 58 West.
Jennie Hughes
Jennie Ann Owen Hughes, 88, formerly of 106 Cedar Lane, Ringgold, died Friday, June 13, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, following two years of declining health.
Born Oct. 6, 1908, in Sycamore, she was a daughter of Bruce Wooding Owen and Emma Shelton Owen.
She was married
to Charlie Kelsie Hughes, who died Nov. 26, 1976.
She spent most of her life in the Ringgold community of Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker. She had been a resident of the nursing home for two years.
She was a charter member of Floral Hills United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for a number of years. She was also past president of U.M.W. and a member of the senior citizens group of the church.
Survivors include four sons, C. Kelsie Hughes Jr. of Lynchburg, Bruce W. Hughes and E. Garrett Hughes, both of Ringgold, and H. Patrick Hughes of Wilkesboro, N.C.; two sisters, Thelma O. Michaels of Arlington, Texas, and Gertrude O. Russell of Altavista; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Charlie Owen.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Darrell Campbell and the Rev. Carl Burger. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday and other times at the residence of a son, Bruce W. Hughes, 390 Cedar Lane, Ringgold, on Route 734, off Route 58 East.
Russell Kimbro
MARTINSVILLE - Russell Lea Kimbro, 71, 115 Stuart Ridge Road, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, in North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C.
For 49 years, he was married
to Ruth Briggs Kimbro, who survives.
Born April 18, 1926, in Leasburg, N.C., he was a son of Julius Arthur Kimbro and Minnie Lunsford Kimbro.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by E.I. DuPont Co. as a technical assistant for 38 years.
He was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Valerie K. Tumlin of Newport News; a son, Russell L. Kimbro Jr. of Kernersville, N.C.; a sister, Peggy K. Hunt of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Carlton E. Kimbro of Eden, N.C., and Julius A. Kimbro of Burlington, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Union United Methodist Church in Leasburg by the Rev. Creighton Beatty. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Bessie Purdum
Bessie Vaden Purdum, 91, of Danville, passed away Friday, June 13, 1997, in Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg. She died of complications from a stroke and a broken hip.
She was the widow of James Franklin Purdum.
She had been residing with her devoted daughter, Ione P. Burton and her husband, P.J. "Jim" Burton Jr. of 7103 Suncrest Drive, Lynchburg, Va., 24502.
Born Nov. 12, 1905, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late John Anderson and Myra Lillard Vaden.
She was a charter member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Danville.
She was educated in the Danville public schools and attended State Teachers College (now Longwood).
She was retired from Danville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Purdum had worked for Westbrook Elevator for 25 years prior to working with Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis C. Vaden and Johnnie L. Vaden.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by two sisters, Carmen V. Funk of Danville and Myra V. Morris of Burlington, N.C.; one brother, Claude J. Vaden of Danville; and four grandchildren, William J. Burton and James E. Burton of Lynchburg, Robert J. Burton of Clifford and Carmen B. Moritz of Hayes.
She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives. She had many friends in Danville and Lynchburg.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Ron Mateer. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
