Ollie Wells
DRY FORK - Ollie H. Holley Wells, 75, 10660 Franklin Turnpike, died Wednesday night, June 25, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home after five years of declining health.
Born Jan. 8, 1922, she was a daughter of Leonard H. Hearp and Daisy Stowe Hearp.
She was married
to P. Albert Holley. She was later married
to Robert J. Wells Jr., who predeceased her.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church at Dry Fork.
She spent her life in the Dry Fork community.
She was employed by Dan River Inc., and retired from the Pittsylvania School System, where she worked in the cafeteria at Whitmell Elementary School.
Survivors include a son, Kevin M. Holley of Dry Fork; a stepdaughter, Angela Alexander of Danville; a brother, Leonard Hearp of Dry Fork; four sisters, Inez H. Holley of Dry Fork, Boots Ryan and Lucy Burnette, both of Danville, and Eunice H. Hall of Kingsport, Tenn.; one grandchild; and one stepgrandchild.
She was predeceased by a brother, Dempsey Hearp, and a sister, Lillian Haymore.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Roger Collins, the Rev. Cecil Coates and the Rev. Mike Hearp. Burial will be held at Emmanuel Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the church, and other times at the son's residence, 10660 Franklin Turnpike.

Ruth Eanes
Ruth Cuddy Eanes, 85, 64 Morris Ave., died Friday morning, June 27, 1997, at her residence, following a year of declining health.
She was born Feb. 26, 1912, in Pittsylvania County.
She was married
to Ernest Owen Eanes, who died July 24, 1978.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she worked for Dan River Inc. in the No. 1 spinning room until her retirement in 1977.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Stowe and Vivian Sage, both of Danville; one brother, Hampton Stump of Hampton; one sister, Connie Warren of Sanford, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Maggie Hill, and a brother, Douglas Stump.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Bill Adams.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Carroll Hamlett
ORANGE - Carroll Ray Hamlett, 55, 246 Blue Ridge Drive, died Friday, June 27, 1997, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born Nov. 1 1941, in Brookneal, he was a son of Courtney Earl Hamlett and Pauline Puckett Hamlett.
He was married
to Marsha "Marty" Sue Smith Hamlett, who survives.
He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Orange.
He was the former president and C.E.O. of Ricketts Long Term Care Pharmacy.
He was a member of Orange Masonic Lodge, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and the Virginia Pharmaceutical Association. He was also a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association, the Commonwealth Club and a former member of the board of directors for the Patrick Henry Home for Boys.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Susan Carroll Hamlett Birdsong of Richmond; a brother, Bobby Edward Hamlett of Danville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Orange by the Rev. Scott Hennessy. Burial will be held at Unionville Christian Church cemetery in Unionville.
The family will receive friends 6-9 tonight at the residence.

Taylor Motley Sr.
Taylor Hodges Motley Sr., 87, formerly of 216 College Ave., died Thursday night, June 26, 1997, in Piney Forest Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for three weeks.
Born Jan. 30, 1910, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of David Taylor Motley and Frances Hodges Motley.
For 61 years, he was married
to Virginia Page Bass Motley, who died May 15, 1997.
Prior to his retirement, he was secretary and treasurer of Westbrook Elevator. After retirement, he was employed by Kendall M. Lumber Co. Inc. and Danville Bookkeeping & Income Tax.
For 54 years, he was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was secretary of Garnett Norton Fellowship Sunday school class. He also served as usher and trustee and as a member of Triple L and Singing Seniors at the church.
He was a member of Danville Optimist Club, where he served as secretary until his health began to fail.
He graduated from Virginia Mechanics Institute of Technology School of Accounting and Business Administration in Richmond.
He is survived by a daughter, Page Motley Slayton of Danville; and two sons, David Motley of Grafton and T. Hodges Motley Jr. of Rocky Mount, N.C.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Francis Hunter Motley, and a sister, Jane Elizabeth Motley Palmer.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from First Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Northen, the Rev. David Gray and the Rev. David Turbyfill. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Townes Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of his daughter, 340 Virginia Ave.
Frieda Richardson
SUTHERLIN - Frieda C. Luther Richardson, 63, 9828 Kentuck Road, died Thursday, June 26, 1997, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville.
Born Oct. 6, 1933, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of James Olen Luther and Lola Myers Luther, who survives.
On Dec. 6, 1969, she was married
to Douglas R. Richardson, who survives.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. in Danville for 27 years.
She graduated from Woodlawn High School in Carroll County and attended West Virginia School of Business in Bluefield, W.Va.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and her mother, survivors include two sons, Anthony Reynolds of Atlanta and Robert Richardson of New York; two daughters, Janet Dodson and Joyce Morris, both of Danville; five brothers, Clinton Luther, Homer Luther, Odell Luther, Dennis Luther and Kennard Luther, all of Fieldale; four sisters, Lois Edwards of Ridgeway, Nancy Motley, Janice Wilson and Ineda Hart, all of Fieldale; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Gary Edwards. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

John Richardson
NEW CANEY, TEXAS - John A. Richardson, 63, Route 2, Box 105, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at Northeast Medical Center in Humble.
Born June 18, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Coleman David Richardson and Ruth Kate Haymore Richardson.
He was married
to Angeline Richardson, who survives.
He was a construction worker.
In addition to his wife of Callands, Va., survivors include a daughter, Sharon Richardson of Callands, Va.; three sons, Carroll Richardson, David Richardson, and Jeff Richardson, all of Callands, Va.; a sister, Bernice Richardson of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Earl Richardson and Aubrey Richardson, both of Danville, Va., and Douglas Richardson of Ringgold, Va.; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Harville and Louise Bryant, and a brother, Wilford Richardson.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Jerry Joseph.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Barker Funeral Home.
Jack Wells
Jack Glenwood Wells, 68, 2845 Dodson Drive, died Thursday, June 26, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 21, 1928, in Henry County, he was a son of Robert Lee Wells and Verlie Young Wells.
He was a self-employed auto mechanic.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean war.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by two daughters, Jackie Willard of Collinsville and Lisa Wells of Salt Lake City, Utah; and one grandchild.
He was predeceased by a brother, Bill Wells.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from McKee Stone Funeral Service Chapel by Pastor Karen Shelton and the Rev. Roy Newton. Interment
will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

Laura Ferris
Laura Gammon Ferris, 70, 675 Arnett Blvd., Apartment No. 6-B, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at her residence following several years of declining health.
Born April 23, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Zade P. Gammon and Flossie Gammon Gammon.
She was married
to Alvin H. Ferris, who died Feb. 5, 1978.
She lived her entire life in the Danville area.
She worked for Danville Regional Medical Center as a nurses aid for 25 years until her retirement due to health reasons.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Allen J. Ferris, David S. Ferris and Garry W. Ferris, all of Danville; two sisters, Edna G. Dalton of Danville and Doris G. Mowery of Richmond; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gammon Family cemetery, on Vandola Road off Route 58 West, by the Rev. Larry Aaron.
