Nannie Gee
AXTON - Nannie Margaret Stone Gee, 73, 8427 Irisburg Road, died Tuesday afternoon, July 1, 1997, at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville.
She was born in Rockingham County, N.C.
She was married
to Sidney Oliver Gee, who predeceased her.
She was a charter member of Irisburg Baptist Church, and was retired from Spray Cotton Mill.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Stone of Eden, N.C., and Michael Gee of Axton; three daughters, Ann Barker of Axton, and Wanda Hall and Shirley Wright, both of Ridgeway; four brothers, George Stone Jr. of Reidsville, N.C., Randolph Stone of Martinsville, and William Howard Stone and Curtis Stone, both of Eden, N.C.; two sisters, Sue S. Turner of Danville and Barbara Ann Stone of Axton; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Gary Wayne Gee.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Fair Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Ridgeview cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
John Hundley
John Henry Hundley Jr., 75, 155 Holbrook St., died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 14, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Hundley Sr. and Rosa Conley Hundley.
He was married
to Phebe Carter Hundley, who survives.
He was a member of St. James Baptist Church for more than 60 years.
He was a longtime member of American Legion Posts 29 & 325 and Disabled American Veterans. He was one of the last Buffalo Soldiers.
He attended Danville Public Schools. He graduated from Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Ala., where he was trained in auto mechanics. He was a mechanic in this area, where he operated a shop for more than 50 years.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Michael Hundley and James Wooding, both of Danville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, Holbrook Street, by the Rev. Leon Parker.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Hattie Lassiter
GRETNA - Hattie Keesee Lassiter, 73, 104 Motley St., died Monday, June 30, 1997, at her residence.
Born Oct. 6, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William Lundy Keesee and Ruth Pickeral Keesee.
She was married
to Andrew "Dick" Lassiter Sr., who survives.
She was a member of Gretna Christian Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, June Newsome of Burlington, N.C., and Betty Jo Mason of Gretna; two brothers, Willard H. Keesee of Danville and Edward M. Keesee of Gretna; four sisters, Marie K. Bandy of Danville, and Lena K. Wilkes, Norris K. Wilkes, and Louise K. Yeatts, all of Gretna; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Andy Lassiter.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Gretna Christian Church by the Rev. Cecil Rhodes. Burial will be held at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Walter Poteat
Walter David Poteat, 64, 611 Reid St., Apt. C, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at his residence.
Born Oct. 6, 1932, in North Carolina, he was a son of William Hill Poteat and Emma Abbott Poteat.
He was married
to Onnie Watkins Poteat, who predeceased him.
He was an employee of Danville Lumber Company for many years.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Vasquez and Wannetta Ingram, both of Danville, and Debra Murray of Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Willie James Poteat of Danville; one sister, Mary Ella Willis of New York; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home Chapel by Douglas Curry. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery.

Robert Bassett
NEW YORK - Robert Bassett, 72, died Saturday, June 28, 1997.
Born Dec. 3, 1924, he was a son of Robert Bassett Sr. and Mamie Owens Bassett, who survives.
He was retired from General Motors after working 30 years as the company foreman.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville, Va., survivors include a sister, Ada Bassett; a daughter, Jean Clark of Danville, Va.; and many grandchildren.
Garnett Courts
Garnett Barksdale Courts, 72, 125 Northern Road, died Monday, June 30, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1925, in Chatham, she was a daughter of Whit Barksdale and Pearl White Barksdale.
She was married
to Frank Courts, who survives.
She worked for Dibrell Brothers for many years before retiring.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sisters, Era Poole, Vera Womack and Louise Barksdale, all of Danville; and a brother, Norton Barksdale of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be held at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

'Phil' Myrick
William A. "Phil" Myrick Sr., 53, 548 Arlington Road, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 9, 1944, in Henderson, N.C., he was a son of James Eli Myrick and Shirley Lloyd Faucette, who survives.
He was married
to Mary Harper Myrick, who survives.
For the last 25 years, he lived in Danville. Prior to that, he lived in Burlington, N.C.
He was the owner and operator of Magic Tunnel Car Wash for the 20 years, and worked in sales for Wimmer & Wimmer Inc. for the last six years.
He was a member of the Tuscarora Country Club.
He was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include two sons, Randy Myrick and Billy Myrick, both of Danville; two daughters, Linda M. Motley and Tammy M. Moxley, both of Danville; a sister, Joan Pendergrass of Burlington, N.C.; four brothers, Billy Myrick of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Tommy Myrick, Junior Faucette and J.E. Faucette, all of Burlington, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his stepfather, Alton R. Faucette.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Cecil Coates. Interment
will be held at Highland Burial Park.

Frances Pierce
MATTAPONI - Frances C. Pierce, 83, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997.
She was married
to G. Wiley Pierce, who predeceased her.
She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Barton of Baltimore, Sarah Crumpton of Danville and Betty Sears of Saluda; three sons, Roland Pierce of Colonial Heights, Sherman Pierce of Newport News and Eugene Pierce of West Point; a brother, Irving B. Carlton of Mattaponi; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope United Methodist Church, Gloucester County. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda, and other times at the residence in Mattaponi.
Charlie 'Ed' Saunders
HURT - Charlie Edward "Ed" Saunders, 70, 1784 Grit Road, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997.
Born March 2, 1927, in Dinwiddie County, he was a son of Charlie Henry Saunders and Ida Dalton Saunders.
He was married
to Madalene Rowland Saunders, who survives.
He was a retired department head with Klopman Mills and a farmer.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was associated with Stacy Compton Racing.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sisters, Gladys Shelton and Virginia Jacobs, both of Gretna, and Doris Epperson of Hurt.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Booker Saunders and Noel Saunders.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Midway Baptist Church by the Rev. Lynn Marstin. Interment
will be at Gretna Burial Park.
