Thelma Boyer Hall
Thelma Boyer Hall, 88, of Galax, VA, died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Waddell Nursing Home. She was born in Grayson County, VA on January 20, 1916 to Thomas and Margie Austin Boyer. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Amburn; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Geneva Boyer all of Galax; grandchildren and spouse, Kelly Frost, Galax; Christopher and Celeste Amburn, Galax; great grand-daughter, Rianna Frost, Galax; step great grandchildren, Keshia Shumate, Galax; Troy Shumate, Cana; step great-great grandchildren, Clay Shumate, Cana; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Claude Bernard Hall, Jr. and Rodney Sherwood Hall; five sisters, alma Bartlett, Virginia Anderson, Ruth Miko, Mary Ballard and Fredna Smith; one brother, John "Bill" Boyer. Funeral service was Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Tom Ballard officiated. Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family extends a special thanks to Waddell Nursing Home Staff for their genuine love and care given to Mrs. Hall.

Robert Roosevelt ("Tommy") Isaacs, 90, of Greeneville, TN, died Apr. 24, 2004 at Laughlin Heathcare Center, Greeneville, TN. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. and Carolyn Masters Isaacs, Greeneville, TN; a grandson; two great grandchildren. A private burial for the family members was held Apr. 28, 2004 at Providence Methodist Church, Fries. The Reverend Gloria Rudy officiated. Celia Faye Pierce, 91, of Galax, died Apr. 19, 2004 at Twin County Regional Hospital. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Burline and M.J. Funk, Evelyn and Richard Deisher all of Galax; Dorothy and Ed Pridemore, Acworth, GA; Jeni and John Rutherford, Deerfield Beach, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Earl Dean and Carolyn Pierce, Fries; sister, Louise Poff, San Diego, CA; half sisters, Nira Maye and Louise Johnson, both of Sophia, WV; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Funeral service was Apr. 21, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Chapel. Rev. Randy Morris and John Rutherford officiated. Interment was in Providence Cemetery.

Earl Richardson, 76, of Galax, died Apr. 21, 2004 at Twin County Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Alene Richardson, Galax; son, Jeff Richardson, Rock Hill, SC; brother, Pete Richardson, Roanoke; three grandchildren. Graveside service and interment was Apr. 23, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Felts Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Mark Kilbourne officiated. Military Rites were by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. Anna Aline Shupe, 86, of Fries, died Apr. 18, 2004 at her residence. She is survived by fours sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Arlin and Nata Shupe, Troutdale; Rev. Olin and Elizabeth Shupe, Vivian and Evelyn Shupe, Rev. Bill and Janet Shupe all of Fries; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren. Funeral service was Apr. 21, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Atkins Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Joe Carrico officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Harold Fenstermaker officiated. Burial was in the Sutphin Family Cemetery.

Mr. Vass is survived by his wife, Callie Vass, of the home; children and spouse, William Randolph Vass, Hillsville; Carolyn and Tommy Alderman, Hillsville; Patricia Nelson, Galax; sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and Curtis Webb, Hillsville; sister-in-law, Mava Vass, Hillsville; five grandchildren and spouses, Jeffrey and Darlene Vass, Scott and Allison Alderman, Craig and Tracy Bowman, Amy and Mark Turbyfill, Travis and Danielle Alderman; eight great grandchildren. Mr. Vass was predeceased by his parents, Rufus Early and Anna Laura Nester Vass; his brother, William Hassell Vass. Funeral service was Thursday, April 22, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Crooked Oak Baptist Church. Rev. Oscar Hill and Rev. Bobby Davis officiated. Burial was in Crooked Oak Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday, April 21, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. The body lied in state one hour preceding the service. Masonic Rites by Hillsville Masonic Lodge 193 AF & AM were conducted at the cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Weddle, Galax; two sons and daughters-in-law, Geoge S. and Sandra Weddle, Fancy Gap; E. Leon and Dianne Weddle, Winston Salem, NC; grandchildren, John Weddle, Paul Weddle, Richard Weddle, Wendy Riggs; great grandson, Cooper John Riggs. Graveside service and burial was Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Galax City Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, April 20, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville.

Amy Ruth Stoneman, 28, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 at her home as the result of a fire. Amy was born June 25, 1980 in Galax to Ella Ruth Stamper and William Robert Stoneman. She is survived by her daughter, Brittany Angel Stoneman of Galax; mother, Ella Ruth Stoneman of Galax; father, William Robert Stoneman of Mt. Airy, NC; three sisters, Lisa Sue Tate, Ashley Marie Stoneman, Cassandra Sue Yelton all of Galax, several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held Saturday Jan. 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Myron Dalton and Pastor Craig Edwards officiating. Interment followed in the Piney Creek Church Cemetery, Alleghany County, NC. A guestbook is available on line at www.vaughanguynn.com.
