James Yeatts
CHESAPEAKE - James Sanford Yeatts, 77, 712 Gainesborough Court, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997, in Chesapeake General Hospital following several years of declining health.
Born Jan. 29, 1920, in Danville, he was a son of Charles Sanford Yeatts and Pinkie Shelton Yeatts.
He lived in Chesapeake after retiring from the U.S. Air Force with 19 years of service. After his retirement, he was self-employed.
Survivors include two sisters, Frances Y. Rogers of Danville and Minnie Y. Reynolds of Chesapeake.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Davis.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Frances Rogers, 124 Carrollton Road off Audubon Drive.

Veleatta Adams
FORT WASHINGTON, Md. - Veleatta Antionette Adams, 25, 2602 Brinkley Road, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997, in an automobile accident in Greensboro, N.C.
Born April 1, 1972, in Eden, N.C., she was the daughter of Phillip Stanley Adams and Betty Hairston Adams.
In 1994, she graduated from Radford University in Virginia.
She was the assistant director of public affairs with the National Association of Retired Federal Employees in Washington, D.C.
In addition to her parents of Danville, Va., survivors include a sister, Vickie Adams-Lovelace of Danville; a brother, Stanton V. Adams of Danville; a half brother, Dominique Lee of Reidsville, N.C.; a half sister, Tekela Lee of Reidsville; a maternal grandfather, Wesley E. Hairston of Reidsville; 10 aunts; and five uncles.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Cascade, Va., Highway 58 West, by the Rev. John W. Tinsley. Burial will be held at the Adams Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 7 tonight at the church, and other times at the residence of her parents, 1437 Oak Hill Road, Danville, Va.

Sherman Haymore
Sherman Taft Haymore, 88, 901 Wiley Ave., died Friday, July 4, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home following several years of declining health.
Born Jan. 16, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James Zebudee Haymore and Ethel Mitchell Haymore.
On Feb. 14, 1971, he was married
to Wilma Holley Quesenberry Haymore, who survives.
He lived his entire life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area.
Before his retirement, he worked as a wrapper in No. 1B weave at Dan River Mills Inc.
He was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Mariolyne H. Griffith of Cascade; a son, Sherman Kenneth Haymore of Midlothian; a sister, Jimmie H. Collins of Ringgold; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Elsie Hearp Haymore.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Henry Taylor. Burial will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Edna Martin
A graveside service for Edna Mae Green Martin, 83, 118 Colonial Place, will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Freddy J. Vicks and the Rev. Robert Miller.
She died Thursday, July 3, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following two years of declining health.
Born Dec. 6, 1913, in Leaksville, N.C., she was a daughter of Daniel B. Green and Sallie Mattie Garrett Green.
She was married
Oct. 21, 1938, to John Oscar Martin Sr., who died Nov. 18, 1984.
She lived most of her life in Danville.
She was member of Third Avenue Christian Church, where she was a member of the Chapel Bible Class.
She was retired. She had worked at Dan View Restaurant and at Mary's Diner, where she worked on the serving line.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann L. Crane of the residence; a sister, Frances G. Bowen of Greenville, S.C.; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Carl L. Lester Jr.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Ella Simmons
ALTON - Ella Day Pulliam Simmons, 90, 3148 Harmony Road, died Friday, July 4, 1997, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
Born Oct. 25, 1906, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Bob Pulliam and Jennie Thomas Pulliam.
She was married
to Emmett Simmons, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara J. Harris and Virginia Simmons, both of Alton, Nannie F. Simmons of Danville and Martha Lee Hite of South Boston; three sisters, Roxie Smith of Virgilina, and Anna Thaxton and Mary Talley, both of South Boston; a brother, Jordan Pulliam of Virgilina; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Aarons Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Cooke. Burial will be held at Aarons Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Virgilina.

Mae Stephens
Mae Bertha Stephens, 75, of Riverside Health Care Center died Thursday morning, July 3, 1997, in the nursing home.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Alexander Stephens and Sallie Stephens.
She was the last survivor of 15 children.
She was retired from Virginia Tobacco Company.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Progressive Club.
She was member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she served in the choir and the missionary circle.
Survivors include a son, Morris Lea of Danville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Pelham, N.C., by the Rev. Haywood T. Gray. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Morris Lea, 933 Paxton St.

Addie Curley
Addie Ferrell Curley, 87, 238 First St., died Thursday, July 3, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 28, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Raleigh and Mattie Martin Ferrell.
She was married
to Willie Curley, who survives.
She was an hourly employee of Dibrell Tobacco Co.
She was a member of White Rock Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board and Missionary Society. She was also a member of Brilliant Star Tent #126; Royal Degree Chamber #8; Lydia Chapter #74 Order of Easter Star; and the NAACP.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by one sister, Muzetta Blaine of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday from Vance Street Baptist Church by the Rev. W.J. Toomer. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. today at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence.
Luvinia Lowery
SOUTH BOSTON - Luvinia Elizabeth Lowery, 91, 103 Rosehill Drive, died Saturday, July 5, 1997 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1906, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Richard and Rebecca Ford Lowery.
She was married
to Clem S. Lowery, who predeceased her.
Prior to her retirement, she worked for Burlington Industries.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Clem S. Lowery Jr.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. today from Brooks Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. George Gravitt. Burial will be at Oak Ridge cemetery.
Lucille Motley
GRETNA - Lucille Burch Motley, 81, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, in Lake View Home, Roanoke.
Born Nov. 27, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Joel Burch and Mamie Thompson Burch.
She was married
to Willard A. Motley, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Willard Austin Motley of Lynchburg; three daughters, Charlotte Edwards of Maryland, Janet Murray of Roanoke and Vivian Meadows of Gretna; two sisters, Clara Tucker of Richmond and Billie Duggins of Newport News; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Highland Burial Park in Danville by the Rev. R.G. Rowland.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Vivian Meadows, 10701 Chalk Level Road.
