Claude Aaron
Claude Payne Aaron, 91, 1488 Claiborne St., died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. He had been in declining health for two years, and had lived the last eight months in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Jan. 20, 1906, in Newport News, he was a son of H. Edgar Aaron and Lottie Payne Aaron.
On June 5, 1926, he was married
to Hope Childress Aaron, who died on Dec. 28, 1993.
He lived most of his life in Danville, where he owned and operated Aaron-Tarpley Cleaners for 10 years.
Later, he worked in maintenance for the former Danville Memorial Hospital and the YWCA.
He was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, C. Richard Aaron of Danville; and a brother, Harry Aaron of Danville.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Conley Aaron, and three sisters, Stella A. Stowe, Ruth A. Hundley and Nora A. Smiley.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Dr. Woodrow Giles.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel.
Larry Neal Eubank Sr.
LYNCHBURG - Larry Neal Eubank Sr., 50, of 1009 White Pine Drive, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Sept. 17, 1946, in Lynchburg, he was the son of Leroy Leonard Eubank and Estelle Grogan Eubank of Evington, who survives.
He celebrated 29 years of marriage to Janice Phelps Eubank.
He was a charter member of Lakewood Baptist Church, and was employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation as maintenance operations manager, Chatham residency.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Lynn Eubank of Lynchburg; a son, Larry Neal Eubank Jr., senior airman at Vandenberg Air Force Base; a brother, David Harold Eubank Sr. of Philadelphia.
Surviving nieces and nephews include David Harold Eubank Jr., Matthew Leroy Eubank and Amanda Jane Eubank, all of Lynchburg, David Eric Phelps and Christopher Bryan Phelps, both of Vancouver, Wash., and Drew Scott Britt and Tyler Adam Britt, both of Concord; and a great-nephew, Carter Lee Eubank of Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood Baptist Church by the Rev. Ernest Carey and Dr. George Hull. A graveside service will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, and other times at the residence.

Lewis Gatewood
James Lewis Gatewood, 84, of Stratford House, 1111 Main St., died Wednesday night, July 9, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Nov. 8, 1912, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of Robert Gatewood and Bessie Lewis Gatewood.
He was married
to Virginia Parrish Gatewood, who died July 28, 1996.
He was a retired barber.
He was a charter member of Evening Lions Club, and a past master of Morotock Masonic Lodge No. 210. He also was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol G. Ballin of Columbus, Ga.; a brother, Raymond Gatewood of Danville; a sister, Annie Mayhew of Gretna; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Richard Cobb.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Townes Funeral Home, and on Sunday and Monday at the residence of Allen Payne, 3269 Virginia Lane, Blairmont Acres.
Phillip Alderson
LAKEWOOD, COLO. - Phillip Drysdale Alderson, 75, of 13844 West Pacific Ave. died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at his residence following a year of declining health.
Born Oct. 14, 1921, in Keeling, Va., he was a son of Richard Clarence Alderson Sr. and Ellen Moses Alderson.
On June 29, 1946, he was married
to Dorothy Briggs Alderson, who survives.
He lived most of his life in Lakewood.
He was retired from the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a letter carrier.
He was a member of Lakewood Church of Christ.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Donna A. Neading, Phyllis A. Phipps and Marsha A. Foster, all of Lakewood; a son, Richard W. Alderson of Lakewood; three brothers, Harold Alderson, Edward Alderson and Norman Alderson, all of Keeling, Va.; two sisters, Frances A. Tate of Sutherlin, Va., and Ruth A. Woodie of Piney Creek, N.C.; and 12 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol A. Kenney, two brothers, Clarence Alderson Jr. and Robert D. Alderson, and a sister, Mary Ellen Alderson.
The funeral will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Monday at Horan-McConaty Funeral Home in Lakewood. Burial will be held at Fort Logan National cemetery in Lakewood.
Edward Barbour
RIDGEWAY - Edward T. Barbour, 91, 6206 Soap Stone Road, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Martinsville.
Born May 15, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James Millard Barbour and Gertrude Hines Barbour.
He was married
to Elizabeth Dell Barbour, who predeceased him.
He was a farmer, and was retired from American Furniture Company.
He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Jackson Barbour and James Clyde Barbour, both of Ridgeway; two daughters, Annie Laurie Barbour of Rocky Mount and Virginia Bryant of Scottsville; four sisters, Boyd Barbour, Elizabeth Williams and Callie Jones, all of Danville, and Katherine Moore of Martinsville; a brother, Paul Barbour of Axton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice Meadows; a half sister, Curtis Gregory; and five half brothers, Clifford Barbour, Ben Barbour, Earnest Barbour, Posie Barbour and Bruce Barbour.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday at McKee-Stone Funeral Home by the Rev. Ralph Grow. Burial will be held at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at McKee-Stone Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of Jackie and Clyde Barbour.
'O.B.' Braswell
AXTON - Oscar "O.B." Lee Braswell, 49, of 76 Dickerson Drive died Friday, July 11, 1997, at his residence following two years of declining health.
Born Oct. 16, 1947, in Danville, he was a son of Marvelyn Speeler Braswell and Frances Mills Braswell.
He lived all of his life in Danville and in the Axton community.
He was a graduate of George Washington High School.
He was a member of the Paul R. Shorter, Chapter 52 of American Disabled Veteran's in Martinsville.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He served with the U.S. Army 1st Air Calvery in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include two sisters, Frankie J. Braswell and Vanna B. Terry, both of Danville; and a nephew, Stuart Lee Terry of Axton.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Shelby Royal with military honors by the Veteran's Honor Guard of Martinsville & Henry County.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence of his sister, Frankie J. Braswell, 357 Averett Place.

Sarah Clark
Sarah "Mama Sarah" Brandon Clark, 68, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, at her residence.
Born March 21, 1929, in St. Claire, Ala., she was a daughter of Eddie H. Williams and Deanah M. Williams, who survives.
She was married
to Calvin G. Brandon in 1950, who predeceased her. She was later married
to Robert H. Clark, who predeceased her.
She was educated in the Pittsylvania County schools.
She was a member at New Chapel Baptist Church, which later became Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church.
She served as a church clerk, president of the Deaconess Board, and vice president of the Missionary Society. She was also a secretary of the Senior Choir and a Sunday school teacher.
She was a retired shop stewardess for Lorillard Tobacco Company.
In addition to her mother, survivors include three sons, Larry D. Brandon, Calvin Brandon Jr. and Charlie Brandon, all of Sutherlin; four daughters, Juanita B. Williams and Gloria B. Farmer, both of Sutherlin, and Theresa B. Edmunds and Carolyn B. Edmunds, both of Danville; two stepdaughters, Francis Harris of Wyrndanch, N.Y., and Cynthia Clark of Los Angeles; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The remains may be viewed today at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.
Marion Dick
BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - The Rev. F. Marion Dick, 104, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, in Birmingham.
He was married
to Mabel Fries Dick, who predeceased him.
He was the oldest living graduate of union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va.
He served in several churches in Southside Virginia, Ahoskie, N.C., Raleigh, N.C., Meridian, Miss., and Birmingham.
He helped start three churches, First Presbyterian Church, Ahoskie, N.C., Providence Presbyterian Church, Virginia, and Shades Valley Presbyterian Church, Birmingham.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Snow of Greensboro, N.C.; a son, Dr. Marion Dick of Birmingham; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Worley and a son, Dr. Frederick Dick.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James Miller.
