Abner Glass
JAVA - Abner Glass, 91, of 752 Church Road, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 11, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Willie P. Glass and Ella Jones Glass.
He was married
to Susie Glass, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Riceville Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include seven daughters, Clara Dixon of Java, Barbara Robertson, Ruby Jackson and Dorothy Foreman, all of Jamaica, N.Y., and Forestine Jones of Halifax, Willie Sue Dance of Patterson, N.J., and Louise Glass of the residence; three sisters, Alice Glass of Blairs, Marie Womack of Danville and Naomi Elderof of Petersburg; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Riceville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Walker. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, and other times at the residence.

Michelle McLaughlin
SUTHERLIN - Michelle Devon McLaughlin, 19, of 3049 Hackberry Road, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 14, 1977, in Danville, she was a daughter of Mudia McLaughlin and Brenda Oliver McLaughlin, who survive.
She was employed by Pizza Hut and McDonalds.
In addition to her parents, survivors include a daughter, Keasia McLaughlin; four sisters, Christy Oliver, Rochelle McLaughlin, Danyelle McLaughlin, and Monica McLaughlin, all of Sutherlin; two brothers, Shalmon McLaughlin and Kenneth Oliver, both of Sutherlin; a maternal grandmother, Ella Oliver of Sutherlin; and a paternal grandmother, Susie McLaughlin of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at White Stone Holiness Church, Sutherlin, by Bishop William Yarbough. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Mabel Meadows
Mabel Virginia Meadows, 68, died early Tuesday morning, July 15, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had reside for the past 26 years.
Born Aug. 25, 1928, in the Java community of Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of George Thomas Meadows and Mabel Massey Meadows.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She was survived by her brother, George Meadows of Danville.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Fausnaugh, Lena Sloane and three brothers, Billy Meadows, Cutler Meadows and Freddy Meadows.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Hill. Interment
will be held in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Christine Redd
Christine Hairston Redd, 50, of 403 Montague St. died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 6, 1947, in Danville, she was a daughter of James Hairston and Gladys Brandon Hairston.
She was married
to General Redd.
She was a member of Disciples of Christ Redeemed Church of God.
She was retired on disability from the Tobacco Factory.
Survivors include a son, Danny L. Redd of Danville; six sisters, Kate Lee of Queens, N.Y., Shirley Hairston, Idena Rose and Jacquline Hairston, all of Danville, and Sheroune Hairston and Vanessa Hairston, both of Jersey City, N.J.; two brothers, Edward Hairston of Jersey City, N.J., and Randy Hairston of New York; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Disciples of Christ Redeemed Church of God by the Rev. Elder Peerman. Burial will be held at Oak Hill cemetery.

Lois Setliff
Lois Ferguson Setliff, 93, of 132 Gloucester Ave., died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Riverside Health Care Center following several years of declining health.
Born Nov. 2, 1903, in Danville, she was a daughter of William Blair Ferguson and Martha Susan Walker Ferguson.
She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church.
She lived her entire life in Danville.
She was retired from the Water, Gas, and Electric Department of the City of Danville, where she worked as a cashier.
Survivors include a son, Harold O. Setliff of Danville; two daughters-in-law, Margaret G. Setliff of Danville and Linda B. Setliff of Cary, N.C.; three grandchildren, Susan S. Redus, Beth S. Wollett, and Jay Setliff; and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, George Kenneth Setliff and Jack W. Setliff.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Michael Campbell.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 132 Gloucester Ave.

Ernest Roger Wilkerson Sr., 77, of 10825 Martinsville Highway, died July 13, 1997, at Veterans Hospital in Salem.
He was married
to Gladys Strange Wilkerson, who survives.
He was a native of Pittsylvania County.
He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
He was retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Larry Wilkerson of Greensboro, N.C., and Donald Wilkerson of Atlanta, and Gilbert Wilkerson and Mark Wilkerson, both of Richmond; two daughters, Joan Carter-Raynon of Atlanta and Hope Coleman-Walton of the residence; a brother, Howard Wilkerson of Danville; a sister, Ardell Hairston of Cascade; 23 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens.

GRETNA - Earnest Edward Bennett, 51, Kings Court, Apartment No. 8, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997.
Born Dec. 31, 1945, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Preston Bennett and Lena Witcher Bennett.
He was married
to Pauline W. Bennett, who survives.
He was a self-employed logger.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Earnest Bennett Jr. and Phillip Bennett, both of Danville; two daughters, Pamela Bennett and Camelia Bennett, both of the residence; a brother, Swanson Bennett of Gretna; and four sisters, Frances Hall of Gretna, Reva Wade, Cornell Waller and Lucy Thompson, all of Martinsville.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Canaan Land Church by Bishop Raymond Bennett. Burial will be held in Burning Bush Holiness Church cemetery, Pittsville.

William Ferguson
RINGGOLD - William McGhee Ferguson, 68, 501 Henry Drive, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 23, 1928, he was a son of William H. Ferguson and Julia Thomas Ferguson.
He was married
to Mildred Luck Ferguson, who survives.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he was on the usher board and trustee board.
He retired from Dan River Inc. on disability in 1973.
In addition to his wife of Ringgold, survivors include three daughters, Odunfonda "Gwen" Adaramola of Sheldon, S.C., and Oduntalami "Audrey" Adaramola of Spotsylvania County and Shelia F. Watkins of Richmond; four sisters, Maggie F. Carter of Seafort, Virginia F. Woods of Ringgold, and Betty F. Woods and Joyce F. Fitzgerald, both of Danville; two brothers, Robert M. Ferguson of Ringgold and Ernest D. Ferguson of Danville; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Johnson. Burial will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The remains may be viewed this afternoon until 8 p.m. at L.H. Brooks & Bro. Funeral Home.

Fannie Saunders
GRETNA - Fannie Jones Saunders, 91, 2372 Scotts Jacobs Memorial Drive, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Allce Teach Jones and Lelia Shelton Jones.
She was married
to William A. Saunders.
She was a member of Spring Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Otis Saunders of Danville, James Saunders of Gretna and Shirley Saunders of Hurt; four daughters, Kathleen Dunbar and Ruby Megginson, both of Danville, Irene Harding of Altavista and Jean Taylor of Maitland, Fla.; two brothers, Ernest Jones of Burlington, N.C., and Alvin Jones of Danville; four sisters, Alice Laughorne of Covington, Mae Compton and Doris Steele, both of Danville, and Dorothy Beard of Cleveland, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Spring Road Baptist Church by the Rev. Obie Harward and Ronnie Simpson. Interment
will be held in Gretna Burial Park.
