Clark Jefferson
GRETNA - Emerson Clark Jefferson, 53, 2469 Cotton Patch Road, died Thursday, July 17, 1997.
Born Feb. 4, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Hubert Jefferson and Ethel Adkins Jefferson of Gretna.
Jefferson was a member of Piney Fork Baptist Church and the owner of Clark Jefferson Painting Contractor.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Martha Haley Jefferson of the residence; two sons, Travis Jefferson of Gretna and Eric Jefferson of Penhook; two daughters, Kimberly J. Dalton and Wynette J. Burnette, both of Gretna; one brother, James H. Jefferson of Hurt; two sisters, Peggy J. Crawley and Pam J. Brooks, both of Chatham; five grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 1997, at Piney Fork Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Glass. Interment
will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of his mother-in-law, Mary Alice Haley, 603 Leftwich St., Gretna.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, Va., 24557, or to the Danville Cancer Association, 1225 West Main St., P.O. Box 2148, Danville, Va., 24541.

Frances Luther
Frances Marshall Luther, 75, 327 Brentwood Drive, died Friday, July 18, 1997, at her residence following a year of declining health.
Born May 22, 1922, in Danville, she was a daughter of Thomas Wyatt Marshall and Mable Evans Marshall.
On March 31, 1940, she was married
to John Samuel Luther Jr., who died on Jan. 10, 1953.
She lived her entire life in Danville.
Prior to her retirement in 1996, she was a bookkeeper at Fuquay Pontiac.
She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher in the primary department. She was also a member of the choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Sue Luther of the residence; and a sister, Jean M. Hudgins of Liberty, S.C.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Monday at Keen Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Campbell and the Rev. Jack Fitts. Interment
will be held at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Vincent Martin
GRETNA - Vincent O'Brian Martin, 22, 4432 Piney Road, died Thursday morning, July 17, 1997, in an automobile accident on Route 40 in the Mt. Airy community.
Born Aug. 13, 1974, in Lynchburg, he was a son of Earl E. Martin and Doris Faye Martin.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He was employed at Klopman Mills.
In addition to his parents of the residence, survivors include a sister, Jessica Martin of the residence; a brother, Justin Martin of the residence; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl O. Martin of Gretna; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Clements of Hurt.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. today at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Jimmy Tarpley. Burial will be held in Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
A repass will be held following the burial at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his maternal grandparents, 13353 Rockford School Road, Hurt.
Mary Allen
Mary Alice Bowman Allen, 84, 201 A & W Drive, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at her residence.
Born July 24, 1912, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of Dennis Calvin Bowman and Dora Lee Bowman Bowman.
She was married
to Foy Austin Allen, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Mary Margaret Williams of Danville; two sons, Talmadge Mitchell Allen and Virgil Bowman Allen, both of Danville; a sister, Mamie Hazelwood of Princeton, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Robert Vermillion and the Rev. Lawrence Williams.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Barker Funeral Home.
Thomas Collie
AXTON - Thomas Kermit Collie, 57, 1300 Hobson Road, died Friday, July 18, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was married
to Barbara Collie, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include his mother-in-law, Geneva Moxley of Axton; three stepdaughters, Tammy Overton, Rebecca East and Debra Sutphin, all of Brosville; a brother, Wayne Collie of Colonial Heights; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Sutphin and Zachary McDaniel.
He was predeceased by a sister, Kathline Carbb.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Chruch by the Rev. Gary Robertson. Burial will be held in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the church.

Tamara Crowder
EMPORIA - Tamara Michele Crowder, 33, 309 Church St., died Friday, July 18, 1997, in Emporia.
Born Aug. 29, 1963, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Wayne Crowder and Glenda Willis Crowder, who survive.
She lived her life in Lynchburg, Danville and Emporia.
In addition to her parents of Lynchburg, survivors include a brother, Derek Crowder of Richmond; a paternal grandmother, Mae McDonald Crowder of Danville; and a maternal grandmother, Virginia Willis of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday by the Rev. W.L. Wade at Highland Burial Park.

Walter Davis
GRETNA - Walter Henry Davis, 86, 311 Payne St., died Friday, July 18, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 15, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Morris Davis and Maria Miller Davis.
He was married
to Queenie E. Davis, who survives.
He was a retired employee of Bassett Furniture Company, where he worked as a machine operator.
He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Walter Truman Davis of Martinsville; three daughters, Sally Clements and Clara Mae Davis, both of Gretna and Elizabeth R. Brown of Fairborne, Ohio; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. London Walker. Burial will be held in Elba cemetery.
Henry Dillard
CHATHAM - Henry Hughes Dillard, 77, 9913 Callands Road, died Friday, July 18, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 15, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Hughes Dillard and Bessie Adkins Dillard.
He was married
to Dorothy B. Dillard, who survives.
He was a retired farmer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Callands Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Bessie Hubbard of Danville; a brother, Edsel Dillard of Chatham; and a sister, Eleanora McClanahan of Chatham.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at Callands Baptist Church by the Rev. Samuel Scales Jr. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
June Fielder
SANDY LEVEL - June Adkins Fielder, 59, 2912 Jasmine Road, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born June 24, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Tom Adkins and Texanna Dalton Adkins.
She was married
to Bryant Fielder, who survives.
She was a member of Round Pond Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include six sons, Darrell Adkins of Reidsville, N.C., and Linwood Fielder, Forrest C. Fielder and Brock V. Fielder, all of Gretna, Harry T. Fielder of Collinsville and Joel K. Fielder of Sandy Level; two daughters, Anna Thompson of Pittsville and Angela Matthews of Sandy Level; a brother, Henry Adkins of Yanceyville, N.C.; five sisters, Mary Spainhour of South Boston, Beulah Warf of Reidsville, N.C., and Bertha Daniels of Chatham, Doris Adkins of Penhook and Ruby Dillon of Pittsville; and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Allen Fielder; a brother, Earlie Adkins; and a sister, Pearl Adkins.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Round Pond Baptist Church by the Rev. A.A. Blanks, the Rev. John Belderes and the Rev. Dean Lamphere. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
