Jerry Lynch Sr.
FAIRBURN, Ga. - Jerry W. Lynch Sr., 52, 700 Greenview Circle, died Monday, July 7, 1997, unexpectedly at his job at Tara Sheet Metal Company.
Born June 13, 1945, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of Lindsey C. Lynch and Callie Beggarly Lynch.
He was married
to Martha Rentz Lynch, who survives.
He graduated from Cobb Memorial High School in 1963, and moved to Georgia in 1965.
He was a member of Local Sheet Metal Union No. 85.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Jerry W. Lynch Jr.; a stepdaughter, Connie Ethridge; a stepson, Brandon Rentz; three sisters, Dorothy L. Roberts of Pelham, N.C., and Linda L. Allen of Martinsville, Va., and Denise L. Myers of Danville, Va.; and a brother, Ronnie L. Lynch of Danville, Va.; and a grandchild and four step-grandchildren.
His funeral service was held Friday, July 11, 1997, at Pope Dickson & Son Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Jonesboro, Ga.
Kevin Mills
Kevin William Mills, 24, 345 Lindhurst Drive, died Friday, July 18, 1997, in the White Oak Mountain Game Reserve Pond.
Born Nov. 22, 1972, in Danville, he was a son of William E. Mills and Patsy Witt Mills, who survive.
He spent his entire life in Danville, where he graduated from George Washington High School and Danville Community College.
He was employed as a field engineer for Danka Copy Products.
He line danced with the Danville Dancers.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents of the residence, survivors include a sister, Donna Denise Mills of Danville; a half brother, Donald Edwin Mills of Richmond; and his maternal grandmother, Mildred Witt of Kernersville, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Michael Campbell and the Rev. Thomas E. Wright. Interment
will be held in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
James Adkins Sr.
James Oliver Adkins Sr., 81, of 248 Grove Park Circle, died Saturday evening, July 19, 1997, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C., after a two year decline in health. He was in the hospital for one week.
Born Oct. 25, 1915, in the Museville community of Pittsylvania County, he was a son of George Abe Adkins and Dolly Pearl Powell Adkins.
He had lived in Danville for 56 years. After 39 years of service, he retired from Dan River Inc. at the age of 65.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received the American Theatre Campaign medal, the Victory medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign medal with two bronze service stars.
He was a member of Westover Baptist Church, the American Legion Memorial Post 325, and the V.F.W.
On Jan. 10, 1942, he was married
to Estelle Wallace Adkins, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Brenda Adkins Boyd of Greenville, N.C., and Susan Adkins Davis of Danville; two sons, James Oliver Adkins Jr. and Michael Lee Adkins, both of Danville; four sisters, Myrtle Kendrick, Elizabeth Gibson and Christine Taylor all of Danville, and Ruby Pembleton of Amelia; two brothers, Spencer Adkins and Gold Adkins, both of Danville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Ruth Adkins, Virginia Adkins and Effie Adkins; and by two brothers, Luther Adkins and Elbert Adkins. A grandchild also preceded him in death.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
Martha Goode
SUTHERLIN - Martha Francis Valentine Goode, 71, of 9160 Melon Road, died Friday, July 18, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 7, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Robert Valentine and Mary Garland Valentine.
She was married
to Levi Goode Sr., who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include four daughters, Annie Anderson of Oxen Hill, Md., Dora Barbee of Durham, N.C., and Marlene Freeman and Lorraine Elizabeth Freeman, both of Sutherlin; six sons, Levi Goode Jr., Benjamin Franklin Goode, John Melvin Goode, Joseph Alvin Goode, Kerry Lindsay Goode and Allen Matthew Goode, all of Sutherlin; two brothers, Nelson Valentine of Danville and Roosevelt Valentine of Dry Fork; seven sisters, Ethel Farrish of Reidsville, N.C., Cora Motley and Della Echols, both of Danville, and Fannie Walters, Acquilla Walters, Lucille Hunt and Katie Valentine, all of Ringgold; and many grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday from White Oak Baptist Church, Sutherlin, by Pastor John Howard. Interment
will be in the church cemetery.
There will be a wake from 7 to 8 tonight at the Chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Rondae "Juice" Hall
GRETNA - Rondae Farhan "Juice" Hall, 17, of Kings Court Apt. 18, died Saturday morning, July 19, 1997, near Gretna.
Born July 17, 1980, in Lynchburg, he was the son of Terry Hall and James A. Younger.
He was an 11th grade student at Gretna High School, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team and Varsity Club.
He was a member of Canaan Land Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Corey Hall of the residence; two foster sisters, Javonna Bennett and Jakenuga Bennett, both of Java; his maternal grandmother, Frances Hall of Gretna; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Younger of Gretna.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Canaan Land Church by Bishop Raymond Bennett and Elder Lorenza Hall. Burial will be in the Elba cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Goldie Tune
LONG ISLAND - Goldie Earnest Tune, 70, of 5041 Buffalo Road, died Saturday night, July 19, 1997, in the Avante Nursing Home in Lynchburg.
Born Oct. 1, 1926, in Halifax County, he was a son of Golden Earnest and Nannie Waller Tune.
He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry Co. and was a member of the Republican Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Tune of the residence; two sons, Goldie Wardell Tune of Rustburg and James Howard Tune of Gladys; two daughters, Dianne Tune of Long Island and Linda Ruth Tune of Hyattsville, Md.; three brothers, Russell Tune of Washington, D.C.; Douglas Tune of Lynchburg, and Joseph Tune of Quinton; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Lee Tune, and two sisters, Rossie Hubbard and Mary Petty.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday from Republican Grove Baptist Church in Halifax County by the Rev. L.S. Otey. Burial will be in the First Buffalo Baptist Church cemetery.

Jimmie Adkins
DRY FORK - Jimmie Henry Adkins, 85, of Route 1, died Monday, July 21, 1997, at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville.
Born Mar. 30, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Fletcher A. Adkins and Rosie Lee Myers Adkins.
He was married
to Mary Love Oakes Adkins, who survives.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was retired from Dan River Mills and farming.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Betty A. Daniel of Greensboro, N.C.; three sisters, Sallie A. Bates, Annie A. Keatts and Martha Lee A. Dodd, all of Danville; a brother, Earnest Adkins of Chatham; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel, Chatham, by the Rev. Richard McDowell. Burial will be held in the Adkins Family cemetery, Chatham.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Gay Adkins, 13280 Martinsville Hwy., Cascade.
Sylvia Carr
Sylvia Reedy Carr, 80, formerly of Stratford House, 1111 Main St., died Monday, July 21, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born July 12, 1917, in Laramie, Wyo., she was a daughter of Thomas Reedy and Minnie Steele Reedy.
On Nov. 29, 1935, she was married
to Willie Paul Carr, who died May 5, 1996.
She was a former resident of Kinston, N.C., Greenville, N.C., and Bath, N.C. She had been a resident of Danville since March 1996.
She was a member of Bath United Methodist Church.
She was a retired registered nurse, and was formerly employed at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, N.C.
Survivors include two daughters, Caroline C. Smith of Danville and Jeanne C. Hart of Raleigh, N.C.; a son, Paul W. Carr of Cary, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Townes Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, Caroline Smith, 1128 Westover Drive.
Melva Duncan
Melva Ann Isom Duncan, 35, 81 Morris Ave., died Monday morning, July 21, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following two weeks of declining health and one day in the hospital.
Born April 13, 1962, in Danville, she was a daughter of Melvin Cecil Isom and Ethel Vaden Isom Hite, who survives.
She was married
to Roger Dale Duncan, who survives.
She spent her entire life in Danville, where she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Stokesland Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother of Danville and her husband of the residence, survivors include four sons, Cian Scearce, Eddie Scearce, Joshua Duncan and Jerremie Duncan, all of Danville; two sisters, Karen Harris of Providence, N.C., and Susan Chapman of Lexington, N.C.; two brothers, Danny Isom of Seminole, Fla., and Jeff Isom of Concord, N.C.; her paternal grandmother, Pearl Isom of Greenville, S.C.; and her stepfather, Dean Hite of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Don Frank. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
