Mary Owen
Mary Haar Owen, 81, died Monday, July 21, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Mar. 19, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of George Walter Haar and Mary Butcher Haar.
She was married
to Logan N. Owen, who survives.
She was formerly employed by Dan River Inc.
She was a long standing member of Lee Street Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Owen Patterson of Summerville, S.C.; two sisters, Ruby Bishop of Chatham and Helen Duffy of Durham, N.C.; a brother, Edward Haar of Danville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday in Mountain View cemetery.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mable Sommer
Mable Mann Sommer, 68, formerly of Noel Avenue, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center following four years of declining health and a month in the hospital.
Born Oct. 17, 1928, in Danville, she was the daughter of Tom Mann and Mollie Carver Mann.
She was married
to Charles Walter Sommer, who died Nov. 18, 1990.
In 1970, she moved back to Danville, where she was a homemaker.
She moved to Chatham after her health began to fail.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include two sons, John R. Sommer of Chatham and Clifton B. Sommer; two brothers, Lum Mann Sr. of Danville and John Mann of Granite Falls, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday in Green Hill cemetery by the Rev. Robert Vermillion.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of her son, John R. Sommer, 257 Old Hickory Lane, Chatham.
Lelia Ford
Lelia Snead Ford, 90, 240 Lady Astor Place, Apartment No. 1, died Monday, July 21, 1997, at her residence following two years of declining health.
Born Nov. 7, 1906, in Danville, she was the daughter of Nathaniel E. Snead and Cora Gentry Snead.
She was married
to Lynwood T. Ford, who died Jan. 9, 1994.
She spent most of her life in Danville and Alexandria, where she and her husband owned and operated the Ford Motels.
She was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Benevolent Society.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Paul G. Johnson. Interment
will be held in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the residence.

Robertta Jones
PITTSVILLE - Robertta Tallent Jones, 63, 4933 Pittsville Road, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at her residence.
Born May 13, 1934, in Macon County, N.C., she was a daughter of Henry Tallent and Maude Patterson Tallent.
She was married
to Zeb D. Jones, who survives.
She was a member of Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a retired seamstress with Doyle Enterprises.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Michelle Jones and Donna Jones, both of Harrisonburg, N.C.; a brother, James C. Tallent of Stanley, N.C.; and four sisters, Eva Waters of Pittsville, Geneva Roland and Ruth Welch, both of Greensboro, N.C., and Dorothy Roper of Franklin, N.C.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Virgil Tallent and Temple Tallent; and two sisters, Louise Williamson and Marie Rowland.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Chris Brown, the Rev. Kirby Phillips and the Rev. Woodrow Tuck. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Nannie Bailey
Nannie E. Bailey, 99, of Route 5, Box 1294, died Monday, July 21, 1997, at Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Dec. 11, 1897, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Porter Inge and Elija Jones Inge.
She was married
to Dodson Bailey, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Mt. Freeman Baptist Church, where she served on the missionary circle and senior usher board. She was the oldest member of the church.
She was a member of Eastern Star Charter 144 and United Order of Tents Chapter 122.
She worked for more than 20 years at Dan River Inc., and also had been employed at Southern Processing.
Survivors include eight nieces, Mary W. Poole, Susie Poole, Classie Inge Tarpley and Mary Inge Harris, all of Danville, Mary Blackstock of North Carolina, Ida Dickerson of Maryland, Marie I. Keyes and Inez Inge Martin, both of Camden, N.J.; and two nephews, Edward C. Inge and Roy D. Inge, both of Danville.
She was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. today at the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
Donnie Martin
CHATHAM - Donnie Clinton Martin, 48, of 4829 Sago Road, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1949, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Clinton Frances Martin and Catherine Motley Martin, who survives.
He was married
to Brenda Rakes Martin, who survives.
He was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church.
He had worked for Sarah Lee in Martinsville for 26 years, and was employed by Doyle Enterprises.
In addition to his mother of Callands and his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Donnie C. Martin Jr. and Curtis W. Martin, both of Chatham; three brothers, H. Glenn Martin of Franklin County, Terry L. Martin of Callands and Douglas W. Martin of Martinsville; two sisters, Charlotte M. Worrell of Callands and Cathy M. Hoskins of Chatham; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Tabernacle Christian Church by the Rev. Roy Parker. Burial will be held in the Martin Family cemetery in Callands.

Linwood Reynolds Jr.
Linwood O. Reynolds Jr., 77, of 1744 Ridgecrest Drive, died Wednesday morning, July 23, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health of four years and a four day stay at the hospital.
Mr. Reynolds was born in Danville on Jan. 8, 1920, a son of Linwood Oscar Reynolds Sr. and Ella Jackson Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds was married
to Doris Gray Reynolds, who survives. They were married
on Dec. 12, 1947.
Mr. Reynolds served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Reynolds had spent his entire life in Pittsylvania County, where he was a self employed farmer, and he also worked for Dan River, Inc. for 10 years before retiring.
He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Karen R. Gammons of Richmond; a son, Michael G. Reynolds of Peach Tree City, Ga.; four sisters, Lemma R. Davis and Hazel R. Gregory, both of Danville, and Rebecca R. Adkerson and Ruby R. Hutson, both of Dry Fork; three brothers, Carson Douglas Reynolds of Danville, Thurman Reynolds of Eden, N.C., and Jerome F. Reynolds of Richmond; and two grandchildren, Christopher Reynolds and Nicole Reynolds, both of Peach Tree City, Ga.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Thomas Deal and the Rev. Michael Hearp. Burial will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-8:30 tonight, and other times at the residence, 1744 Ridgecrest Drive.

Lucile Lanier
Lucile Copeland Lanier, 87, of Stratford House, 1111 Main St., Apartment No. 503, died Wednesday night, July 23, 1997, in Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born May 1, 1910, in Danville, she was a daughter of J.T. Copeland and Callie Gardner Copeland.
On Aug. 16, 1941, she was married
to J. Horace Lanier, who survives.
She attended Danville Public Schools, and graduated from Longwood College.
She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Smith Douglas for 10 years.
In 1954, she left Danville and moved to Houston. In 1959, she moved to Texas City, Texas. She moved to Virginia Beach in 1965, and returned to Danville in 1981.
She was an active member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, where she was a member of United Methodist Women Circle 1.
She was a member of P.E.O., the Wednesday Club, and the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Beth L. Theodore of Atlanta; and a granddaughter.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Copeland, Mae Bennett and Alberta Lowe; and a brother, J. William Copeland.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jay Ashby. A private burial will be held in Mountain View cemetery.
