William M. Sours
HAMPTON - William Merchant Sours, 64, died Saturday, April 19, 1997.
He was a native of Chatham in Pittsylvania County, and was a self-employed land surveyor.
He was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Hampton.
Mr. Sours attended Hargrave Military Academy, the University of Virginia and Old Dominion University.
He was a member of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping; was past president of the Virginia Association of Surveyors, Inc.; was a member of the Virginia Surveyors Foundation Ltd.; The American Society of Civil Engineers; and had served as a board member of the Virginia State Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Certified Landscape Architects.
Mr. Sours was a U.S. Army veteran, a master mason in A.F.A.M. Lodge #85 in Courtland, and 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Newport News Scottish Rite Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patsy Ann Sours; three sons, Claude Grey Sours of Franklin; Robert Paul Sours of Newport News; and John Thomas Sours of Hampton; one brother, Benjamin Franklin Sours of Hampton; two sisters, Katherine Moschler of Burlington, N.C., and Martha Young of Richmond; as well as by four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Ed Ellis in Dreweryville Memorial cemetery, in Dreweryville, at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 1997. Masonic rites will be performed.
The family will receive friends this evening 7-9 in Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
John Warren
John William Warren, 71, of 879 Arnett Blvd., died Sunday, April 20, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for several years and in the hospital for 10 days.
Born Sept. 17, 1925, in Danville, he was the son of Gus Davis Warren and Marjorie Ingram Warren.
He spent his entire life in Danville, where he worked at Dan River Inc. as a weaver in 4-B Weave, Schoolfield Division, until his health began to fail.
He was of the Baptist faith.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
On Sept. 8, 1944, he was married
to Margie Mae Burell Warren, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, John William Warren II of Pelham, N.C.; and Edward Ray Warren of Danville; three daughters, Betty Price Moore and Linda W. Bailey, both of Danville, and Susan Ann Warren of Orlando; a sister, Libby W. Emory of Alexandria; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Duane Blevins. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 Tuesday night at the funeral home, and other times will be at the residence.
William Aaron
CALLANDS - William L. "Corky" Aaron, 68, 309 Berry Road, died Monday, April 21, 1997, in his residence.
Born April 14, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Glifford Aaron and Ruth Adkins Aaron.
He was married
to Dolores Ann "Dee" Apperson Aaron, who survives.
He was of the Baptist faith and played bluegrass guitar.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by several grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Neal G. Aaron.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Chatham by the Rev. J. Haywood Alcorn. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Ralph Ferrell
Ralph Irvin Ferrell, 72, 425 North Ridge St., died Sunday, April 20, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 6, 1924, in Danville, he was a son of Jack Ferrell and Carrie Brandon Ferrell.
He was married
to Agnes Ferrell, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by P. Lorillard Inc. He also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Ralph Irvin Ferrell Jr., Quenton Ferrell and Roger Lee Ferrell, all of Danville, and Robert McKinley Ferrell of San Diego; two sisters, Daisy McFarling and Julie McColup, both of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Garrett Johnson. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

William 'Sam' Jones
ROCKY MOUNT - William "Sam" Jones, 86, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, in Elder Care.
Born Aug. 11, 1910, in Halifax County, he was a son of William Edward Jones and Sue Rice Jones.
On Aug. 31, 1946, he was married
to Lillie Smith Jones, who predeceased him.
He was self-employed as a barber in Danville for 50 years.
During World War II, he served in the Army.
He is survived by a son, William Odell Jones of Hillsborough, N.C.; a daughter, Mary Idell Johnson of Danville; a sister, Thelma Jefferson of Reidsville, N.C.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Joey Yeatts. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Joseph Barley
Joseph Lewis Barley, 52, 305 South Main St., died Friday, April 18, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 21, 1945, in Danville, he was a son of Robert L. Barley Sr. and Janie McCline Barley.
He was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for many years.
He also served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include a son, Carl Barley of Seattle; two daughters, Arnell Barley Biegelow of Raleigh, N.C., and Veronica Michelle Barley of Linden, N.J.; seven sisters, Rosa B. Reese, Shirley B. Lewis, Joan B. Shirley and Deborah A. Barley, all of Danville, Janice B. White of Temple Hills, Md., Louise B. Hendricks of Enfield, N.C., and Linda Dawson of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Robert Barley Jr. of Capitol Heights, Md., and Ben Barley of Washington, D.C.; and several grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday from Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Lovell Maxwell. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, where military rites will be given by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.

Thomas Brown
Thomas Stewart Brown, 71, 118 Mulberry Road, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 26, 1925, in Davie County, N.C., he was a son of Hugh Brown and Pansy Allen Brown.
He was first married
to Evelyn Farthing Brown, who predeceased him. He was later married
to Jeanette Anderson Brown, who survives.
He lived in Davie County before moving to Danville in 1956.
He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Dan River Inc. in the maintenance department of No. 5 Shop.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, T.A. "Tom" Brown of Dry Fork; a daughter, Patricia Anne Cartner of Davie County; four stepchildren; two sisters, Beuleh Gray Brown and Mary Frances Hellard, both of Davie County; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Trish Faye Anderson
AXTON - Trish Faye Anderson, 52, 872 George Road, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, in her residence.
She was a native of Rockingham County, N.C.
She was married
to Walter Anderson, who survives.
She was a member of Cascade United Methodist Church.
She was employed by Tultex in Mayodan, N.C.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include her mother, Lorain Hopkins of Eden, N.C.; four sisters, Mae Dean Simmons of Joshua Tree, Calif., Peggy Wade of Cascade, Sylvia Bryant of Martinsville and Deborah Shockley of Eden; and six brothers, Doug Carter of Columbus, Ga., Junior Carter of Lawsonville, N.C.; Frankie Carter, Rodney Carter, Timmy Carter, and Willie Gibson, all of Eden.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Danville Memorial Gardens.

James Campbell
James Otis Campbell, 53, 129 Elliott St., died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, in his residence, following six months of declining health.
Born Sept. 26, 1943, in Southampton County, he was a son of Ralph Campbell and Edna Whitt Campbell Bray, who survives.
On May 31, 1963, he was married
to Martha Holley Campbell, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was a member of North Main Baptist Church.
He received his bachelor of science degree from Averett College.
He was employed by Corning Inc. for 35 years and was senior support team leader.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Tammy R. Campbell of Ringgold and Cynthia Campbell Gibson of Danville; a son, Jeffrey T. Campbell of Danville; three brothers, Ralph Campbell of Martinsville, Lonnie Campbell and Harold Vernon Campbell, both of Danville; a sister, Connie C. Turner of Chatham; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Davis. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
