Charles "Bill" Hinton Jr.
COLONIAL HEIGHTS - Charles W. "Bill" Hinton Jr., 64, died Friday, April 25, 1997, in Columbia John Randolph Medical Center of Hopewell.
Born in Newport News, he was a son of Charles W. Hinton Sr. and Edna Hager Hinton.
He was married
to Beverly B. Hinton, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by C&P Telephone Co. for 36 years.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Hopewell Moose and the Colonial Heights American Legion for over 30 years. He also a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Petersburg, where he was president of the church council for many years, chaired the evangelism committee, and was on the board of directors.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Charles W. Hinton III of Colonial Heights; a daughter, Dana Hinton Fountain of Glen Allen; a daughter, Cathie D. "Quick" Steinberg of Richmond; a brother, Carlos E. Swicegood Jr. of Danville; a sister, Hazel S. Owen of Richmond; and two grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Petersburg by the Rev. James Brady.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home in Colonial Heights.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Schoolfield cemetery in Danville.

Joe Hodnett
STUART - Joe Thompson Hodnett, 77, of Route 2, died Friday, April 25, 1997, in R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
Born July 27, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of George Washington Hodnett and Addie Roberson Hodnett.
He was married
to Lourine Lawless Hodnett, who survives.
He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by J.P. Stevens Elastic Plant.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Larry J. Hodnett of South Boston and Stoneman E. Hodnett of Danville; a daughter, Sophia H. Durham of Ferrum; a sister, Mary Coble of Tucson, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Irene Thomas, and two brothers, Dameron Hodnett and Lewis Hodnett.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Sycamore Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Melton and the Rev. Jim Churchwell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
Dennis Reynolds
RUSTBURG - Dennis Garland Reynolds, 79, 384 Sunnymeade Road, died Friday, April 25, 1997, in his residence.
Born May 5, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Claude D. and Ruth Lovelace Reynolds.
He was married
to Janie Dalton Reynolds, who survives.
He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II with 21 years of service.
In addition to his wife, survivors include six stepchildren; a brother, Harry Lee Reynolds Sr. of Chatham; a sister, Lillian R. Blanks of Danville; and nine stepgrandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Garnett H. Reynolds and R. Dudley Reynolds, and a sister, Louise R. Adams.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Finch & Finch Chapel in Altavista by the Rev. Rick Wilkie. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery, where military honors will be given by Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Jenero Marlowe
CALLANDS - Jenero Robertson Marlowe, 621 Deer Haven Drive, died Saturday, April 26, 197, at her home.
Born March 30, 1927, in Henry County, she was the daughter of Clarence Edison Robertson and Dessie Pratt Robertson.
She was a member of County Line Christian Church.
She was predeceased by one son, C. Wayne Marlowe.
She was married
to Samuel C. "Sammie" Marlowe, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include one daughter, Irene M. Tarburton of Bel Alton, Md.; two sons, Charles E. Marlowe and Gerald R. Marlowe, both of Callands; three brothers, Fred E. Robertson of Collinsville, Lewis E. Robertson of Reidsville, N.C. and Carroll E. Robertson of Danville; two sisters, Madge R. Adkins of Callands and Nancy R. Burnett if Richmond; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from County Line Christian Church by the Minister Dean Ashby, Minister Craig Hagen and Minister J.D. Hunt III. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

"Bill" McDaniel
John William McDaniel, 74, of 913 Westover Drive, died Saturday, April 26, 1997 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a two month decline in his health.
Born Sept. 27, 1922, in Stuart, he was the son of Austin McDaniel and Rosa Lawson McDaniel.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sudie Adkins Myers McDaniel, who died Oct. 9, 1988.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He had spent most of his life on Westover Drive. He worked for many years at Riverside Roof & Truss Inc., before retiring.
He was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, David Lee McDaniel of Collinsville; three stepdaughters, Juanita Barker of Danville, Pauline Barker of Greensboro, N.C. and Viola Loguna of California; two stepsons, Robert Myers of Florida and Shirley "Pete" Myers; four sisters, Zettie Colvard and Pearlie Lane, both of Danville, Bertha Turner of South Carolina and Pauline Slade of Florida; two brothers, Preston McDaniel of Wood River, Ill. and Gilmer McDaniel of Danville; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens by the Rev. Kenneth D. Hall.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-9 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Pearlie Lane, 921 Westover Drive.
Billie Murphy
Billie Jean Murphy, 69, of 151 Hartford St., died Saturday, April 26, 1997 at the Stratford Health Care Center. She had been in declining health since February 1996.
Born June 8, 1927, in Danville, she was the daughter of Percy Vaughan and Ruby Rutledge Vaughan.
She was married
to Vernon Murphy, who survives.
She spent all of her life in Danville where she worked in sales at Sears Roebuck and Co. and at Schewels Furniture Co. She had also worked for Dan River Inc. in quality control.
She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church where she was the church clerk and a member of the ABWA and BPW.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Keith Murphy of Baltimore, Md. and Garry Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandsons.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Michael Campbell. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Percy Parker
Percy Parker Sr., of Danville, died Friday, April 25, 1997 at his home.
Born Aug. 19, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Parker.
He as educated in the Pittsylvania County Public Schools. He was a member of Bibleway Worldwide Church.
He was a former Southern Railroad employee. He retired from Lorillard Tobacco Co.
He was married
to Margaret Parker, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Percy Parker Jr. of Danville; one daughter, Essie F. Caniely of Chesapeake; one brother, James R. Parker of Danville; and seven grandchildren.
Earl Roberts
RICHMOND - Earl H. Roberts, 58, of Chesterfield County, died Saturday, April 26, 1997, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals.
A native of Halifax County, he was the son of Irvin Homer and Beatrice Compton Roberts.
He was married
to Virginia Diane Roberts, who predeceased him.
He served in the Navy, and was a retired mechanical supervisor with Philip Morris.
He was a member of the Arabian Horse Association.
Survivors include a son, Mark D. Roberts of Chesterfield; a daughter, Robin R. Newton of Chesterfield; a brother, Donald G. Roberts of Richmond; two sisters, Doris R. Gentry of South Boston and Nancy R. Meeler of Ringgold; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. Interment
will be in Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield County.

Clarine Scruggs
Clarine Scruggs, 47, of 260 Eastwood Drive, Lot. No. 9, died Friday, April 25, 1997, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. She had been in declining health for eight months.
Born May 2, 1949, in Danville, she was the daughter of William Bradner Sr. and Aurelle Davis Pruitt.
She was manager of West Main Amoco and Colonial Mart convenience stores until her health failed.
She was a member of St. Mark's Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was married
to James F. Scruggs, who predeceased her.
Survivors include two sons, Chuck Vipperman and Kenny Vipperman, both of Danville; one daughter, Lisa E. Murphy of Danville; two sisters, Julia B. Hayes of Danville and Molly B. Gilbert of Dry Fork; three brothers, Hylton Leftwick of Fayetteville, N.C., William S. Bradner Jr. of Blairs and Clinton M. Bradner of Goldsboro, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Henry W. Taylor and the Rev. Hylton Lawrence. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
