Kristin Blake White, infant, of 2680 Kerns Church Road, died April 25, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 25, 1997, in Danville, she was a daughter of Sherman L. White and Shannon Owens White.
In addition to her mother and father, survivors include her paternal grandfather, Jesse Carroll White of Sutherlin; paternal grandmother, Linda White of Sutherlin; maternal grandmother, Cindy Owens of Ringgold; maternal grandfather, Mike Owens; maternal grandmother Vicki Ellis of Ringgold; maternal stepgrandfather, Mark Ellis of Ringgold.
A private funeral will be held for the immediate family by the Rev. Billy Cook.

Delvis Ayers
Delvis Walker Ayers, 74, of 1644 Mill Creek Road, died Saturday morning, April 26, 1997, at his home.
Born Aug. 17, 1922, in Meadows of Dan, he was a son of Thomas Walker Ayers and Bessie Goad Ayers.
He was married
to Mary Johnston Ayers, who survives.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He spent the last 30 years in the Danville area, where he worked as a mechanic for Dan River Inc. He retired at age 62 after 25 years of service.
He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Linda Ayers and Kathryn Ayers both of Danville; Vickie Alexander of Harrisburg, N.C.; three sisters, Rosetta Sutphin of Maryland and Sena Hodges of Collinsville, and Macie Ellington of Danville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a brother, Melvin Ayers.
The graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Garland Walker and Rev. Asa Allen.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Shirley Carter
MARTINSVILLE - Shirley Mease Carter, 59, of 602 West St., died Friday, April 25, 1997, at her home.
Born June 11, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Booker D. and Mae Davis Mease.
She was first married
to Silas Fuller and later was married
to Reid Carter, who is predeceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of Watson Level Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Silas Fuller Jr. of Pasadena, Calif., Raymond Fuller of Chicago and Ricky Carter; two sisters, Dale Penn of Martinsville and Mary J. Mahan of East Orange, N.J.; and two brothers, Alpha Davis of Axton and Gerald Davis of Martinsville.
The funeral will be conducted noon Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. B.I. Baize. Burial will be in Mease cemetery in Sandy Level.

Mamie Fitzgerald
Mamie H. Fitzgerald, 91, 1821 Mill Creek Road, died Saturday, April 26, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 31, 1906, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of Peter and Pollie Barnett.
She was married
to Otress Fitzgerald, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Everlina P. Broadnax of Danville; six grandchildren, including Cutris Jacobs, Sylvia "Ted" Wimbush and Sylvester "Jake" Jacobs, all of Danville, and Cynthia Davis of Blairs; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday from Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Anthony Noble.
The family will receive friends at the residence of a grandson, Sylvester Jacobs, 1620 Old Hunting Trail, Danville.

Stanley Hall
Stanley Hall, 74, 222 Westview Drive, died Monday, April 28, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 10, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James Edward Hall and Ada Farthing Hall.
In 1948, he was married
to Anita Powell Hall, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Danville Public Works Department for 20 years.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sisters, Doris Brown and Lema Hudgins, both of Danville; and a stepbrother, Ellis Ferrell of Danville.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Townes Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of Doris Brown, 312 Jennette Drive, Danville.

Robert Chandler
HALIFAX - Elder Robert H. Chandler, 68, 1015 Pine Trail, died Friday, April 25, 1997, in his residence.
Born June 27, 1928, in Halifax County, he was a son of Willie S. and Martha H. Chandler.
He was married
to Mable C. Chandler, who survives.
He was of the Holiness faith and a retired construction worker.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Louis D. Chandler of Halifax and Robert H. Chandler Jr. of Temple Hills, Md.; three daughters, Martha M. Majors of the residence, Cynthia C. Woody and Nortonia Renee Sydnor, both of Irmo, S.C.; two brothers, Willie S. Chandler of Baltimore and Bryant Lee Dunkley of Nathalie; five sisters, Pearl Woods, Dollie Hines and Ella B. Dunkley, all of Albany, N.Y., Lucy Gallimore of Halifax and Georgia Owens of Richmond; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Thursday from Crawford-Garrett-Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Halifax by the Rev. Andrew Powell. Burial will be in Chandler family cemetery.

Hollis Self
CHATHAM - Hollis Dunn Self, 77, 3017 Callands Road, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 21, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Russell C. Dunn and Ruth Fox Dunn.
She was married
to Thomas William Self Jr., who predeceased her.
She was a member of Chatham Presbyterian Church.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as secretary to the Circuit Court Judge of Pittsylvania County.
She is survived by two daughters, Gwynn Self Flanagan of Wilmington, N.C., and Jo Ann Self Dibbs of Miami; a son, Thomas William Self III of Chatham; a brother, Russell C. Dunn Jr. of Martinez, Ga.; two grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Billie Dunn Kramer.

John Ashby
John Mark Ashby, 31, 1206 Riverside Drive, Tuscaloosa, Ala., died Monday, April 28, 1997, in his residence.
Born Dec. 18, 1965, in Wilson, N.C., he was a son of Leonard Lee Ashby and Janice Marie Lewis Ashby, who survive.
He was a student at the University of Alabama and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his father of Chocowinity, N.C., and his mother of Schroon Lake, N.Y., he is survived by three brothers, Stephen L. Ashby of New York, Edward L. Ashby of Birmingham, Ala., and Preston T. Ashby of Washington, N.C.; and a sister, Kimberly Sue Ashby of Keeseville, N.Y.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mike Gladson. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.

Charles Boothe
NATHALIE - Charles Edward Boothe, 65, 3071 Mulberry Road, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997.
Born June 27, 1931, in Halifax County, he was a son of William Jefferson Boothe and Mollie Compton Boothe.
He was a farmer.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie J. Boothe and Mark A. Boothe, both of Nathalie; a brother, Jeff Johnson Boothe of Nathalie; and a sister, Juanita Mann of Appomattox.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Colbert-Moran Funeral Home Chapel in Gretna by the Rev. A.A. Blanks. Burial will be in Mulberry Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his son, Charlie J. Boothe, 3020 Mulberry Road, Nathalie.
James Carter
COLUMBUS, Ohio - James Carter, 65, died Friday, April 25, 1997, in Minerva Park Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 23, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Edward and Nellie Bradner Carter.
He was married
to Ethel Carter, who survives.
In addition to his wife, of New York, survivors include a son, James Carter Jr. of Danville, Va.; a daughter, Connie Brown of New York; two sisters, Betty Swann of Danville and Frances Crowley of Columbus; and a brother, Eugene Carter of Columbus.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday from Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
