Patricia Arnold
Patricia Robinette Arnold, 55, 549 Parker Road, died Sunday evening, May 4, 1997, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., after a two-year decline in health.
Born June 26, 1941, in Danville, she was the daughter of Jessie Robinette and Carolyn Henley Robinette.
She was married
to Garnett "Leon" Arnold, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she worked in the sewing room at Dan River Inc. She had also worked at Corning Inc. for 16 years.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include three sons, Wesley Worley, Timothy Arnold and Duane Arnold, all of Danville; and two brothers, Gene B. Robinette of Richmond and Billy W. Robinette of Danville; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Samuel L. Greeson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 Wednesday night at the funeral home, and other times will be at the residence.
Zomaja Bennett
MARTINSVILLE - Zomaja Ralissa (Mimi) Bennett, 2, 912 Bethel Lane, died Monday, May 5, 1997, at her home.
Born Aug. 17, 1994, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Quinton Hubbard of Altavista and Tanya Bennett Randall of Newport News.
Survivors include a sister, Essence Randall of Newport News; and grandparents, Bishop Raymond and LaVerne Bennett of Martinsville, and Carroll and Betty Hunt of Altavista.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Greater Cannan Land Church, Gretna, by Elder Lorenzo Hall. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Garden.
The family will be at the home of Bishop and Sister Raymond Bennett, 912 Bethel Lane, Martinsville.

Lucy Brammer
MARTINSVILLE - Lucy May Brammer, 95, of Kings Grant Retirement Center, formerly of Bassett, died Sunday, May 4, 1997, at Martinsville Memorial Hospital.
Born July 30, 1901, in Patrick County, she was the daughter of Booker Dalton and Lilla Shockley Dalton.
She was married
to Noah G. Brammer, who died in 1980.
She was a member of Riverview Primitive Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Bassett Garden Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Thelma Meadors of Danville; a son, John Lee Brammer of Quinton; a sister, Margaret Dalton Rodgers of Stuart; a brother, Booker H. Dalton Sr. of Bassett; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Brammer, and seven brothers.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Collins Funeral Chapel by Elder Carl Terry, the Rev. Jack Heinsohn and the Rev. Suzanne Martin. Entombment will be in Roselawn Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 tonight at Collins Chapel and other times will be at the home of Pat Brammer, Cambridge Road, Bassett.
Curtis Cousin
AXTON - Curtis Randolph Cousin, 58, 1624 Riley Farm Road, died Monday, May 5, 1997, at Avante Nursing Center in Waynesboro. He had lived at the nursing home for seven months.
Born May 17, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Jacob Cousin and Burlie Carter Cousin.
He had worked at Martinsville Novelty.
Survivors include two sisters, Kittie C. Martin and Geneva Foster, both of Axton; three brothers, Hunter B. Cousin and George L. Cousin, both of Axton, and Walter M. Cousin of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at New Design Baptist Church, Axton, by the Rev. Dwight N. Mack. Burial will be in Cousin Family cemetery, Axton.
The family will be at the home on Riley Farm Road.

Leroy Johnson
Leroy Johnson, 75, 434 Holbrook St., died Friday, May 2, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born June 1, 1921, in Yonkers, Ga., he was a son of Ollie and Nettie Whipple Johnson.
He was married
to Eula Mae Johnson, who survives.
He was retired from Dan River Inc., and was a member of NAACP.
He was chairman of the deacon board at Loyal Baptist Church; president of Smith River Sunday School Convention; past president of Deacon's Union of Danville and Vicinity; Chaplain of Danville-Pittsylvania County Sickle Cell Anemia Association; past president of Smith River Convention; a teacher of Matoka Bible Class and a past board member of God's Storehouse.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence include two sons, Roy Lee Johnson of Washington, D.C., and Roger Johnson of Upper Marlboro, Md.; two daughters, LaTashia Johnson of Danville and Louise Beck of Eastman, Ga.; a brother, Willie Johnson of Eastman, Ga.; two sisters, Cleola Rozier of Chester, Ga., and Leola Gainey of Hawkins, Ga.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Lovelle A. Maxwell Jr. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 Wednesday night at Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel, and other times will be at the residence.
Robert Luck
Robert Taze Luck, 83, of 460 Parker Road, died Tuesday, May 6, 1997, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 14, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Paul and Mattie Keesee Luck.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Luck was retired from the U.S. Postal System in New York.
He was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church.
Luck was married
to Ruth Luck, who predeceased him.
Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Logan of Chatham; one sister, Minnie Luck of Danville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. G.H. Pass. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Madeline "Cindy" Luck at 1205 Washington St., and Virginia Logan at 1461 Moses Mill Road in Chatham.
Joel Marable
HALIFAX - Joel Marable, 76, of 14066 River Road, died May 6, 1997.
Born Feb. 9, 1921, in Halifax County, he was a son of Alger and Mary Queen Kirby Marable.
Educated in Halifax County schools, Marable graduated from Halifax Training School. After serving in the U.S. Army, he attended Virginia State College, where he majored in agriculture.
Many of his working years were spent at the Danville Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plant.
He was a member of New Arbor Baptist Church and Sunday school.
On Jan. 1, 1947, he was married
to Retha Tucker Marable .
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Anna M. Gee of Richmond, Queen M. Bass of Durham, N.C., and Aretha M. Cunningham of Alexandria; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Anna L. Robinson of Guttenburg, N.J., and Melissa C. Lewis of Albany, N.Y.; and one brother, E. Dewy Kirby of Detriot, Mich.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at New Arbor Baptist Church by the Dr. Lewis Motley. Burial will be in the family cemetery. Remains may be viewed 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home chapel in Halifax. Remains will lie in state at the church one hour before the service.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Rebecca Radford
Rebecca Norma Gholson Radford, 71, of 130 Brush Arbor Court, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Riverside Health Care Center. She had been in declining health for a year.
Born June 20, 1925, in Keeling, she was a daughter of John Gholson and Sarah Gholson.
She had lived in the Danville area for the past 20 years, and prior to that lived in the Tidewater area for 25 years.
Radford was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, David Nathaniel Radford of the residence; a son, Jerry Radford of the residence; and two adopted sons, Wayne Hodges and Kenneth Hodges, both of Chesapeake.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the Mausoleum Chapel at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Duane Blevins. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Gilmer Shelton
CHATHAM - Gilmer "Buck" Shelton, 78, of 1277 Old Mine Road, died Wednesday in the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke.
Born Jan. 10, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Richard Clark Shelton and Pearl Shelton Shelton.
A member of Payneton United Methodist Church, he was retired as an automobile mechanic from Hunt Chevrolet. Shelton served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Reynolds during World War II. He received the European-African Medal with Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the American Medal and the Victory Medal.
He was the husband of Hilda Spencer Shelton, who predeceased him.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Shelton of Chatham; a niece, Hildred Shelton of Danville; a nephew, John Wayne Shelton of Gretna..
He was predeceased by a sister, Bessie Shelton, and by three brothers, Louie Shelton, Willie Shelton and John Shelton.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Payneton United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Martin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1277 Old Mine Road.
